The old Man Utd Thread

Really? Freeview has it, and I'm sure a mate of mine who's Sky subscription has lapsed has it. Give them a call and kick up a stink...

It's on 'Freesat From Sky', which is Freesat plus a few other channels if you have a Sky digibox (lapsed Sky sub etc).

I don't though, I have a Freesat HD box; so I pick up the basic Freesat channels which don't include any of the Sky channels.

To be fair, its still one point away. Arsenal can beat Man U on a good day, and Hull are playing for thier lives. It isn't champagne time yet.

I'd be too grumpy to be classily magnanimous when the champagne corks are popping and some people in here are rubbing it in and calling us all cunts. I can just about stomach it now, before the celebrations have properly started. If they somehow contrived to do a Devon Loch, then my Al Gore-style premature concession would make it all the sweeter.

Tevez has to stay, Berbatwat is really not in the same league to me. Yeah he can have his languid style but he's far too much of a luxury player even for us. Anyway well done and we can get the title at OT which according to 5Live will be only be the 2nd time apparently the title could be lifted after a OT matc during Fergies reign of terror.

Personally I think Berba has a great assist ratio.

Tevez's undoing is that he can't play the Berba role that Ferguson likes (Sheringham, Cantona before him) - and he's not got the flexibility of the other forwards (Rooney, Ronaldo) to really play anywhere else.

I think Ferguson will ship him out and look for a more regular goal scorer in his place.

This.

We've won nothing yet and on a good day Arsenal can make life very difficult and easily capable of getting a result at OT if we're not at our best.

I don't think you'll find much rubbing in and name calling. If we do win the league then we'll only have respect for your lot for pushing us so far. Not often does the Premiership go down to the last few games of the season and even though there was an air of ignorance around Liverpool being good enough to win the title, they've certainly proven that to be wrong.

Except for when dogsout shows his face. I will rub it in like DOG SHIT ON A CARPET.

I don't understand why Berbatov gets so much stick.

He is pure class and fantastic at holding the ball up. Plus if you look at the stats it's clear why Ferguson rates him. Watching the game last night I felt he tracked back almost too much.

Tevez is a good player but I'm not sure he's worth another 22 million, I feel United could spend that money better. I'm not sure Tevez is willing to play the squad player that United players have to accept.

Agreed - I have to watch football videos at work - full matches and highlights - and most of it seems to be of Man Utd for some reason. Berbatov just plays beautiful football. It doesn't matter that he isn't covered in sweat at the end of the match - the amount of stuff he creates with one flick or cross is astonishing - and always a joy to watch :)

Dimitar Berbatov is fantastic in my opinion!

The one criticism I have, is he's played far too deep for us at times, he was never that deep when at Spurs but I can only imagine that Sir Alex wants him to play that way. I'd like him further forward where he can do his magic in more dangerous areas and have more shots at goal!

He is brilliant though! :)

Before he came in I remember all the talk about buying a proper up top striker and how he was the one, then we've seemingly converted him to play deeper, something that all our strikers seem to like

I agree Oli, it is a bit bizzare the way its worked out for Berbatov. Whenever you hear Fergie talk about him, he always mentions that he's a fantastic link man. So it must be the way he wants him to play.

Yeah I get the impression its how Fergie wants to play him too but still it's weird given how much talk there was of bringing in a target man/up top striker.

He was decent, had a very very good chance in the 2nd minute when he robbed Evans of the ball. I think he's a good player, not sure how true the rumors are for us getting him, or if we need him for that matter.

There was a load of stuff about him turning dow Madrid at Christmas, that suggests to me he has a massive move to another Premiership club already lined up.

Do we need him? I'd say yes, well a winger who has the capability to play on the left as well as right. Don't trust Nani, Park is brilliant but not necessarily in every kind of game and Giggs obviously is no longer a winger. He's proven he's effective in the Premiership and seems to be more consistently productive than the likes of Lennon and Young, but I'm not sure he's quite special enough for Utd.

Where he's from and subsequent travel for World Cup games is a concern though.

Valencia is one of the best wingers in the league so on that alone he would be a worthwhile purchase. Quick, strong, tracks back and experience of the league would make him an excellent addition but with Ferguson saying that he wants Nani to stay I really can’t see us going for another winger unless he has Ronaldo penned in for a centre forwards role next season. Tosic is coming on well in the reserves and we’ve got Ljajic joining us in January who can play across midfield.

I’d be happy to see him come but unless someone leaves I don’t see it happening.

Yeah, I was working on the basis that we'd recoup around £10M+ for Nani and use that for the bulk of the Valencia purchase which I guess would be around 15? That'd give Tosic time to develop and would be a minimal expenditure considering the improvement he'd be over Nani. I mean it's all Football Manager nonsense but if Sunderland paid £8M for Lord Snooty then we should at least aim for £10 with him.

You got a link to what fergus said, Phresh? After his disgusting performance in Porto I thought his time was up personally, his lack of appearances post that backing it up.

I'll happily stand corrected about Berbatov, i'd like nothing better than to see him become the next Sheringham, hes shown what a fantastic player he can be buthe's just a player that does it enough for me.
