Another thing I almost got right was when I said UEFA would do a u-turn and change the rules with regards to rescinding red cards should Messi get sent off last night. I just got the player wrong. 24 hours after saying there's no cause for appeal on behalf of Fletcher, there suddenly is after the same thing happens to a Barca player.

Yeah, I was just gonna say. Telling United they might be able to get Fletcher's card rescinded after all is clearly just a smokescreen to let Barca know they're free to launch an appeal for Abidal's, while they laugh Fletcher out of court. Obviously.

Just checked it up apparently only Alves and Busquets were at threat of suspension. Iniesta will be playing.

he would have been certain to start against chelsea, not barca. as SAF said other night "it depends who we are playing" Fletcher wouldnt be needed against barca as they arent strong enough anyways and a giggs/scholes - carrick - anderson midfield will be enough to sort them out. i reckon it will be a similar line up to old trafford last season. (someone will find fletcher in the starting 11 lol)

SAF would def have played him against Chelsea, just not sure about barca. maybe we will find out

Did he say that implying not against Barca, then? I'd have thought the opposite with Chelsea showing today how effective harassing them with epic central midfield players stopping Messi cut inside and Xavi and Iniesta playing through balls is at stopping the whole team play. Yeah, you don't want Chelsea to overrun you, but you wouldn't be as particularly scared that they'll pass you to death given an inch of space, either. I dunno, you can see it either way, but remember how good Park was over the two legs last year on the left doing just that - I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie had a similar role earmarked for Fletcher, especially looking at his performances against Arsenal, who of course play a similar style to Barca.

I think it would have been the other way round. Fletcher would have been perfect against Barca, harrying Xavi and Iniesta in midfield wheras I don’t think he would be as effective against the slower midfield of Chelsea (Where I think Giggs/Anderson/Carrick would be more effective).

Taking into account Barca struggled against Malouda they will have problems with Rooney, although until we know who will play in defence for them it’s difficult to say. Ronaldo should have a field day through the middle whoever they play though.

We are starting to look confident again and playing some decent football in spells so I’m confident we’ll get a win this weekend leaving us needing just 4 points from 3 games, assuming of course that Liverpool don’t drop any in what will be their toughest game of the run in at West Ham. Would be nice if we could sow the title up before the last day of the season so we can rest players for the CL Final.

Interesting fact on f365 last weekend and that was we have dropped only 2 points against teams in the bottom half of the table (as of last weekend) and that was on the first day of the season against Newcastle.
