The old Man Utd Thread

Ferguson says the money is there but isn't going to spend massive amounts of money in big name players. Even without the massive debt the club has I don't think it's a bad strategy as I fully expect UEFA to try and introduce regulations on spending at some point in the future. I genuinly think that in a few years some very big teams could be teetering on collapse after being left in the shit by bad owners.

What is slightly frustrating about it is that by not getting any 'big' players it suggests the players we have bought aren't good enough. Our summer signings have done really well, i'm not sure we could have got a better winger than Valencia for the same price and Obertan is looking like an absolute steal. Owen may not be scoring with the regularity some expected but his performances have been at least the equal of Tevez's last season and look how much he will cost City! Our youth team is as strong as it has ever been too, something else that has been influenced by FA rules and financial forces.

Who knows, may be able to get Benzema on the cheap at the end of the seasons the way his RM career is going!

Has anyone seen clips of that Pogba yet? Just saw the highlights of him in the youth cup and the kid is fucking huge for a 16 year old. Looks decent too.

Even if your first XI will always mostly be assembled from transfers (realistically at a big club this will always be the case), just getting one player through who's good enough through will save you so much money. Obviously if you do buy talent in, you want to get them in well before their prime. It's actually policy now to not make big signings of players who are 25-27, as you can't bet on them being a success or wanting to stay forever, and in a few years you'll lose money on them. We have big reserves of young players, both local and scouted, if they don't make the grade for us then they're in demand elsewhere. Either way, it pays for itself, so why not make it the best it can be.

City, Real Madrid and Chelsea can of course buy the finished article, but any other club with ambition needs a good academy, or they risk financial ruin.

I think Rooney has been quite good actually despite his dive, but you can see him getting frustrated. And frustrated Rooney on a yellow is not the best combo. Hopefully SAF will calm him down then wind him up properly for the 2nd 45.

Do continue.

Lol.OK

He was a United fan. One who followed the clubs results and went to the very occasional game. He watched all the televised games also.

Rewind a few years and the Glasiers are taking over. He along with another friend of mine swore that they no longer supported United as a protest of the Glasiers and what they stood for. There was a huge groundswell of opinion at the time (see redissue/fredtissue) and FCUM was formed.

Both then started following FCUM.

They still continued to watch united games on TV. Both still use the term 'we' when talking about united. When challenged about wether they still support united, both admit they do and deny ever saying that they didn't.

I couldn't care less that they support united or FCUM. What I find ridiculous is the total u-turn and denial. I tease him face to face about this on a fairly regular basis and he loves the thrill of the barny!! Love you Man!

I don't think i've ever seen Rooney manage to fuck up so many corners/shots/passes as that. That Friedal barely had to make a save, if any at all, is pretty telling. It does make you think how long we can continue to play without a centre forward who can actually score with some consistency.
