The old Man Utd Thread

You know you're the only Man U fan that posts sensibly, and although I rarely agree with Bowser, he actually tries to back his points up with some kind of facts.

Now to your point. I am, as I've said before a QPR fan, however I am also a football fan, and for this season, Liverpool have displayed all the qualities and traits of the ideal football club, with the brand of football they've played, the way they've conducted themselves on and off the pitch, and not every game, but most games, the way the fans inspire their team. They have a manager with the right ethos, tactical genius, and morals. They win, lose or draw as a team, not mainly relying on one particular cunt who doesn't really want to be there.

So to cut a long story short, Liverpool have been by far the best team in the league this season as far as performances go, so yes if Utd win the league the best team will have lost. Considering they smacked you twice this year, smashing you in your own back yard, then the statement pretty much writes itself doesn't it.

To save stinking the Liverpool thread out when he's apparently not a Liverpool fan i'll post a reply here.

Liverpool have played great football for a shade over 6/7 weeks, managed to gain around 4 points on United and been knocked out of the CL and FA Cup. Very impressive! Nobody would deny they've played great football at times this season but for the rest of it they've been indifferent like the rest of the top 4. No team ever deserves to win anything (unless they are completely cheated, which i'm sure some Liverpool fans will claim). Villa have played some very good football earlier this season, do they deserve anything? Arsenal have had arguably the most exciting games of the season do they deserve it? It will always be the best team that wins the league, that is exactly what Chelsea where under Mourinho and if United win it this year it will be because they had the best team. Maybe not the best starting eleven and maybe not the best performances but over the course of the season they will have been the best team.

Your last sentence is utter fucking football stupidity in it's highest form though, by that account Gareth Southgate is better than both as he beat Liverpool who beat United! Yeah ! Its the retarded victory merry go round!

FATEone has being talking a load of shit since I first noticed him posting. It's like he can shield himself with 'bu bu but I'm a QPR fan' to give the impression of being a neutral while he slags off Utd and suck Liverpool's cock all the time. If Liverpool had been banging in the goals all season then fair enough but they haven't, yet a period of playing well and suddenly they think they can claim some sort of superiority in terms of their performances and their 'brand of football', forgetting all the games they've ground stuff out under Benitez.

We've also had far less reliance on Ronaldo this year than last in terms of his contribution but we can all play the 'where would you be without Torres, Gerrard, Drogba, Fabregas' card til we're blue in the face, it doesn't prove anything. Saying Liverpool win lose or draw as a team, with the implication that we somehow don't, is just utter nonsense but I would expect nothing less from him.

Chelsea won the league- twice in a row- whilst not playing particularly attractive but effective football. United won it last year by playing superlative, incredibly fantastic football. Now we're relying on our defence to get 1-0 wins, but at least last season shows we're trying. If you win games, but you don't play that well, why is that somehow 'cheating'? Isn't that how you win a league, by getting the win even on your off days?

Quite frankly, if you've got the biggest points total at the end of a season, that's the only fair measure of who's been best.

I seriously wouldn't bother replying to him. He's quite clearly a Liverpool fan, and a deluded one at that. I'm not the only one to come to this conclusion in recent weeks/months.

Whoever wins the league, will deserve it. Yes, even Manchester Untied.

Barkbat; I think the reason he doesn't shoot nearer the goal because he's eager to score. I think once he gets a goal (which will no doubt be off his arse!) it should settle him down. I genuinely don't think its a lack if ability in the shooting department, he's more than capable of striking the ball cleanly.

This is like that season a few years ago (I think it might have been 2002/03) where Man Utd were second for most of the season but gradually reeled in Arsenal to win the league, and all Wenger could say at the end of it was "but we were top of the league for most of the season – we deserved to win it."

Seen the Guardian this morning?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/ma...-premier-league

Carlos Tevez has admitted that he is likely to leave Old Trafford for a Spanish club at the end of the season after seeing his gut-busting efforts fail to cement him a regular place in the Manchester United attack.

The 25-year-old striker has made only 16 starts for United this season and scored just three goals. He believes his poor return is down to his staccato run in the team having often been overlooked for Dimitar Berbatov, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

"I've spent a lot of time on the bench and I'd like to play more. But every time I'm given a chance I do all I can to take full advantage," he told Madrid radio station Cadena COPE. "It's true, I see myself more leaving United, than staying here. I don't see why I should lie to people or anything because the fans support me a lot as you can see. So I don't have any reason to lie to them. I need continuity in the team to offer my best. If this doesn't happen I believe this will be my last year."

Tevez received a standing ovation from the Manchester United supporters who have been vocal in their appreciation of the Argentinian's indefatigable approach to every match since he joined the club in a convoluted £10m loan deal in 2007.

Those supporters need no convincing as to Tevez's commitment but he was quick to make clear that any desire he has to leave Old Trafford is born of a frustration at being left on the bench rather than any lack of desire. "While I wear the United shirt I will leave my life on the pitch. You can see that in every game I play. I respect people a lot and I am grateful to them," he said. "My future? I would like to go to Spain, yes, but I don't know yet. I have no preference for a team. We'll see."

