That´s a nice side effect I hadn´t considered - we wont have to suffer Ronaldo´s fucking free kicks. Sure, one goes in every six months or so, but fuck me it´s annoying seeing him line up. When we´re in the pub we play ´wall, crowd or saved´.

 Awesome, just what you'd expect from the Boss man.

Reminds me of last summer when all the speculation was around and he was asked in a press conference if he would sell Ronaldo to Real. He replied something along the lines of - "What? To that lot?? I wouldn't sell them a virus!"

Word. He's the new Roberto Carlos when it comes to free-kicks -- 90% of them are fucking terrible, and then you get the odd Portsmouth swirler that has Gray and Keyes creaming for about 6 months afterwards.

Stop rewriting history - He scored around 10 free kicks in the PL the last couple of years a fucking good return. Yes of course loads missed but if he had converted more he would be scoring 50 goals a year

But there were a lot of occasions when the sensible option would be to pass or put a ball into the box, believing your own hype and lashing the ball in from anywhere on the pitch isn't always the most productive

I don't think many people will be contesting that, it is just that his scoring record wasn't anything special and I doubt it will be any better than whoever takes over from him.

There may be lots of silver linings to Ronaldo's departure (£80m, the chance for Rooney to shine, opportunity for other free kick takers etc) but as a fan it's hard to see beyond it being a huge loss for both us and the premier league.

IMO Our team won't be as strong in attack or defence (our defenders wont be training against some of the best attackers:Ronaldo,Tevez in the world) and our standards overall will drop. He wanted to go, but there is little doubt he is irreplaceable.

The international focus will also start shifting from the PL to La Liga which means a loss in revenue and the ability to attract other star players. Finally, love or hate him he was amazing to watch.

Thats mental, losing a great attacking player on the training ground will have a far less negative effect on our defence than a completely unwilling defender on the pitch. I don't particularly agree about the shift in international focus either, you might expect a greater European focus on La Liga but in markets like Asia I expect the PL will still be ahead of La Liga.

I don't think losing a star player particularly effects our chances of buying other star players either, an undesirable location and unwillingness to pay stupid wages has a greater impact.

your making comparisons with things for no reason? Your bringing unwilling defenders into the mix?

I'm not saying Ronaldo's departure is the be all or end all, just mentioning where it will have some impact.

Eh? You said our team won't be as strong in defense and I gave my opinion on why it won't be worse off. The unwilling defender in question was Ronaldo, maybe I should have made that clear. I re-wrote the international bit a few times but I still wouldn't say it was contradictory, you said La Liga would now have a greater international focus and I believe that the only impact might be in Europe.

I didn't read your post as any kind of doom mongering I just thought the comment on our defense being worse off was a bit strange.

fair doos. Ultimately I think we will be worst off without him and we'll miss him most where it matters the most - my enjoyment in front of the TV.

Perhaps at the end of the series they'll put it on in real-life, like they do with Britain's Got Talent.

Doesn't seem to be anything particulalry new to these stories than the prevous ones though so it could just be regurgitation. At least it was in slighty more reputable sources than the NOTW or Sport I suppose.

The problem with him is the only way 99.99% of United fans will have seen him is on youtube where quite frankly anyone can be made to look like a world beater. He's clearly got ability and a 7million initial outlay might well be worth the risk.

I wouldn't be surprised if its true. I've said a few times on here I thought Valencia would probably end up being our only major signing, Owen on a free and a cheapo french youth player hardly constitute major signings. Saying that, it may be enough to see us through the season, hopefully the stupid prices will quieten down by next summer.

However, of course, even if Fergie has said this, its not like he doesn't change his mind on occasion if something he likes crops up.

It wouldn't surprise me if they do a deal with Gremio to bring Costa over in January, it's something we've done a few times recently.

At the end of the day we've sold 2 first team players and bought in another 2/3 (if you include Obertan) and Ljajic makes that 4 in January. With Wellbeck, Owen and Macheda I believe we've got more than enough players to compensate for Tevez leaving and from the looks of things Fergie has done the right thing and instead of trying to replace Ronaldo is looking to build the team around Rooney. It at least looks that way with a number of wingers being brought in anyway.

I think the most difficult thing for the team will be a complete change in the focus of who the play goes through. For the last couple of seasons a lot of our play has been focussed through Ronaldo and there is no direct replacement in the team. Seeing as our squad is now essentialy set for the forth coming season how about a few potential team sheets we will see?

I do expect we'll see a lot more of Foster this season as if he is going to be our number 1 keeper next season then he needs to get some serious game time this year. When certain parts of the media (cough Alan 'Cunt' Green cough) are suggesting that we won't even challenge for the title this season that looks like a pretty decent side to me. I'd love to see Anderson get a real regular run in the team, he sufferered from injuries last year and with a regular starting place I think he'll come on leaps and bounds. When you add in the other promising youth players and the experience of Giggs and Scholes we've still got an absolutely cracking squad. It looks increasingly likely that Chelsea aren't going to make any big signings and Liverpool are going to lose their best player from last season so it doesn't actually look that bad for us at all. Hell, i'm excited!
