Is that the same fans who deride Utds for glory hunting yet were queing round the block in there hundreds to get season tickets the day they got bought over? Or was that just coincidence? I dunno who you support but whoever it is you give them a bad name, all you do is come in here a pick arguments.

So going to buy a season ticket, which costs quite a bit by the way, because someone has bought your club and you now have some belief that you might really challenge is glory hunting? Where you from again? oh yeah. Falkirk didn't take your fancy no.

I didn't pick an argument, I simply pointed out that not everyone that goes somewhere else only does it for the money. If you and Jon1 are too ignorant to see that then fuck the pair of ya.

QPR till I die!

Got it in one. You really need to stop teeing them up for me, Fate.

Er yeah, isn't that the exact definition of glory hunting? Following a team only because they might have a chance of winning?

Never ever stop though fateone, you bring me too much joy in this thread.

Noooo, the same fans going to buy season tickets were the ones who went to games as and when they could afford to. The same ones filling up the stadium anyway. Now they have a chance of bringing in some exciting players and moving up a level, these same fans have decided it's worth the risk of paying out the big lump sum for a season ticket. How on earth is that wrong?

A glory hunter is someone who supports a team that is already successful, despite no real connection to it, financial or emotional support of it. Ain't that right McFly!

Well that's obviously quite an imaginative way of looking at things and one I'm sure isn't accurate. I actually looked up City's attendances and was surprised to learn that they're actually down quite some way on their first season in the Council House, and this season they were actually down the season before that. They really are a self hating lot. There's always adverts in the MEN and on Xfm for cheap seats for the next game. Capacity is 47,000, average is 40,000.

So these fans were fans before, but now that they're going to be more successful (probably), they only decide that now's the time to buy a season ticket? Not exactly the reaction of a super-fan now, is it? Oh and as well, didn't realise that they had the backgrounds of everyone who bought a season ticket, how regular they went to games before, how interesting...

I'd be very surprised if they weren't full-up every weekend too. Have the new owners raised ticket prices? That's the only reason why some STs might be available.

Oh shit, I forgot, troll.

 I actually nearly pissed myself... good stuff!

Tosic can hit a free kick can't he! Just watched the highlights of the Italy game and his free kick near the end. It was hit with some venom from that far out and wasn't too far away.

He does look good and deserves a good run out this season.

The last team you want to play on the opening day of the season is one that's just been promoted. So we get Birmingham. Better that than Burnley, mind - we've got them second up, just when their Premiership honeymoon should be coming to an end.

Even so, that's what should be an easy six points for our rivals (apart from Liverpool, of course, who are bound to mess up against Burnley) made rather more difficult than I'd like on the first week of the season.

Interesting radical policy we are apparently adopting.

Apparently we won't sign any players over the age of 26 (for high transfer fees) from now on. :)

The reason being that younger players are easier to recoup money from when we sell on.... Makes business sense I guess, but still. Rules out Ribery, Villa, lots of potential Ronaldo replacements.

What about defenders? Defenders rarely even come into their prime untill after 26.

It confuses me why they would employ such a strict policy publicly rather than just keep youth in mind while taking each player on a case by case basis.

I think it would be a crime not to go for Ribery as he would be such a great fit for us, and yes hes over-priced and wouldn't make much from any probable re-sale but still, Ronaldo needs replacing if we want to keep successful, and you have to spend money to make money, even with massive dept.

Thats the thing, we still need to be successful to pay the debt. So not getting in a quality player because someone is 27 seems a bit daft to me. A Ribery (or someone of similar qualities) would obviously make a huge difference to our team and help us to carry on with the success we've had.

I don't think is a new policy though, they've been a few exceptions through the years but generally speaking it has been younger players (26 and under) that Fergie has bought.

We've generally always buy young anyway, and rarely try to compete with Chelsea of Real for the marquee names (untill this summer supposedly) its seems silly to self restrict like this.

I've heard rumours of this from various places for a few weeks now, about Gill saying he would not being going for Ribery because he was too old for example, so someone has been saying something, there are quotes in the article, but they are not referenced or mention who they are from. Guardian making 5?

If this is a policy, then it must be SAF and Gill's, as i'm sure the Glazers woulnd't have tried to dictate to Fergie who he can buy, unless of course this is a catch of having the whole Ronaldo sum to spend...

Ah right, maybe I should have said the only reason 'I can see'. I'd actually be interested to know what your thoughts are on it...

I got sidetracked after that though with FATEone's barrage of shite.

And for a while under Fergie too: 88/89 we were 11th and 89/90 we were 13th (tied on points with a Man City team who'd only been promoted the season before). Not exactly world beating form for people to piggyback on.

I'm really in two minds about paying a whopping transfer fee for Ribery. He is the closest (and pretty much only) option for a as good as direct replacement but we could end up paying 50 million for a player who may give us a good couple of years before buggering off to spain.

It all depends on the system Fergie intends to play next season, 4-4-2 then yeah I would probably go for Ribery although playing a 4-3-3 I would take Benzema or Aguero in the blink of an eye. At least we might get a good few years and a better profit when they decide to go back to Spain. I can't understand why people want Villa when those two are available for similar fees and would stay around for longer.

Oh, and until we start spunking the Ronaldo cash our net spend for the last 5 years currently stands at a little over 10 million!

We should probably ask for that back from Bayern in refund for Owen Hargreaves' legs.

If they really are, then you're 100% right. Villa is obviously a quality player, but I'm sceptical as to whether he'd be able to do it in the Premiership, and if he could; would he fit into Utds high-tempo, quick-break style of play. If you could get Aguero for the same money I'd be on that like beans on toast. So versatile, so clever, and so Argie lol. Benzema too is another player, although quite different to the other two, that could really add something to Utd. He has pace and power á lá Rooney, and would probably slot into the direct style of play better than the others.

I'd personally like to see Aguero or Benzema too over Villa, as in terms of the money you could probably get one of them for under 30 million where as Villa would be over 40 million, and of course he is 27.

One of those two, Ribery and Valencia as well as a surprise youngster or two is what would please me most assuming that Tevez is gone.

Benzema would be a quality addition, but he does seem to favor a move to Real Madrid from past interviews.

I still think Ribery would be my number one priority. He's a very good wide player and up there with the best in the business in those wide areas.
