The old Man Utd Thread

Well, yeah I would agree then. He doesn't dominate games and his loss of form in the latter half of the season was horrifying. His runs aren't timed well and his defensive work isn't up to much. But he can pass the ball as well as anyone in the league I'd say, he just needs to stamp himself in games more.

The only criticism I have of Carrick is that he doesn't dominate games like he maybe should, but then maybe he's one of those players. He's still fantastically important to the team and I think you've short changed him. Defensively he's fine, he might not run around like a Hargreaves but his intelligence is his asset when it comes to plugging gaps when we don't have the ball.

I'd like to see him partner Fletcher more often as I think with both being box to box players and able to get around the pitch we could see more from Carrick in an attacking sense. They is no reason why Carrick can't score more goals than he has done in recent years. He's got great technique when striker the ball and we've seen glimpses of his shooting since his time here.

I do hope he'll mature into a player who can stamp his authority on games, he most certainly the qualities to do so, I just think its a question of believing in himself.

I'm fan of Hargreaves too

I said you stumbled along THIS YEAR. Once again, READ THE FUCKING POST! and yeah you did stumble to the Champion's league final with an easier run of fixtures than all the other teams.

Come off it Jimmy.

If you win at home and draw away in Europe in the group stages you go through, top of the group. Results being the way they were, had they needed to beat Aalborg in the last game to get the 12 points they would have put out a full team and beaten Aalborg, getting the 12 rather than 10 they finished on.

The team drew away at Inter and even you can't deny Utd were the better team. Inter were better from about 20 minutes in at Old Trafford, but the game was done when Ronaldo scored just after half time. So that's, what, 25 minutes over 180 where Milan were better, compared to the full away for Utd and the opening 20/ entire second half of the second leg. SCRAPED.

Utd were insipid at home against Porto. That said, we had as many chances to score as they did, so 2-2 was hardly unjust. Porto didn't threaten in the slightest in the second game, Utd won that game and had by far the most clear cut chances.

Arsenal. Utd won the home game and battered them, even Wenger admitted they were lucky they weren't out of it. Second game, away, over inside the first 10 minutes. Again, Utd stumbled past the opposition, aye.

You can talk of difficulty of draw. I agree, it's totally unfair that you win your domestic league and get seeded and have to play lesser teams. I also agree it's totally unfair you win the group stage and again get drawn against theoretically weaker teams who didn't top their group.

That said, the Champions of Italy are hardly shit. Granted it was the Utd's own doing that saw them having to win in Porto, but you tell me, how many other teams manage that? Arsenal, obviously the weakest of the English 4. That said on their day they're still an impressive outfit, Utd's record against them over the last five years shows that. I think you'd also struggle to find many teams outside of Barca and the English that were better than them in last years tournament.

Hargreaves is my favourite player in the current squad. Got his name on the back of both shirts I bought this season (next season's will be Fabio and Rafael, respectively B)) In what little we've seen of him at United he's been fantastic. I've long been a fan of his, ever since everyone was on his back when he broke into the England squad. He's the reason I'm a Bayern fan. Love the guy. Don't know why I've typed this paragraph, saw him Hargreaves talk earlier.

You were the guy that got Fortune for shits and giggles, right? I'm sure I read you said Heinze and Cantona just before he left, yeah?

Please don't get the twins and jinx them :( Get Essien, because despite Jimmy thinking Scouse are the only team to have injuries, I'd much prefer a ckny curse be placed on the Ghanaians head.

Or, if you must have a Utd name, get a goalie top and PIG, hopefully so he gets fucked off. Though that could work the other way and see him somehow play and fuck up more than usual :/

Fave player? It's tricky- Paddy Evra I really, really like but besides him it's Scholes and maybe Rooney who I deeply respect and feel "get" the club, but they're not as charismatic as say Eric or Keane. If I still bought tops I'd probably still be getting Cantona 7 I think.

Perhaps I used the wrong word when I said stumbled to the final, but I was really just pointing out that you had the easiest run, which you did. Also Yes Inter are shit. And wow you lost Gary Neville for a whole season! whoopy-doo.

What's with the 'Jimmy' anyway?

Shits and fucking giggles? Oh no, no, no. I bloody love Quinton Fortune.

Looks like it yeah. Don't really know how to fel on this one. Coupled with Ronaldo going it feels like a massive loss but his limitations where there for everyone to see this season. He will be an excellent starting player for whoever he goes too but he just isn't versatile enough for squad player. The problem is we could have easily got as good a player for 25 million before Real got their cheque book out. Now it might prove trickier. I wouldn't be surprised to see Huntlear or someone like that come in now.

Definitely means we have to sign a striker of some kind though. Aguero can fuck off with his 200k wage demands so that pretty much leaves Benzema who we are apparently in for with Inter and Real. Really can't see Real going for him if they get Villa and surely he would choose us over Inter?

I think Huntelaar is great, but hes not realy ideal given that we have Berbatov now, if we went for Klaas we're still going to need another stiker/wing forward in the vein of Benzema I feel. Who knows though. I get the feeling that even though we have a decent pot of money this year people aren't going to want to pay the inflated prices that City and Real's posturing has caused.

We might just get Valencia.

Dirty fucker. Says he wants to stay so we make him an offer and then he fucks off!

To be fair, he hasn't been saying he wants to stay for a long time, in fact hes been saying hes leaving since March IIRC.

I don't know whether his high wage demands were the reason we couldn't commit to a deal sooner, but I feel waiting this long and allowing Chelsea and City to push up his wage expectations has done for any chance we had of keeping him.

At the end of the day, he doesn't seem like the cold, calculating type, but we know that his 'owners' are the worst kind of businessmen out there and are wanting the biggest money cut they can get. As it stood as much as Tevez may have loved the club, if his advisors are constantly telling him that City can quadruple his wages and he doesn't even have to fucking move house then I think a lot of players would go along with it.

City though, talk about going out for a burger when theres a steak at home...

There's just something about Benzema. I feel like it's been a matter of when and not if he joins the club for two or three seasons now. From the first time I noticed him I thought I'd one day be wearing his name on the back of my shirt. It's as if fate has been drawing us together. So if he ends up at Chelsea or Liverpool, I'll lose faith in the power of fate and cry uncontrollably.

I'm hoping they have something in place for somebody already with how quiet they're being. Losing Ronaldo and Tevez is quite a big hit to the squad, so I hope they start moving for replacements soon.

I think the shape of Man U's team, and their style of play, will change so that they're built around Rooney, rather than a Ronaldo type player. I don't think Man U will necessarily have to replace him, really. They're just gonna switch it up in a way that the Ronaldo-shaped hole is gonna be patched over, rather than filled, if you get what I mean. They're gonna be a different beast altogether next season.

Hopefully, our style wasn't as good as it was the year before, and that not as good as the year before that IMO. Hopefully if the boss builds the team around Rooney then we will be just as good in a different way. I think Rooney's waited long enough to become the focus already.

Just heard Kia Joorabchian on Talksport saying Tevez won't consider going to Liverpool because of the rivalry with United.

I'm sure that's very noble of him to show his loyalty to a club that he's just refused to sign a lucrative contract for.

It's his own fault he's not good enough. From consecutive Champions League Finals and five trophies in two seasons to mid table mediocrity. Enjoy.

Hilarious. Keep em coming like that. People will rightly think you're mad tho.

Simple facts are that the price was too high and he didnt score enough. Running around pressurizing the opposition is not enough. I wish him luck, but he will not be that big a loss I dont think. Would have liked to have kept him but C'est la vie
