What have you lot done to upset Real?

First they buy your best player, then buy your replacement. Even Ribery has come out and said he wants to join the Galactico's.

We got Valencia!

Not sure if i'd be happy due to previous injurys but he was at Newcastle and it aint as if they have a great track record recently of keeping players fit. Amount of groin injurys etc there players seem to pick up which is what has troubled Owen this year is prob the highest in the league.

Although it aint being reported on any other sites even Sky so hopefully it aint true

Nothing wrong with Owen joining. He knows he isn't going to play every game and that his only starts will be Carling Cup. He knows he's not gonna get the greatest wages in the world. We're the only team in the prem that can justify £50k a week on a bit-part player. That's what he'll be and I have no issue with it.

I would rather we stick with what we've got and let Wellbeck and Macheda play than sign Owen.

Those two lads could be great players in the future but its so early in their careers theres question marks against them surely ? They havent played 20 1st class games combined between them.

There is very little risk for you lot taking a punt on Owen. Your not going to be paying him much and despite the injury's he has not lost his scoring touch when he is actually fit. Playing in cup games, coming of the bench and covering for injury's to Berbatov or Rooney he is capable of getting you 10-15 goals next season.

Does anyone actually think Wellbeck will make it as a Man Utd player? He'll be another Kieran Richardson or whatever. I'm sure you'll get 5m or something for him in a season from some mug of a premiership manager though.

i am enjoying the fact that despite £80m in the bank United are struggling to replace Ronaldo because of Real's graviational pull sucking all the world class talent towards the Bernabeu. Losing Ronaldo and only being able to replace him with Valencia would have been unthinkable not so long ago

For me, the two major problems are doesn't have a left foot, and physically isn't up to it yet. The former means he can't really play on the wing, the latter means he can't really play up front. Yet. He's got good technique and awareness, though, if he didn't have those he'd have no chance.

Macheda has all the ingredients too I feel, just needs to get stronger and smarter.

We still technically have Manucho and Campbell too, if we decide not to sell any of them that makes 4 reserve strikers.

Maybe hoping for 3-4 top line stikers is too much, I mean we couldn't keep 3-4 happy last year. We have to assume that Rooney and Berbatov can make a good partnership and allow the younger players to fill the gaps.

Perhaps one of the reasons for our disjointed performances last season were partly due to the fact that neither Ronaldo or Tevez were completely happy for various reasons, that filters through the team. Rooney being played out of position and Berbatov being resented by Tevez and subsequently fans can't have helped either. Hopefully a more unified squad might be a positive side effect of loosing our big names.

Saying that, if Campbell and Manucho go off on loan or are sold, then i'd like us to try and bring Rossi back. I think he'd be up for a second shot and he would be more or less guarenteed a bench spot or start now that Tevez and Ronaldo are gone (which would be about the same he gets at Villareal now).

Whatever we do, I trust Fergie's judgement, and maybe we do take a hit or two, we have a young squad, we've been underdogs and underestimated in the past when bringing through a young and unproven team, if anyone can do it Fergie can, it may take a couple of years to challenge on all fronts again but the underlying strengh and structure is there, it just needs to develop.

I'd agree with most of that fatbob. Certainly think another top class striker would complicate matters like last season and tbh, could really do without it. I have no doubt Berba and Rooney will be formidable next year. Rossi back would just right I reckon. Priority rests upon maybe a centre midfielder and perhaps another winger. I'd like youth to get a good chance next year tho.

Costa as played 19 games actually, he's not going to be leading the line either, seeing as he's more of a midfielder/winger and no one has said we shouldn't play our own younger players. I would reckon most supporters are excited with the like of Welbeck and Macheda. Don't let that stop you having a good old moan though!

In all seriousness though, we shouldn't not buy him just because we have some talented younger players at the club already. Who cares if he's untested? Ronaldo had only played 25 games or so when we bought him and look how that turned out. He's got obvious talent, it just needs harnessing in the right way and I think we as a club are better than most at doing that.

