The old Man Utd Thread

Yeah, I'm sad for him too, but all the goals were easily as much the responsibility of the defenders in front of him to sort out before it got to that stage. Saying that, he should have done so much better getting Bellamy's feet on the 3rd goal and just should have booted it when Tevez came calling the 2nd time (both Tevez incidents came from back passes layed a bit short on a slow rolling pitch), maybe the reson he didn't boot it the 2nd time was because the rebound from the first could have gone anywhere.

I wish there wouldn't be this yo yo of opinion every time he makes a mistake/great save. This was probably the biggest game of his life so was understandably nervous, when it came down to it, he didn't have a lot to do the entire match, fewer opportunities to make a good impression and less to even out the bad. He been at the club a while and Fergie knows better than any of us how good he can be, hes hardly Massimo Taibi is he?

Foster is clearly to blame for the first goal man, it wasn't a bad back pass and he had plenty of time to make a decision, unfortunately he was trying to be clever for god knows what reason. He also seemed a little slow to get there.

He has made quite a number of mistakes now which is worrying. I've been avid defender of him previously but I'm even beginning to have serious doubts about him becoming the next number one for United. He's a fantastic shot stopper but you need much more than that when playing for a top side.

I'm still to be convinced he's got whats needed.

The yo-yo of opinion is because he's shown a complete lack of consistency in the games he's played so far. He doesn't seem to be settling down to me at all. You'd think the nerves would have passed now he's had a few games, but the mistake against Tevez yesterday was as bad as ever.

I'm still not believing he's ever going to be good enough to be our first choice keeper.

That's hilarious. If he plays he will get a very warm welcome, no doubt in my mind.

:(

It threatened to sour the game for me, how much shit we gave him. He even tried to clap his old fans as he came off for the second half, but the boos just got louder. Evra tried to come off the pitch with him, but Tevez pushed him off before they got to the tunnel, he knew what was coming. They were telling Fergie to sign him up for a year, so they should be angry at him; he knew what the terms were, and Tevez never gave even a slightly half-hearted performance for us. I wasn't surprised, but I was annoyed at how ungrateful our fans can be; he helped us win three trophies, and we call him a money-grabbing whore. I for one, clapped his name when it was announced. Even chanted Argentina a few times.

Brilliant fucking game of football though. Best game I have ever seen. Went with my dad, who wanted to leave four minutes before time, the berk. Just an incredible build up of tension and fear, and then a release once we scored. This was repeated on a seemingly endless cycle. There was the fiercest 'attack' chant you're ever likely to hear, when it seemed like we might draw to City, god forbid. If we hadn't given the ball away in some dangerous areas, and Given hadn't been at his best (poor Berba, could've got a hat-trick) it could've been a whitewash though. City broke well when we gifted them possession, but they couldn't work the ball up from their own half into theirs. Oh, and I thought the ball was only actually in play in extra time for about four minutes. It was genuine insanity when Owen scored, people just jumping around like madmen and hugging and shit. Felt so good.

I think it's still too early to judge Foster. I mean, Van Der Saar is hardly Mr Consistency at times is he? He seems to go through periods every single season where he looks a complete and utter liability and where I'm on pins every time the ball comes near him.

You probably managed to avoid all those tabloid interviews where he continually slagged off Sir Alex. It's quite simple, if you take on Sir Alex as a City player then you take on Old Trafford. Then you watch one of Sir Alex's free transfers score the winner and celebrate in your face just like you said you would do to Sir Alex if you scored.

Tevez would have been forgiven for joining City, offering as little threat to our ambitions as they do, but his incessant bitching and blaming others for his inability to score regularly got what it deserved yesterday. It was all a bit pantomime anyway and he'll probably be forgiven if he carries on in the manner he did on the pitch yesterday. At the other end of the scale, Ronaldo has quite possibly acted with enough dignity since leaving to allow fans to forgive him for all that bullshit during the summer of 08.

I'm not sure why people think hes been bad though, yesterday aside he hasn't been at majorly at fault for any other games this season so far has he?

Birmingham: Clean sheet.

Burnley: Scremer that could have gone anywhere and almost saved.

Wigan: Clean sheet

Arsenal: Great Arshavin goal that maybe he could have done better covering

Spurs: Conceded one that would have been difficult top stop from such close range

Besiktas: Clean sheet

Hes far from top form atm and some of his decision making has been a little off, but this is the first time hes had 6 games in a row at this level and 3 of those against some of the top teams in the country. On top of that defensive errors and complacency/lack of communication can't have helped much.

Oddly I don't see people getting so hard on Rio's case for his awful errors yesterday? :(

I dunno, don't want to be a Foster zealot, but I just think overall hes getting an unfair amount of criticism give the circumstances, without taking into account the saves he has made that have kept us in matches (Van Persie, Jenas was it?)

Rio's error was a brain fart of the highest magnitude. Fuck knows what he was thinking with that attempted pass!

Other than that, I thought Rio and Vidic were solid enough.

I can't wait for VDS to come back if I'm honest. I think the defence as a whole unit look a lot more comfortable with him between the sticks, I guess that's what experience brings.

The goals are in a Virgin sponsored video here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle6841690.ece

Should work, I have AdBlock+ running and it still found its way through the net.

Thanks dude.

Foster shure is shit. Everyone makes a mistake but that second Bellamy goal was just plain awful keeping. Ferguson won't tolerate much more of that.

Wish I was at O.T yesterday... must have been incredible at the end... city must have been acting like they had won the league when they equalised and then when owen scored...

up there with Bruce against Sheff Wed, Ole against Liverpool and Munich 99 and Macheda last season?

Munich stands head and shoulder above this and the others you mention. On a par with Macheda's goal vs Villa although my reaction had to be somewhat tempered due to my girlfriends insistence that I keep the noise down as her nephew was asleep on the sofa. This resulted in muffled yelps of joy and hitting the floor (I was sat on, not just getting off the sofa and hitting it!).

Game was always going to be a bit dead when we went down to 10 men but great goal from Welbeck. Quite nice to know that unless Ferguson drops Foster it's unlikely any player who started tonight will start at the weekend. Big squad ftw!

Feel a bit sorry for Fabio as if he doesn't slip then he should make the tackle easily. Still, thats exactly what Ferdinand should have done to Bellamy on Sunday.

What? That was the ultimate self sacrifice. He gave himself for the greater good. It was fucking heroic, see the standing ovation he gets as he walks off? That, and Barcelona are why he's a legend. :(

Vidic gets a yellow card several times a season for his cynical fouls. It happens all across football. I really don't understand your post.
