The old Man Utd Thread

Call me naive, but I think Utd are big enough not to need a commercial sponsor. Why not go down the road of Villa and Barca and get a charity sponsor? Yes you lose some potential revenue but you gain a lot more in a moral sense which can also in itself generate revenue.

You don't turn your nose up at £20m a year. Never heard of Aon, like I'd never heard of AIG. Doesn't make a jot of difference though really, just ridiculous next season's kits will all be out of date 12 months later.

Naive. Do you realise how much debt you are servicing? Also, When did moral decisions ever get in the way of business.

I'll pay for this!

Looks alright. It's certainly better than this:

You're not far off the mark with that big V across the chest.

I know he has been on your books for a few years but on loan at other clubs but thought it might be worth an ask here. What are you guys thoughts on Frazier Campbell ? he is being touted for loan moves as parts of deals to Wigan, Blackburn etc or even for sale atm.

Even your more promising youngsters like Macheda and Welbeck will never play regularly for Man Utd in my opinion. When was the last time Man Utd produced a truly great player coming through all the youth ranks?

Jonny Evans. Gerard Pique aint bad either.

He did, but so did Macheda so I wasn't entirely sure whether he meant has played for Utd reserves/ youth or was brought up totally through those ranks.

Either way, Evans is a pearl of a player.

Edit- Macheda was obviously not Barca but Lazio, but you get the gist.

As for your original question on Campbell, he never got a chance at first team level, much like Rossi (who too wasn't half bad).

He's very quick, but the theory was he was neither big or strong enough, nor adaptable qualities which Wellbeck has. Thus not as big a prospect... but I'd back Campbell as the more clinical.

He had a cracking scoring rate for the reserves and I liked the look of him, but like I say, he was never given a chance. Christ knows what TBB is basing his opinion on.

What's that based on though fella? Campbell looked mint for the reserves and youth, never given a chance at 1st team... he looked good against Toon in his one game on the opening day. Basing a decision on a handful of 10 minute subs appearances for Spurs would be real harsh in my eyes.

Granted it's the 1st division, he looked excellent for Hull too. Don't really watch England but he's a regular there too.

With Campbell you always get the feeling he doesn't quite have the first touch or ball control to make it at the top. Macheda's goal against Villa showed he definitely has something and likewise Wellbeck has put in some really promosing performances. Both of them look raw, but in a good way not the 'won't be good enough to make it way'. Ferguson certainly rates them anyway, and when you add in Petrucci and a number of other players I think there is a chance that a couple at least could well make it in the first team. This ignores Evans who has been brilliant this season and looked ten times more composed than defenders who've been playing in the league for over 5 years.

There is no doubt that our academy/youth team went through a very quiet period but it has been significantly redeveloped over the last 5 or so years and the current crop of players certainly look like the best in a long time, whether they make it or not. This season Ferguson has given quite a few players chances and nearly every player has taken them and done really well so hopefully all the other reserve/acdemy players know that they could well get their chance. How many other managers would have bought on Macheda instead of Giggs or Nani against Villa?

And bye bye Mr Campbell, to Hull.

£6M is quite a decent amount, though we normally do receive relatively large amounts for players who have potential but proven little. Personally I feel he'll shine in a settled, regular team and score more than 10 next season and ultimately earn another move up. Good luck to him really, though it is a shame he never got a chance.

Yeah, I wish we kept him. Although, if he had stayed that would have been less chance for Wellbeck, and to a lesser extent Macheda to get a chance to play.

We still have an option to buy him back I believe.

What does eveyone think of Ashley Young?

Could be a good fit for us on the left, and would let Rooney come more central like everyone wants him to.

Giggs isn't a winger any more, Nani isn't doing it for us yet, Tosic looks to be a way off and as much as I like Park we could do with a pacey left footed winger/forward.

I think the consensus of opinion is that Valencia is the the target, but hes more of a right sided player IIRC?

I think a lot depends on what Ronaldo is doing, it won't be a great position to be in if he suddenly goes in late August when there won't be that much time to replace him adequetly, with Ribery for example. :D

I think Young is a decent player but I do think he's a little bit over rated if I'm honest. I would prefer to have Valencia which would mean Ronaldo would play on the left where I think he's just as dangerous.

Also, reports on talkSport are saying that Tevez as all but signed for Man City. Disappointing if true, more so on the choice of club than anything else.

Just heard the same thing. Would you rather he went to City or Liverpool though?

It's a bit weird for everyone involved really. I've always liked Tevez but him coming over to us is his agents dream rather than Tevez's. He always gives everything for his team so I'm sure once the dust settles he can be a great signing for us.

Allegedly at the moment of course.

All we need now is for Forlan to sign...
