The old Man Utd Thread

I think last night was a terrific result. Besiktas have a fantastic home record, beating Liverpool 2-1 in 2007, and I thought this would be the toughest match in the group. Moscow will be difficult but only because of the trip, and us having to definitely rest players for Liverpool on the Saturday, not because I think they can beat us. Taking 3 points at a canter away to Besiktas is a great performance and there is certainly no need to get annoyed or down hearted about it.

We now just need to win our home games and we're through. Simple.

Yeah, given the teams we're up against, the home games should be pretty much a foregone conclusion. There's no proper minnows there though, so travelling is as always a case of not doing yourself any more damage than necessary. We've managed that, and got the win, great result.

My only issue is that whenever Utd play 4-5-1 they look sluggish and really lacking in idea's in midfield. Everything is so static and clueless. It lets the opposition develop confidence and build up a head of steam. Im not really surprised Rooney was fucked off given the thankless task he had to do last night.

I think we did alright last night, even with us playing 4-5-1. I think they are some issues with it personally, mainly I hate to Rooney up top alone. No wonder he was pissed off when he came off, I would have been too!

I'd much rather us play 4-4-2 but I think the tactics were spot on last night really. Wore them down and then changed to 4-4-2 when they were clearly tiring to take advantage. We won at a canter if I'm honest, without much problems. Never really looked like losing the game anyway.

Perfect preparation for the game the weekend.

I've been talking about how awesome it would be, and about how we would've done it already if our owners had, y'know, actually bought us. Rather than done a fancy-pants leveraged takeover, as long as they sell some of their other shit and pay off the debt we'll be fine though, but right now we've got more going out than coming in which is good for no-one. That said, money isn't the only problem with such a development.

"I have been joking with Carlos Tevez about the reception he will get.

I don't know if the fans will boo him or clap him. He did a great job at Manchester United. He respected the shirt and the fans understand that.

But if they boo him I will join in."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . ~ Patrice Evra

I was just coming on here to post that, that last line is funny. From what I have seen of Evra in interviews to date, is what probably said with a pinch of salt for his old friend.
