The old Man Utd Thread

You got carried away here, I feel, because that bit is LOL. No way. He's a fantastic passer of the ball and can spray it about, sure, but he doesn't have the legs or the brain to run a game like Alonso can. Not even close. I don't say that lightly because Beckham's a very cultured and intelligent footballer but he's not a CM, and he's certainly no Alonso. Alonso, as you know, consistently dominates and controls the midfield. Did you see us out-pass the pass-masters from Ashburton Grove home (for the vast, vast majority of the game) and away (until they went down to 10 and went berserk) this season? He's done it in pretty much every game this season. Just constantly controlled the flow of the game. I know Beckham did well there for England the other day but it was only Andorra.

Apologies for going off topic there.

Well he played there when he first went to Madrid and was quality. He might be a bit past it now, but if he'd have been converted fully back then, who knows. He can easily play CM now though and do a very good job. To say he's not even close though is a bit LOL as you say. He is, even now, one of, if not the best passer of a football in the world.

Without wanting to go back into old debates too much, he did leave his boyhood club in search of success, so loyalty has nothing to do with it. Hes a great player, could be the best player in the world, but if for example Liverpool struggle for whatever reason in the next few years hes harldy going to throw away a chance should someone like Barca come knocking.

Two years is a very short time to expect a player to devote himself to a club for life.

Liverpool seem to be turning a corner though with him and Gerrard, so I don't expect him to leave anywhere anytime soon.

I guess at least he is Real-proof eh?

I'm pretty sure I read something about him sayng that as a boy he dreamed of playing for Liverpool, wants to finish his career there, or maybe one day go back to Atletico? He said he came to England because he wanted to show he could do it in the toughest league, and he felt his style of footall suited it better.

Not realy any comparrison between the two though.

I don't think i've ever believed anything Ronaldo ever said, hes not too trustworthy, on the other hand Torres seems like a genuinely nice guy.

You can never rule out changing your mind though.

He really isn't (close), though. He is a fantastic passer of the ball but, as I said, he can't run a game like Xabi can. He's very one footed as well. He doesn't keep possession ticking over with short, sharp passing and clever movement. Do you not remember his complete inability to control the flow from the centre against Northern Ireland a (long-ish) while back? Given time and space, he can find his man pretty much anywhere with his right foot but there is much more to a great CM than that. He was a great winger and he's definitely capable of running things against shit international teams but when you're comparing him to truly great central midfielders he falls short.

Well, it would seem I'm gay for Alonso, so it would seem he's got me there.

we're all gay for Alonso so go forth with pride sister!

Oh yeah...

I forgot to mention this at the time, but did someone really say £40 million for Alonso would be a 'crazy' bid? after the shenanigans of the transfer window so far!? LOLage

Looks like a little jibe at Ronaldo. :)

Yeah, he's known for his 'humour', and there's no way he'd wear that crop top otherwise. Clearly he's just borrowed it off his girlfriend, or something like that. It'll probably have stretched a bit...

Looks like Tevez is going to City. He wants to stay in England, he can't go to Liverpool surely out of respect for our fans, so City it is. Would still cause a fuss but less of a fuss.
