Bit worried about the defence.

They've done alright so far!

Should be at least 2-0 by now although Birmingham have had a couple of good chances.

The only dissapointment so far has been our right flank, Fabio and Valencia (admittedly it is their Premiership debuts for United) haven't done an awful lot. I'd prefer to see Valencia stay out wider and when he does drift in Fabio get beyond him a bit more. Overall though it's better than our recent first day performances!

Lost our shape in the second half when Nani went off but other than a couple more chances by Birmingham we were alright.

Rooney was brilliant, Foster had an excellent game (with one superb save) and everyone else looked solid. When you consider that was our 3rd and 4th choice centre halves and 4th choice RB the defence was good too. Apart from one dodgy moment from Evans I thought he was brilliant and showed a bit of pace too.

Plenty of chances created, which was the main thing. Didn't take them all but that will come in time. Certainly was a 1-0 where we didn't get out of gear, rather than the fabled 1-0 grinded result "of champions". Looking forward to seeing more from Valencia. It took him a while to gain the confidence to make runs, but once he did he provided some great chances. His crossing was particularly good. Just hope those injuries we've picked up aren't too serious. We've always got the option to bring someone else in before the end of the month at least.

I thought Fabio had a pretty good game for a debutant (Just got back from watching this up the pub) I think he could become a nice little player for United. Valencia I wasn't so hot on though, thought he just lacked something. Still first game and all that, be interesting to see how they both develop through the season.

Owen, well I'm not a fan of the guy personally but miss aside he seemed fit, really quite quick with some nice touches and good positioning. if he gets his goal-scoring head on I think he could be an astute signing for MU. Thought Berbatov was disapointing really, never seemed to get into the game.

Neutral viewpoint, over and out.

Oh don't get me wrong I think Fabio will become a brilliant player for us, Valencia likewise. You could just see today that they, understandably, didn't have the flow or understanding that Evra and Nani had on the other side.

Owen did well in the bried time he was on. He clearly lacks a bit of pace now but he's such a clever player in terms of reading balls and playing off the shoulder of the defender that he will get lots of chances. I thought Berbatov did alright, chased a lot more balls down and was generally a lot 'busier' than we normally see him.

There's no spark at the moment. Maybe just the spark in me, but it feels as if this wouldn't be a bad season to make a poor start rather than sleepwalking to a 1-0. Nothing to get excited or passionate about in that squad or today's display. Football is back, but I suspect Chelsea, Arsenal and City fans have got more of a reason to be excited.

I was there, Fabio was awful, mainly because he was letting players inside him all the time. He's looked so much better on the left side when I've seen him. Also, he was quite left behind in physical terms by the Brum players. I made a (47 megapixel) panorama, like I did at the city stadium last week, but it turned out a bit funny. I think my position relative to the pitch was less square, so it was all warped. I wonder if next time, I could just wander about at half time and take it more centrally? Hmm. Also, the south stand is hardly the ideal place to get a view of the whole stadium, although it's a great place to watch the game.

Great picture dude.

And as for lack of spark etc in the team it was only game 1 but on the other hand you'd have thought that would make for a better atmosphere with the crowd, welcome back football etc. But saying that, i got excited for about 5 minutes then got bored watching it, so what do i know.

Seemed cautious and workman like more than anything. There is a distinct lack of flare now Ronaldo isn't around. Still, no one seemed to be too out of shape, and the team created chances, so I can't see many calamities ahead.

The main problem was how many shots Birmingham had on goal - no one seemed to be closing in on the final third. I'm wandering if we're going to miss Rooney running around like a terrier out of position. Or be able to fine someone to properly link up and counter attack with him. Valencia doesn't seem to have the ball control required really.

The keepers were both very good today. Hart in particular must have made around 8-9 important saves.

Pleased for Foster, he just needs to keep fit and perform against decent teams (all dues to Birmingham, but they aren't exactly a free scoring team).

I thought Berbatov played very well yesterday. He chased things down, showed some great touches and produced some good balls and crosses. Unfortunately they were all in wide or deep positions. I want to see more of Berbatov in and around the box, linking with Rooney, but it was quite obvious that he was instructed otherwise.

Fucking hell Foster... he's a bag of nerves!

He's just shite.

I don't know where all the love comes from. Any time I've seen him play, although he might have pulled off one or two saves, he just doesn't seem consistent. He always bottles it and looks like he doesn't know what he's doing.

It's probably cost us the league. Eh, jon1?

It'll cost you a couple of teeth if you're not careful. :(
