The old Man Utd Thread

Does your uncle regularly see the top doctors in the world about his injuries then?

Obviously not, however the top doctors in the world aren't God! There is no cure for tendonitis, that is a fact, all they can do is give you steroid injections and operations to try to slow the rate of deterioration. The deterioration will still carry on, even if you are resting it as much as you can.

If we're basing stuff on purely anecdotal evidence, I had tendinitis in my elbow and shoulder quite badly a few years ago. I don't have any problems with it now despite doing the same amount of exercise as before.

Yep, it's a blessing in disguise I reckon. Neville's looked dodgy the last few games, Ferdinand also and Vidic appears to have decided he's playing Rugby Union from the way he's been tackling this season...

I wonder what midfield combination Fergie will come up with for this game.... Remember the good old days when the midfield would pick itself with Keane, Scholes, Beckham and Giggs? I wish we had a bit more consistency there.

Personally I don't think its a blessing missing our two strongest centre halfs. I'm sure Evans and Brown/O'Shea can come in and do a job but I'd still rather have Ferdinand and Vidic at the heart of our defence.

I'm hoping for Valencia, Nani, Anderson and Carrick to start in the midfield for us seeing as Fletcher is injured still at the moment otherwise he'd be in there with Anderson.

It always feels pointless me trying to second guess a starting lineup, Sir Alex tends to throw in a surprise or two every game.

Can't really see it mattering too much against Blackburn, Evans and Brown/O'Shea are more than capable of covering.

I'd quite like to see Tosic on the bench though. He scored a free kick for the reserves last night, sent another shot from outside the box a foot wide and looked dangerous for the half hour he was on the pitch. Might be nice to get another look at Obertan too.

Okay 'blessing in disguise' was probably the wrong term to use, but I think you could argue that Evans performances in the second half of last season (when Ferdinand missed a lot of games) and this season so far mean he's as strong as the other two. Especially going on some of their perfomances this season.

I worry about Ferdinand and how many games he can realistically play in a season these days, especially with international duties, and whether he can keep his form while missing all these games with niggling injuries. At the moment it doesn't appear that he can, and it's made more obvious because of us missing a defesive mid like Hargreaves or Fletcher to protect the back four.

^_^ That's what I thought. The BBC is pushing it as a 'defensive crisis'.

O'Shea - Brown - Evans - Evra

Rafael, Fabio (Subs)

What crisis?

Van der Sar

O'Shea - Brown - Evans - Evra

Valencia - Carrick - Anderson - Nani

Berbatov - Rooney

Subs: Kuszczak, Owen, Scholes, Fabio Da Silva, Fletcher, Obertan, De Laet.

So close!

Surprised Brown got the nod, I expected O'Shea to shift into the middle with one of the twins at right back. Carrick needs a good game today. Perfect opposition for him to dominate in midfield too. I'm not the only one more than disappointed with his performances lately.

The twins would get bullied by Blackburn too much though. I like the team, personally. Nice, competitive midfield (with the exception of Carrick who's been ineffective recently), and I'm going to enjoy watching Brown and Evans play together. If they impress, maybe they'll get a run of games?

It's a shame we sold Pique as him and Evans could have been a great pairing.

I think that is understatement of the week! I rate Evans as a far better defender but the combination of the two would be incredible.

Fairly good performance today, some nice work by Obertan when he came on too. Thought it was a decent performance by Carrick, his passing was far more dangerous that it has been in recent weeks. Beautiful goal by Berbatov ;)
