The old Man Utd Thread

Pray do tell?

Ji, Pat and Carlitos used to have this adorable little gang, they do everything together and communicate in an unknown combination of languages, probably Esperanto.

So now that Tevez has left they have lost a member of their group (although as hes probably not even moving house then they will obviously keep up their unlikely trio out of hours).

We have signed (another) french starlet

I rememeber hearing about this a while ago and the deal sounds similar to the one that bought Macheda here. I can appreciate how frustrating it must be for the foreign clubs involved but when they aren't allowed to give professional contracts to young players and we're restricted to signing youth players within a 90 minute travel things like this are going to happen.

How long have Park and Tevez been in England now? Surely they can speak decent English? :(

Tevez signed for West Ham in August 2006, so pretty much three years. I find it hard to believe that he struggles with the language now. Players turn up for training at what, 10am and they are gone by 2pm? They have so much time to themselves during the week that paying somebody to tech them the local lingo should be one of the first things they do.

I think he still does press conferences in Spanish. Specifically the City signing one being the latest. I've always found it curious he hasn't pciked it up yet, I guess hes just not very confident with conversational English.

Has anyone got any more info/links to the Villa/Silva rumours?

I still think the squad could do with strengthening in both the areas they play, so I'm interested to know how much fact/fiction is involved here...

All the rumours seem to be coming from Guillem Balague, who is just as much a shit stirer as he is right. So who knows. Could just be a case of people seeing that we are playing them tomorrow and making five, ala the Ribery rumours last week.

Wouldn't surprise me that we have asked about him though, hes what we need and depending on who you believe we had a bid turned down last summer for him.

I'd love to see us get him personally, doubt we will though.

My sisters kid celebrated his 9th birthday today. He got a Manchester United shirt. How disappointing.

Maybe you should have got him an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time instead then.

Ill take him down the Villa this season. Buy him a fizzy drink, let him swear, maybe even stretch to a shirt. He needs a lifetime of being disappointed by a mediocre team rather than being another Manchester United fan who has never been within 100 miles of Manchester. Its character building.

I for one am quite happy to hear this. I know Foster will be able to step up to the plate here, rather now than later.

As good as Foster is or might be in the future, at this moment in time he's not a patch on VDS so I'm struggling so see why'd you be happy for VDS to be injured.

I have to admit I was almost happy to see VDS injured so that Foster will get a chance. A run of a few games could be exactly what Foster needs.

Any news on what team Fergie is likely to put out tonight (for the first half at least!)?

Not the tallest!? The guy is huge, VDS is just lanky which makes him look massive. There is a video somewhere of the team round a pool on the asia tour and Foster is massive, not in the Rooney 'who ate all the pies sense' either.

Hes certainly no Barthez, but he isn't the tallest keeper in the world at 6'2". Apparently VDS is 6'5.5"!

EDIT: Barthez is still a 6 foot midget apparently!

I checked wikipedia after my last post which has him at 6'2" as you say but it's not the most accurate source for such benign information and there is no reference to his height on manutd.com.

I'll see if I can find the video as he certainly looks taller than that.

Well, I mean, I'm living with three guys at Uni who are all about the same height as Foster (6'2") and I would say they are really tall, but for a keeper at his level that's probably slightly below average. I don't really know why I said it, a couple of inches is hardly going to make or break it for a keeper.

*edit*

As you say, I got that info from Wikipedia, but it seemed sensible to me.
