The old Man Utd Thread

I'm excited about seeing him play, he's always performed well against us and as always looked a threat whenever I've seen Wigan play. With a bigger stage and better players I'm hoping/expecting him to improve and become a better player.

Well, the player who was originally quoted as saying he is coming to United has now come out saying he never said anything. Add to that Marca make the NOTW look like a reputable news source I don't really think anything has changed.

You'd hope that Fergie would be more influential than Pelligrino or whatever his name is but money talks. Could we not get Cantona to have a word, or even better come back with him. Benzema and Cantona in one summer? SSPPLLUURRGGEEE.

I still can't believe we got the full 80m in one lump sum, no wonder Real had to take out a couple of 50m bank loans.

I'd take the Hunter off them, but hes hardly the creative whizz we were hoping Benzema would be for us.

I hope Real bankrupt themselves and have to sell the Bernabeu to a Saudi Royal who turns it into a carpark.

The parking in Madrid is fucking horrendous. I hope he knows that.

I'm more shocked that Marca may have actually been correct. Or are the news sites just quoting Marca with a randomly generated transfer fee?

EDIT : Nope, seems to be a quote from his agent saying a deal has been agreed. FFS, what are the chances of Blatter saying anything about Real's expenditure? LOL. Not that I am bitter but I hope he has a gash season and doesn't get in the French team for the WC.

Well, whats his face in The Times.... err, Mumbley Joe seemed sure that the deal with United was close, they aren't know for random bullshit as much as some of the other rags (like Marca).

I dunno.

EDIT: James Ducker

The news on this transfer (Benzema) seems to change by the minute. SSN seemed to have been taken from a Goal.com report where they were quotes attributed to his agent. Now, Lyon have said that this is rubbish and no deal as been agreed. Thats what I can gather so far, no idea how true all that is.

Either way, its all a bit crazy at the minute!

Well if we don't get him it's not the end of the world, we still have Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda and Wellbeck. It's disappointing though that we sell our top goalscorer to Real Madrid and then they buy our potential replacement too.

Also the clubs agreeing a fee is not a cast iron sign that he's going there, if we match the fee then it'll rest with the player to decide where he wants to go.

I'm really surprised that United didn't try and put some gentleman's agreement in place over the sale of Ronaldo, where Real wouldn't go after who we're trying to get as replacements.

Who's next on the list then?

Nah, there is no way we won't sign anyone else. In terms of the 'big' players left i'm not overly keen on Aguero although Ribery may still be available as Real surely can't find another 40-50 million. Especially as they will have to spend something in defense.

I think we'll see a surprise signing or two now. I do find it strange that we never even bid for Benzema, or at least not that we know of. It makes me think that Fergie is set on playing a more conventional 4-4-2 next season and if anything we'll probably see another attacking midfielder or striker to play in the hole. Will be interesting to see if we bring in Costa too, Gremio rejected the request for us to take him on trial for a few weeks so there is obviously keen interest but with another young attacking player arriving in January and Wellbeck sure to feature how many inexperienced attacking midfielders can one team contain?

We could try to get Sneijder and Huntelaar off Madrid on the cheap, mebbe £35-40m, I think they'll take any decentish offers. Unless we get Benzema, in which case I think we're good for the summer. Doesn't look likely, though.

It sounds like he's very reluctant to leave Spain and the big two over there have shown plenty of interest.

Now that Madrid have got Benzema, I can't see them going in for him. They already have Higuain and Raul, one of whom they are going to have to drop if they are to accomodate their new signings. He's most likely off to Barcelona, he will most likely join even if Eto'o stays.

I'd laugh if no-one was interested in taking any of the existing players off of Real's hands.

Anyhow, you should try and nab Sneijder, he'd be an nice replacement for Scholes. Otherwise you've got enough quality up front, especially with the kids coming through again.

Could see maybe a couple of signings based on future potential, aka when you bought Ronaldo.

Haven't they got Van Nistelrooy and Huntelaar as well? That's six strikers for fucks sake!

I think Villa or Aguero would both do very well for us, come on Fergie...

Can't see Villa wanting to come here and Fergie will never pay £50 million plus for Aguero.

Ribery deal equally seems out of the question as he wants to go to Real and the price would be in excess of £50-60 million. Zidane seems to be doing a good job of selling those scummers to the French players. I think the closest we will come to a 'big' name would be David Silva, but I very much doubt he would want to come either. Spain is the place to be at the moment.

Wouldn't be surprised if we did buy Hunter from Real though, although again I don't think he was the kind of player Fergie was after. Sneijder is a good player, but I can't help feeling that replacing Ronaldo etc with the players he is replacing at Real isn't the best way to go.

I'm sure Fergie has a few options open, but if the money or the time isn't right because of the stupid inflating of the market or the World Cup or whatever, then don't be surprised if nothing happens, at least this season.

Speaking of people called Zidan(e), the young Egyptian striker Zidan is pretty tasty and might be a long shot bet, heard a rumour last year we were scouting him before he went to Germany.

Fuck Spain. Their league is shit on a whole. With Valencia going down hill fast it might as well be the SPL. These players don't have any bottle. I admire players like Torres who want to come and test themselves in the hardest, most competative league in the world. Barca doing the double doesn't change anything, the fact is they were lucky to be in the final, and lucky that for some unknown reason, Fergie decided to do exactly what Guardiola would have wanted him to.
