The old Man Utd Thread

Do you reckon they will actually bother to do a open top bus parade if Utd win the Champions League again this year?

Talks with the council are ongoing. The way the MEN words it, it appears we'll only get one if we win the Champions League, there wont be one solely for the Premier League.

In other news, I drunkenly sent an invitation to Dave Whelan via the Wigan club secretary to join us for a piss up on Saturday at the Blaze. They got back to me this morning, informing me while Dave is not a United fan he wishes he could be there but is otherwise engaged! Legends!

The problem on wednesday was as much the pitch/weather as anything else, Evans will cope fine will Adebaylolr.

There is no way Arsenal will keep a clean sheet so i'm pretty confident we'll tie the league up tomorrow.

Someone should get Ultraman in their ultras

Notice how it says Italian and Spanish Ultras are going to target Manchester United hooligans. What it should say is Italian and Spanish hooligans are going to target anyone who gets in their way.

I am slightly concerned about the possibility of violence or crowd trouble but hopefully it will be OK.

On the upside if there was any it would pretty much guarantee Italy won't get the World Cup/Euro's or any other finals any time soon.

Balls. We could've done with Rio tomorrow for his experience and organisation. Evans looked a little ragged against Wigan I thought and will need to be at full alert against an Arsenal side who will look to get in behind our defense.

I think we should be looking at signing a new centre back this summer. Rio sems to be spend half his time sitting in the stands watching these days, and it's usually some niggly little thing like a back strain or calf strain or something. You compare him to John Terry who would gladly play with a broken leg if he needed to... I dunno, I just don't think we can rely on him for more than half a season anymore. Evans has done well for the most part but he's not there yet, and he's had a few wobbly performances recently.

I wish we hadn't let Pique go...

There will definately be violence. The Italian Ultras will have been waiting for ages to bash some English. The Italian police are a joke, and cause as many problems as they solve.

When was the last time we any English team went to Rome and there wasn't any trouble?

Yeah, Evans is fine if one goes down, but we don't have a lot to offer appart from Big John if both Rio and Vida are out.

Any preferences out there?

Johnny Evans younger brother plays CM/CB for the reserves and is very highly regarded. There are persistent rumours of us signing young Brazilian center back Dodo although you wouldn't expect him to go straight into the team.

If we do sign a CB I would expect it to be a Lauren Blanc type signing, somebody with enough experience to just slot in when required and also help bring on the youth. Lets also not forget that Brown might be fit next season and he's perfectly good enough back up for the position.

I think if Brown is fit for next season he will slot back in at right back and alternate with Rafael. I can't see Neville lasting another season and we shouldn't expect Brown to be cover for two positions. If Rafael were to be injured for any period (which is likely) then we're down to the bare bones again with just one back up centre back.

Like you say though I think he could look to bring someone a bit older in as back up. Someone like Cannavaro maybe?

O'Shea can come in as needed. I'd be concerned about signing another experienced centre back, as they may upset the balance. For me, Ferdinand, Evans and Vidic will all probably be around for the next five years, the last two probably for even longer. So we really don't need to worry about that position for a while. I mean, bring in some promising young talent, but not a player that SAF will play even if they don't fit in because he spent money on them.

Tevez applauded the crowd, then waved from the bench at he was taken off; perhaps he was waving his last goodbye to Old Trafford?

:o

*edit*

DONE. Hull game we'll presumably play a bunch of kids, preparing for the final. Awesome.