His decision to air his frustration on a Madrid radio station may hint at the striker's preferred destination, but with Liverpool rumoured to be interested in Tevez, who is still owned by a third party not Manchester United, the Spanish flavour at Anfield may prove a tempting alternative.

I'm a bit disappointed in him to be perfectly honest. There is a discussion over on the Caf about this very subject.

He's going about it the wrong way, every week they seems to be an interview about his future with him complaining about the lack of football. Well, he started in the biggest game of our season on Wednesday and was subbed (rightly in my opinion, he looked knackered) and still, it would seem isn't happy.

Now I know these interviews can get twisted, but why doesn't he just say 'no comment' or saying he's not thinking about it and his sole concern is to win trophies and then sort out his future at the end of the season. I know its a cliche but I'd much prefer than that then the things I'm reading at the moment.

I've got no problem with him saying that, at least he's honest which is more than can be said of most footballers. As the season as gone on I do find myself more indifferent to his performances though, he just hasn't had the 'x' factor this season. I'd still like to see him stay for at least one more season but if it means we but Benzema instead........

I'd like him to stay, I really would. I'm just not convinced he can be part of the squad game. Everytime he's left out or subbed is he going to complain?

Its all very well being honest, but I'd rather he dodge those type of questions at this moment in time. We don't need any distractions with the run in we have. He just work hard, take his chances when he gets them then worry about his contract come the end of the season in my opinion.

Positive News!

Ferdinand boost for United

United boss confirms that Ferdinand could be fit for second leg

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Rio Ferdinand has not cracked a rib and could be available for the second leg of Manchester United's UEFA Champions League semi-final against Arsenal.

The 30-year-old was forced off against the Gunners in the closing stages after colliding with his own goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

The England international was immediately rushed off for scans with fears that he could be out for up to three weeks.

But X-rays have revealed that the defender has not suffered a broken rib and, although he will miss the trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday, he could return on Tuesday against the Gunners.

The news is a massive boost for the Red Devils as they look to defend a slender 1-0 lead at Emirates Stadium next week.

"It's good news with Rio," the United boss said.

Bruising to the lung

"It is not a cracked bone, he had a bit of bruising on the lung which was why he was coughing up blood but there has been nothing since then.

"Hopefully we can get him ready for Tuesday, he seems almost back to normal. But he won't play tomorrow."

Ferguson had initially voiced his concerns over Ferdinand after seeing the centre-half at the end of the game but now has his sights on getting his charge back into training as soon as possible.

"Of course when you see it at the time you fear the worst but now it is just a case of getting him back training, hopefully on Sunday, and getting him ready for Tuesday," he added.

Tevez saying he feels he has to leave in the summer now is far more preferable to Ronaldo messing around with the supporters all summer long. He simply isn't worth £30m when Sir Alex has already overspent so wildly on Berbatov. I'll be disappointed if he has to go, but Benzema at the same asking price would be the better option for me.

I think what he means is, he started supporting Liverpool in the Eighties when they were good, has since reverted to supporting his home team of QPR but is still happy to pledge allegiance to Liverpool when there's a sniff of glory or bragging rights.

Liverpool have been the more entertaining team in this run-in, for sure, but only in the same way that Kevin Keegan's Newcastle were more entertaining in '96 for all the wrong reasons.

Whats the source?

I've seen him quoted at least a couple of times over the past year that he said he wouldn't leave if Lyon could get into the Champions League Semi final this year. Obv that didn't happen, and it looks like they may even struggle to qualify for it next year at all.

He also been touted as going to Real Madrid too, which seems more likely.

Its a good point. Thing is, concenring France strikers, there ain't a whole lot of choice there otherwise. I don't think it would effect his chances too much by going to a Real, United type club personally.

I'd still rather keep Tevez tbh if it is true personally.

BBC says that united are after Aaron Lennon, please God no!

We have enough skillful little tykes with zero end product

I hope that's no where near true, if we were desperate for an English player then I would much rather it be Ashley Young than Knobhead Lennon

Is that the knobhead Lennon who absolutely skinned Evra for two games this season? He's only young and his end product is getting better. He's already proved that hes a good player. He's only just gone 22 aswell and is still learning. I'm not saying Utd should buy him mind.

He's a great player, but he is an awful finisher and you'd miss the goals from the position if the rumour was true (that he was going to be Ronaldo's relacement).

The rumour originated from the Express though, so I'd not be to worried. Plus Harry wouldn't sell him.

Ashley Young is still far, far better.

Agreed on Young, although he plays on the left rather than the right.

The story is from the Daily Express. Nuff said.

I imagine the daily work flow at these papers involves reading in a gossip collum somewhere else who is supposed to be leaving a team, and then they write the first player that comes to mind in that position at another club is wanted as a replacement.

If Ronaldo goes, we need someone with some goals in them, not just shortness and speed. Ribery is who I would want, although i'm not sure we'd get him.
