The old Man Utd Thread

I thought Anderson got into a couple of decent attacking positions and would have been in on goal if a pass was either forthcoming from Rooney (rather than dawdling on the ball, having his shot blocked quite easily and the attack breaking down) or if the final pass had been better from Giggs in one or two instances.

It seems to be his positioning and awareness, he actually made a couple of great passes but he was never in the right place at the right time.

He was in the right place at the right time a few times, but as Zappster said, the ball wasn't played through to him.

I don't understand the Anderson hate. He did absolutely fuck all wrong today. He harried and passed well and found himself in good positions. He was good today as were most of our players. Fergie said it right, we were the better team, but if you can't score from the dominance we had then its our own fault.

We deserved to win on the performance, never mind draw, but we didn't score. We never got any decisions today. Valencia dragged down in the box by the most overrated player in the world. Rooney a mile onside. Free kick for Flethcher's clean tackle before the goal. Drogba maybe offside for the goal. There were definitely more but we should look on this game a realise we are not out of it. We have an expansive squad and it should prove beneficial when it comes down to the wire.

Anderson was (doing a very good job of) man marking Essien for large parts of the match so couldn't get forward as much as he maybe wanted. It didn't help that the passes to him in dangerous areas were either terrible or non-existant.

Evans was brilliant today and capped it off by doing what every defender in the world wishes they could get away with. In all fairness to Drogba he spent (comparitively) little time on the deck today. Like Bowser I think he should be one of our fist choice centre backs until Ferdinand sorts himself out and can prove he isn't lame.

Fletcher was the best player on the pitch today. It felt like he covered more ground than Deco, Lampard and Ballack combined. I think VDS might have covered more ground than Deco mind.

Only United player who disappointed me today was Giggs, his passing was poor and he struggled to get beyond Ivanovic. Obertan again showed a few nice touches when bought on (last corner aside) and it really can't be long before we see him starting games.

I'd definitely be having over Nani anyway. Whether he can sustain over 90 minutes remains to be seen though, so I guess SAF is just impacting him atm.

Does anyone have a clip of a gif of the Evans assault on Drogba. Did anyone else notice the kick on the way down? It was like a 2-hit combo! if it were a cup game, surely that would have been worth an away goal.

I didn't see the two hit combo!

fimage1.gif

Initially he's just jumping for the ball but then definitely extends his foot towards Drogba. Luckily that was the same linesman that denied us the penalty and offside so is clearly fucking blind otherwise that is straight up red card. Did anyone see Vidic laughing at it as well?

EDIT: That is seriously mesmorising.

I'll never tire of watching that and Vidic's response was quality.

Um, not to rain on the lulz or anything, but surely he could cop a ban for that? If it wasn't spotted by the officials then they can take action retrospectively.

It was spotted by the ref though, right? After all, he gave Drogba a yellow.

The more you watch it the more it looks like Evans is doing some kind of matrix shit.

EDIT : It just keeps giving. Even after Drogba gets kicked in the chest he still brings his heels up to 'dive'.

He even manages to cross them before he hits the floor.

The best bit though was when he was lying on the floor pretending to be getting hits from a defibrillator, his legs spasming and everything. We need a gif of that.

Bolton had them.

It just strikes me as odd that Manchester United and Liverpool would refuse to make such a simple gesture. Especially considering that Manchester United were willing to change their entire kit to mark the Munich air crash last year and that Liverpool will wear a black armband for anything (what's the difference between a cow and a crisis? A scouser doesnt know how to milk a cow.)

I just wondered why Man Utd refused to wear them. Fergie was wearing one on his coat.

It's been covered fairly extensively in the news. The spokesperson said that they're officials wear them, they work with war charities all year around and so they feel that it's not required for them to put a poppy on their shirt. I agree with them - and John Snow, who has commented on how it's a kind of 'poppy fascism' to demand that everybody in the public eye wears one. A poppy would totally clash with Utd and Liverpool's shirt, btw

Btw, I loved the little scraps towards the end of the game

Well I thought yesterdays game was far far better than the Liverpool match. We looked like a team with a plan and it was definitely working, there's no question that we should have got an early penalty when Terry tackled Valencia to the ground, but that might have actually sparked Chelsea into waking up and actually playing so who knows how it would have turned out?

Really soft free kick to be given that lead to the goal, though I am not sure Drogba was offside anyway Wes Brown seemed to be playing him on - although it was Drogba who pulled him to the ground in the first place. Despite tumbling far too easily looking for a free kick against Drogba for the goal I was largely impressed with Evans and Brown, they seemed a far better and more coherent pair than they did in the week. Loads of positives from the game really and I think we have a good shout against Chelsea and Liverpool when they do come to Old Trafford.
