The old Man Utd Thread

This seriously has come out of nowhere. We had a long term injury with Ferdinand, plus Neville and Brown usually can't play more than a few game before meeting their demise, but all our cover is injured too! You expect an injury crisis this deep to seemingly build and build, but we looked fine as little as a week ago.

Cathcart went off injured for Watford  Also worth mentioning that Chester had to come back form his loan spell with an injury a month or so ago. It's so bad it's funny.

Cleverley had a really good game for Watford tonight, one assist and one goal. Looks a class above the players around him so will be interesting to see how he goes when back at United.

I'm actually finding this whole injury saga hilarious and exciting to witness. It's like, who's next?! SAF has even thrown in David Gill's son into the squad for tonight.

I'm sure I'll feel like shit once it starts affecting results though.

I'm quite looking forward to tonights game in a strange way. There will be no point in us trying to defend so we may as well attack with the extra passing quality we will have from the back. Wolfsburg's defense is nothing special either, they have the third worst defense in the Bundesliga and only have a GD of +2 despite scoring ~30 goals.

Come on then, wimps. Any other time you'd have people guessing what formation you'd be playing by now. Get it done!

My guess, based on very little:

----------------Kuszczak

Park - Carrick - Gill - Evra

-------------------Fletcher-

Valencia-Scholes-Gibson-Obertan

------------------Wellbeck

Park being there is kinda a left over from a previous formation attempt (three at the back, with 2 wing-backs - didn't really work). But I decided he might be quite good there, and Fletcher could then play where he is best.

What would be the point of having Evra in central defence? Much better to have him making absolutely sure that nothing comes his side, let the 'centre backs' concentrate on what they need to do.

Our best stand-in at central defence would be Rooney probably, but even he's not fit. I'm coming around to the idea of Fletch in the centre, he'd probably be pretty good at cutting out crosses. Anyway, there's a good chance our team will be a bit of a mess, all midfield and nothing else. Well, as long as we keep it together for 90 minutes, that shouldn't matter.

I think it will be something like that although we could see Gibson drop in alonsgide Carrick and Norwood come into midfield. I don't think we'll see Valencia play as we'll need him fully ready at the weekend. Park is a definite starter so that leaves the last wide position and Welbeck is the lesser of 3 evils when it comes to defensive abilty. I could easily see Obertan playing out there instead though so who knows. We could play a 4-5-3 instead with Carrick/Gibson and Gill athe back with Evra and Fletcher as wing backs with Scholes/Anderson/Park/Welbeck and Owen in front of them.