I would be worried about going into next season without any other player(s) coming in though. I have really high hopes for Welbeck and I think he could be a star of the future, but he's still very young and as plenty to learn. Should Rooney or Berbatov miss any prolonged period of games it would leave us with a massive void to fill. I'd question if Welbeck could fill that void, even more so Macheda.

It's sheer lunacy to even consider paying that kind of money for somebody whose not even a one season wonder is my point. More so the case when loads of promising youngsters of our own have been pushed out the door without even being given a chance and really fucking dumb when anybody names a bad Ferguson buy, practically every name is a South American.

The odds of him signing have been slashed too, from 20/1 to 7/4.

;)

So the little gambling addict has outdone himself this time and placed all the bets himself?

What's he going to be on, a pay as you play deal and earn nothing?

Seriously though, the story is utter bullshit. It's occurred many, many times and Ferguson has laughed it off previously.

If there's truth in it... utterly pathetic ad unacceptable on a multitude of levels.

Out of interest, what did he do when those chances came to him in Newcastle's last few games?

Yeah, if Madrid decide they really want Alonso I'll remember to remind you of this quote and how brilliant you find the pull of Madrid is. Then again, having already played that game 10 or so years back with two players, I guess you already know that?

Fuck all. Never mind pay per play, you should pay him per goal. He cost us 1.5M per goal, you should get a better deal than that.

What do you all think of Valencia? Didn't see much of Wigan last season... Anything like a potential Ronaldo replacement?

Think that one's already been answered by a few on the last few pages.

General consensus is, no, he's not a replacement for Ronaldo. But then again, there's no such thing as a midfielder who scores and creates as much as he did. I'm sure I heard Gerrard had his best ever season last year, for goals scored in the league. He scored less than Ron, when Ron was apparently shit. The only direct swap I can think of would be Messi, which won't happen. Everybody rightly talks of Ronaldos 42 goal wonder year, and fairly so; the year before I thought he was better when he scored 25 and created 20. But, yeah, there's a reason why Utd got eighty million pounds cash, in one payment, yesterday. I guess Lampard has consistently scored 20 goals for ages and creates loads and is a decent lad and player, so deserves a shout.

However, Valencia is fast, strong and can cross a ball. He'll track back and defend, which will allow Rafael and Evra to attack even more, should he swap wings like all United wingers are encouraged to do. He's a proven Premiership player, too. I'll be honest and say I wasn't jumping for joy or enthralled; that said I think he will only improve at the club with better players and be a solid, dependable lad.

His goal scoring record is poor, I think the assist stat is unfair. I mean that stat says how many times he laid on a goal for Heskey/ Camara/ Rodallega, what it doesn't state is how many decent chances he created and they fucked up.

Yeah, i'm pretty optomistic that he will do very well for us, hes more of a finished article than any of the wingers we have bought in the last two years, but still has the poterntial to improve greatly in a good club environment.

He seems like a nice guy too. I remember reading an interview with Bruce saying that he was quite shy but became realy popular with the other players.

I have to say I wouldn’t mind Owen coming in. If we do move to a 4-4-2 next season then it will be near impossible to accommodate another world class striker. He could easily fill the role that Larsson did for a few months and could have a Solskaer-esque impact in having an eye for goal. I’d obviously rather we did sign Benzema but Owen could be the perfect ‘bridge’ between our first choice pairing and Wellbeck/Macheda. I’ve got absolutely no desire to see Villa at United, he is a poor mans Torres on a good day and is no better than what we have already.

I think Fergie will probably end up gambling on Costa, especially with the cash we’ve got knocking around. I’m not sure we’ll see any other midfielders come in, especially with Ljajic joining in January and Petrucci likely to make the step up to the first team this year. If we do sign more midfielders I would expect to see someone experienced come in but who knows.

This needs quoting more. Have you watched him for Spain? He always seems to outshine Torres, so how is he a poor mans Torres? And you would have Berbatov over Villa? Manucho over Villa?

Berbatov and Rooney only combined for one goal last season, so they would have to do better next season. I don't think Berbatov will bring the best out of Rooney like Saha did, someone like Villa who will stay in front of him would. But anyway he looks likely to join Barcelona.
