The old Man Utd Thread

Decent first half performance dodgy offside and penalty calls aside. I think when Ancelotti was talking about replicating Liverpool's pressing of our midfield he forget just how old his team is.

Anderson has done an excellent job on Essien and Deco has been completely anonymous. They've been clever attacking down our right though, everything decent they have done has come from there. Only dissapointment has been Giggs really. Interesting that Nani isn't even on the bench and Obertan is. Could definitely be a good impact player if we need him.

I didn't know that Drogba has never scored against is in the league, although there is a first time for everything I suppose.

I'd say we're looking a fair bit better than Chelsea overall, although we don't look like scoring. I suppose flooding the midfield has left our attacking options lacking a bit.

I still feel Chelsea could nick it, because they certainly look far more threatening when they're through on goal and all it'll take is for them to get through our midfield a few more times.

I didn't think it was boring though, just a bit lacking in the final thirds.

Yet when anyone else in the league says it about your lot...

What about it? If we deserve decisions I'm all for it, if we don't I generally agree.

I'm talking about today anyway. About five minutes after I posted that Chelsea got a bullshit free kick and managed to score. They definitely didn't deserve to win today and the poor ref decisions put it in their hands, you can't argue about that.

The ref was terrible for both teams, lots of little niggles given some times and not others, especially with forwards backing into defenders. And if Valencia wasnt an emotionless robot he should have been raging about his yellow card for his "foul" on Fwank.

Obertan was good again today when he came on, and Valencia was very good again. They all played well to be fair, although not sure why Giggs decided to go for the dodgy pass rather than shooting on the odd occasion or 3.

Rarely have I come away from a defeat feeling so positive. After all, we rarely dominate Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for 90 minutes. The ref got two key decisions wrong that favoured the home side, but refs have a habit of doing that. You always have to accept that you're not only playing against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, so credit to them, they and the ref won within the spirit of the game as we know it today.

The ref was pretty terrible today but it wasn't all in Chelseas favour. For instance Evans should have been sent off for kicking Drogba in the chest.

Drogba ran into Evans, was a yellow at worst. 50/50 ball and Evans jumped for it, Dorgba made no attempt to get up and ran into his foot.

Ran into his foot. :(

He was very lucky to get away with it. Then chopping down Carvalho he was lucky to be on the pitch at the end.

Its been a shocking game with the only good bit being when Drogba get booked for being kicked in the chest.

Oh how I laughed.

and laughed and laughed. That was the highlight of the game for me, almost worth the 3 points.

I didn't think we were shocking, before the game I thought we would get annihilated, but overall I felt we were as good as Chelsea, which given they were at home we can walk away proudly.

I feel annoyed, it was the result I was expecting, but we were largely the better team and the goal was contentious.

I thought Giggs and Anderson were poor. Evra was amazing going forward but I felt he was leaving massive gaps at the back. The two centre backs did brilliantly.

I only wish Fergie had put Owen and Obertan on a little earlier, just to shift the dynamic a little.

Fletcher was our best player today, as he has been a lot this season. I am not sure how I feel about this. I am proud of the guy, but then on the other hand if he's the best we have offer....

Exactamondo.

I posted loads of stuff about the midfield and how we would get over run, would be happy with a draw.

Totally, and utterly wrong, lads did great and the club proud. I'm not convinced by Anderson and don't feel he brings either an attacking or defensive options, but ah well.

Banged on about Jonny Evans for ages... I honesty think he should be first choice and the other two can fight amongst themselves to who partners him.

Very little point in talking about their goal and the numerous reasons why it never should have been, or the thousand other things like the penalty, Rooney being clear through and incorrectly flagged offside or the extra time.

Two things that did make me very, very angry today though. Joe Cole raking his studs down the back of Fletchs leg was naughty. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but at the time I wondered if it was a deliberate thing what with the world knowing his ankle is one tackle from being screwed. Flecth was incredibly unhappy with it, wonder if he felt the same too. Noticed loads of that from both teams actually, snidely hitting the guy when the ball had been moved on.

Captain Lionheart going down holding his head after he elbowed Valencia was as funny as it was cowardly and snide... though Drogbas epileptic fit and wheezing suddenly stopping when he got booked was amusing.

Seen the fixture list? Next 10 or 11 games are ones you'd class as winnable, actually nailed on in the most cases. Fulham away, Hammers away are always hard, Villa at home we have a superb record against but they're not bad. But, yeah, win 10 of the 11 and you're into the start of February and I'm thinking we'll be top of the league should it go that way.

Next game after that cluster is... Arsenal away. Chelsea are away to Ciddy and Arse in the next two or three too.

I thought Anderson got into a couple of decent attacking positions and would have been in on goal if a pass was either forthcoming from Rooney (rather than dawdling on the ball, having his shot blocked quite easily and the attack breaking down) or if the final pass had been better from Giggs in one or two instances.
