The old Man Utd Thread

If nobody ever moved form where they were born and we had no media coverage I would be inclined to agree with you but both of those things have a massive effect on the fan base. Of course you'll get glory hunters too but did this not happen with Liverpool in the 70's/80's too?

I started supporting United after a couple of seasons on some ancient football manager game before I ever followed actual football. I'm sure there are loads of people who support a team for equally trivial reasons.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

How sure are you?

It's fine for people with decent football on their doorstep saying you should only support your local team.

I live in a small town in N. Ireland and I'll be fucked if I'm paying good money and standing in shitty grounds watching something that amounts to little more than pub football just because they are local. Fuck that shit, not to mention half the teams around here are as much about religion as anything else. If I have to switch to the premier league to be entertained then I will and I'll be damned if I feel guilty about it.

If a championship level team or similar played nearby I'd be a season ticket holder no question but not the absolute crap that passes for football where I live. I feel no loyalty or need to give the clubs my money just because they are local. My father started supporting UTD when George best played and it's just been in the family ever since. I was 14 when my older brother took me a cross to Old Trafford for the first time and it's something I'll always remember. :P

Like I said it's fine to preach about loyalty when your team plays football that is worth watching. Around here? I wouldn't give a monkey's fuck if the teams went bust tomorrow.

Should teams only field local born players as well then? I mean it's tribal ain't it? Plus if you think there is no Liverpool - Man Utd banter in ireland you are really, really wrong. Both teams get massive turn outs in pubs over here.

And in London.

Liverpool supporters under 30 in London I can almost accept, as there tends to be a plausible reason for it, passed down from family, witnessing the atmosphere of a champion's league night etc... Man U is hard to stomach though for the simple fact that it's blatant glory hunting.

EDIT: after reading a big boys post, I can see what he's saying though, about falling in love with a club at a young age etc...

Fate

GTFO of our thread thank you kindly!

how am I supposed to do that? you guys just make it so easy, well JLR, Phresh, Trigg and a few others anyway....

so I was saying...

I've watched Anderson a fair bit and a lot of his missed passes are actually just a bit to clever for the player they are for. Other than that he is quicker, stronger and better on the ball than most midfielders. With a bit more composure and a few goals he could be truly exceptional.

I think Nani will get one more season, he's not played much this season and Ferguson has implied that he will stay. It could well depend on if Tosic breaks into the team and if Ljaijc is introduced straight into the first team when he joins us.

Did you check his stats on football manager to come up with that?

However I do agree that he has the potential to be a world class player in years to come.

Regarding Nani, those of you that want him gone don't surprise me, being the typical fickle majority football 'fans' you clearly are. He has achieved more in his first two seasons with ManU than Ronaldo did, as I've said before. Why would it not seem likely to you that he will be developed and improved in the same way. You'll all be wanking over that back-flipping little Somalian in a few years no doubt, 'till he decides he wants to go to Madrid of course.

I know which player near enough everyone on the planet would rather have

But given the choice between Gerrard and the trophy which would they (you) choose?

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

How sure are you?

What is that even supposed to mean? I assume it is a thinly veiled attempt to call me a glory supporter but taking into account that you don’t know me and can’t even admit which team you support I’ll pass judgement for now.

hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahah

At least Disciple doesn’t attempt to hide his trolling. You are more like the new CommandoLOL.

I see the closet Liverpool fan as found his way into the Utd thread again on the weekend when we clinch the title, bitter much, Fate?

Anyway, really happy for Vidic, thoroughly deserved award in my opinion and he seemed genuinely embarrassed by the fact he won it. Always nice to see humble players.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I heard we will end up with more points than last season and had we won our last two games our highest points total ever (in the PL).

It's really just highlighted the importance of playing consistently. Not sure if the stat will be the same at the end of the season but we'll only have dropped 2 points against the bottom 10 teams. Just like Liverpool will be saying if they improve against lower opposition they could win the league, I can't see United dropping so many points against the rest of the big 4 next season so it should make it a lot tighter, especially if Arsenal and Chelsea get their houses in order.

Shows just how well both teams have done really. We pushed you all the way and got a points total that would likely win the league in any other season. Chelsea aren't too far back either. Early in the season it was looking like being a low points total needed to win the title, but the back end of the season has been something special. I still pin point the inability to beat West Ham, Stoke & Fulham at home as our most damaging point drops. Especially as we battered these teams but couldn't score. Stoke hurts most because of a disallowed goal.

It is really set up for next season now. The strongest Liverpool team since 1990 vs Alex Ferguson's dream of knocking us off our perch. It will be a straight race to number 19 and will be even more of a rollercoaster than this season. I cannot wait until August and if the league fixtures computer has any sense it will make Liverpool vs Manchester United the final game of the season.

FATEone was coming across as a right cunt, mainly because I don't see why the fuck anyone should have to justify supporting any football team. Let alone to him. If someone who lives in the shadow of Anfield decides to support Manchester United for a really profound reason, a really small reason, or no fucking reason at all other than they want to do so, good for them. And they should tell any bastard who tries to shit on it to fuck off.

However, that sentence is awesome, so I can't help but have love for the guy (I just hope he has a really genuine reason for the brand of car he drives though, or I'll be mighty pissed off) :P

I never realised Nani was from Somalia

That's why it's so funny. I imagine he almost started frothing at the mouth as he typed it.

Congratulations on winning the title guys, well deserved. Was at the game in the home crowd on Saturday and, being as neutral as possible, it was one of those events that you just experience and soak up. A fair few away fans also stayed to applaud you lifting the trophy which didn't go un-noticed around me.

Again, well done - hopefully we'll give you more of a challenge next season.

That's where my brother works, lol. He's about 6'3" skinny, called James. Apparently Phil Collins gave him a big tip yesterday.

Think that'll be the VIP suites, not super suites as we definetely didn't have Phil Collins. Just Simon Webbe from Blue :P.

Also worked Player of the Year last night...god most of the football team are a miserable bunch. Whilst I was serving them food they were just sat there looking bored out of their minds! Did offer Colleen and Scholes a cup of tea and they at least smiled at me though!

Oh I see, I thought it was something to do with the player of the year awards.

What is it supposed to mean? It means that you have just outed yourself as someone who doesn't have a fucking clue about football. You decided to support ManU after playing football manager!? that speaks for itself!

What is trolling? Is it pointing out the endless amounts of bullshit you attempt to pass off as knowledge?

Full on nervous breakdown. It's the only explanation for what's just happened here.

No not quite.

See what I tend to do is come to these threads when I have nothing else to do and anything that I read that I have something to say about, I reply to. Now this seems to perpetuate in me apparently trolling this thread, when what I am in fact doing is reading the bollocks many posters write in here, and showing it for what it is. Then these little know-nothings say 'you're a closet Liverpool fan LOL', because they've realised that they don't actually have anything sensible or fact-based to say.

Why would I be bitter?

I'm in this thread and all the other football threads on a regular basis Trigger, so no, I'm afraid that one just isn't quite cuttin' it.
