The old Man Utd Thread

So is the consensus that Tevez's goal was a brilliant piece of skill, rather than a fluke? It was impossible to tell from my 3fps Spanish stream (well I think it was Spanish; confusingly there was a Turkish flag in the corner of the screen. Although I did enjoy the little theme tunes they played after the goals, such as the commentator singing "Michael Carrick" to the tune of Pretty Woman when he scored).

Nah, it was a fantastic piece of skill.

Tevez has to stay, Berbatwat is really not in the same league to me. Yeah he can have his languid style but he's far too much of a luxury player even for us. Anyway well done and we can get the title at OT which according to 5Live will be only be the 2nd time apparently the title could be lifted after a OT matc during Fergies reign of terror.

As soon a I saw the weather and a 3 man midfield up against Scholes Ijust knew it was going to be tough. Fair play to Wigan though, anybody who said that Bruce was just going to bend over can take it back! Bringing Tevez on just meant we had an extra man up front and their midfield was clearly out on it's legs. Couple of brilliant finshes for the goals. I'm sure Styles will get loads of stick for not giving us a penalty...oh wait, no, bad decisions only count when they go for us. Reffed the match consistently, which is all you can ask for really.

Awesome, this is going to be the sweetest title for quite some time for me. The sheer aggressiveness and bitterness of the Scouse fans over the past few months has been intensely irritating. Another trophyless season for them and the loss of their precious record they can no longer drag up to mask their crap domestic record for the best part of two decades.

:)

Two quality goals tonight and not much else, but who cares at this stage of the season? A point against Arsenal and a ten day break to prepare for the Champions League final awaits after a party at Old Trafford. Fingers crossed.

Nah, it's been good fun.

Good win. Hard earned, probably harsh on Wigan they gave us some real scares. Can't wait for Saturday, I'll be in the Blaze if anyone fancies it.

My take on the Berbatov/Tevez/Ronaldo stuff.

I don't know why everyone's so pessimistic about Ronaldo staying. Since last summer it's not ever been a concern for me. He's said time and time again he WANTS to stay, and when people have been on his back for some lacklustre (!!!) performances this season he's told you all (me included) to fuck off with some exceptional ones in recent weeks. He destroyed Arsenal on his own. He'll be here next season.

Berbatov, before about 3 weeks ago, was the laziest player ever to wear our shirt. Recently I've been so impressed with his work rate; he drops deep to collect the ball, tracks back when needed (he's a centre forward, not Wayne Rooney so shouldn't be doing so every time there's a break) and his touch, vision and sheer class shines through every time he plays. I've voiced my own frustrations about how he slows down play but I think we've nailed it with Rooney playing wide left and cutting inside, he looks very dangerous in that position. He's had a decent enough first season and I've now climbed off his back and am a fan.

Tevez. I think we should keep him. Wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't, but I think he adds a great energy to the side. What worries me is that it's mostly his substitute appearances that invigorate us, which we know isn't a role he wants. There's only so many times a man can be complimented on his work rate, and the truth is his all round game lacks polish. But when Berbs, Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez are all on, as they have been a few games recently, fuck me is it exciting. Let's sign him up (if only to stop him going to Anfield!).

Jesus, I'm a wreck after that! Right from the first few minutes when Valencia went through and should have scored it was obvious it was going to be hard work tonight, the weather was atrocious, and their fans were well up for it. I thought Rob Stiles tried to let a lot go (probably due to the conditions) but they were very physical and also we were unlucky with a couple of offsides first half.

The liverpool thread has people moaning about us playing shit apart from a short spell where we pulled it back, but I thought we played well for the most part and really cut them open three or four times in the first half alone. Rooney's header and then his shot from the left side after a lovely bit of interplay, and Carrrick's miss were three clear cut opportunities.

Fair play to Wigan though, they really gave us a game and Steve Bruce has done no harm to his chances of maybe being United manager one day.

When Carrick scored I actually had a tear in my eye, it was a manly 'Carrick you fucking beauty' tear though so they're allowed... :)

Also I thought Berbatov was brilliant tonight. The amount of times he picked the ball up with his back to goal and effortlessly turned away from players was a joy to watch. He linked up well with Rooney and Ronaldo, and later on Tevez, and he seems to be finally getting to full fitness and hitting some real form. It'll be great to see him next season after a (hopefully) injury and transfer saga free pre-season.

Anyway, one point left, IF Liverpool win all their games which will not be easy especially West Brom away, but hopefully we can finish it off on Saturday against Arsenal.

Never mind the players, I need a fucking break after this season.

Would've been slightly harsh if it was given to be fair. Never a dive, unless he's been taking 'How To Fall Convincingly 101', but Styles didn't book him so probably just judged it as a coming together.

I suppose it was just a coming together, but it kinda helpped that the defenderaimed for Ronaldo and he did trip him. There'd have been uproar if it had been given though. STyles loves Man Utd etc etc

Completely agree with all that. F365 have got some quotes from Ferguson saying they want Tevez to stay and have had meetings and what not.

That wasnt a penalty?

Well, Figeuroa (sp?) knocked him off the ball without any intention of going for it. Stupid thing is if Ronaldo goes down he probably gets the penalty.

If you miss the game live, where's the best place to catch the highlights online? Are there no users on YouTube that put them up?

Do they eventually appear on BBC Sport?

So, Saturday then!

Current plan is 9am Wetherspoons breakfast, arrive at the Bishop's Blaze about 10.30am, watch us be crowned champions by 3pm, then celebrating on Deansgate until they throw us out.

Cannot fucking wait!

Fergie also said that some of the problem regarding the Tevez deal is that they're not dealing with another club. Seems like they're trying to get it sorted at least.

Yeah. Fergie's just been on Sky Sports News saying that he's spoken to Carlos and David Gill's been chatting to Kia Scoobydoo (Tevez's agent).

Kia has also been on SSN saying that no offer has been tabled.

Joorabchin's a twat though, he probably thinks if Man U refuse to deal then he can get more from City.

Yeh I have SSN, I'm just not subscribed to Sky Sports at the minute.

I just wanted to know for if ever I'm away from the TV. The YouTube links were posted above courtesy of Rockboy anyway.

It's not on Freesat :)

Really? Freeview has it, and I'm sure a mate of mine who's Sky subscription has lapsed has it. Give them a call and kick up a stink...

Ach. I was going to wait to be magnanimous through gritted teeth until it was mathematically decided, but I'd only be kidding myself. Well done. You've not been amazing, but you've kept winning when you needed to, when you had plenty of opportunities to blow it, and that's not (only) down to luck, it's about character and application and talent. :)

I've really enjoyed us making a contest of it for the first time in recent memory, and look forward to really sticking it to you bastards next season.
