The old Man Utd Thread

Been pretty terrible so far but at least it can't get much worse. There is space in behind their midfield but we just aren't exploiting it properly.

I'd have Scholes off for Obertan, put him on the left with Evra dropping into defense and Fletcher into midfield.

Despite conceding 3, Kuszczak has been far and away our best player today.

Now thats depressing.

Thats exactly what I said to my brother. The only Utd player today that came away with a semblance of respect. From the outset the formation Fergie chose was wrong and to include Owen away to Fulham is a decision I cannot understand. I dont see why Utd played 4-5-1 against Villa at home and chose to play 3-5-2 away to an inform Fulham team. The decision not to make changes at half time was ridiculous as well, proven by the goal conceded shortly after.

Bringing Welbeck on for Owen was the icing on a day of terrible decisions by Ferguson. Now Im not rubbishing him or saying he's lost it or anything stupid but he managed todays game like a novice and he should be first in line for the hair dryer treatment.

I'm not going to say he's lost it but right now I just don't see what his overall plan is. Given all the defensive problems we've had recently I'm not going to look that much into today's game; he made a hash of it but our defence was always likely to struggle. But this season as a whole, and for much of last season, you can't help but feel like he's picking player names out of a hat. What's going on with Berbatov? Is he ever actually going to stay in the team for more than a game or two at a time? For someone who cost over 30 million it almost seems like Ferguson can't be arsed with him anymore, dropping him for games all the time and limiting the potential for him and Rooney to gel. Does he have any idea what midfield we should be playing because I sure as hell don't know what midfield will turn up from one game to the next. Despite his hat-trick the other week, is Owen really good enough for a team like United at this point in his career. Does he contribute much bar the odd goal? His finishing this season has generally been far from impressive. How much longer can we look to an ageing 36 year old for inspiration in attack?

People used to slag Benitez off no-end for his rotation but Fergie is just as bad right now and nobody's saying a word. He clearly doesn't know what our best team is or who our best players are. Probably the only guaranteed starters nowadays are Evra, Rooney, Vidic, and to an extent Valencia. Honestly, I don't feel Fergie quite knows where we are or where we're going right now.

Five defeats this early is depressing - and would be ominous in any other season - but there's still hope. We're in second place and after Chelsea have played we'll be six points behind the leaders at worst. Given the defensive injuries, and remembering that January won't do Chelsea any favours, I won't cry just yet. But I'm not going to be able to watch MOTD tonight either.

Unless of course you believe the papers.
