The old Man Utd Thread

A great Manu team would have two main partnerships in attack. Just because Rooney and Berbatov don't gel, it doesn't mean Berbatov is somehow useless to us. I personally feel ronaldo won't be there next season, and it might be that whoever replaces him will be the missing link. If Macheda gets a first team place, he might well fuse better with Berba than Rooney.

From the other thread, but it's more relevant here.

I have no idea why every Liverpool fan thinks the City game will be a problem. I'm not saying it won't be but they've been gash away from home all season, have nothing to play for in the league and have a really poor defence. Boro, Spurs and Arsenal fair enough, based on form/results they should be tougher games.

Probably because it's a derby which means a performance in a million from them and a load of fight that's been absent all season maybe. You must surely have seen enough derbies to know that form is irrelevant in these things? It's not their cup final for nothing you know.

The one thing that's damn handy there's a big gap between the Arsenal second leg and that game, plus the fact that whilst it's a European away it's not really in the sense we won't leave the country and consequently have the same issues a post European away would normally bring.

What I would say though is for the exact same reasons Boro away won't be easy, neither will Hull nor maybe even Newcastle for them if either club wants to stay up, WHU away is tricky, the arguments they make for Spurs will surely apply to them...

Re: Berbatov, I personally am not keen and wasn't exactly thrilled when he actually signed. That said there's a massive focus made on having a good pre-season and how it can catapult you towards a good start, which in turn builds momentum to form that lasts all season. He obviously didn't have that this year through his own actions, I'd say he really needs to be judged next year when he's had that pre season, had time to settle down and build up a bit of a game with his team mates.

Am I reading that wrong or are you advocating the clubs best player, Rooney, not getting a game or permanently playing him out of position?

If Tevez leaves, then the trio will have been broken up! Which would be too sad for words.

;)

I was just thinking that....

They better fucking offer him a contract. :)

Do you think there is a chance they are trying lower his value? Guess there would be a set fee agreed in the first place.

Seems a shame to let him leave over money, but if he wants more games I guess it makes sense. Can't understand why hes not starting more realy.... ;)

From the other thread, but it's more relevant here.

And as I just posted in the other thread the previous game this season gave no indication that this will be the case. And that was before City's defence started falling apart at the centre.

If it turns out to be a really hard contested game with City going all out then I will quite happily admit I was wrong. If i'm not wrong though I expect you guys to admit I was right :)

Anderson is great isn't he? He's been poor this season if I'm honest but in the last 3 games or so he seems to be finding last years form. His energy yesterday was brilliant, especially seeing as he played 120 minutes on Sunday. He obviously tired in the second half but that is to be expected. In this kind of form I'd be playing every game I can!

His passing can be erratic at times, but when he plays as the furthest forward in a 3 man midfield I don't think it doesn't matters that much. He's always looking for incisive, penetrating passes and thats always good to see. Even if some of them go wayward.

Re: Berbatov, he's just not in form at the moment I don't think. He showed earlier this season what he's capable off, he had a period in tandem with Rooney where they looked to be forging a good partnership with both of them getting on the scoresheet fairly regular and also creating chances for others. Unfortunately since then either Rooney or Berbatov have been missing or coming back from injury.

I'm also convinced that Berbatov haven't settled in yet, for whatever reason. He's played so deep for us this year, and in recent weeks seems to be playing even deeper than normal. I'd like to see him play further forward if I'm honest and become a bit more selfish, like he did at Spurs. I was watching a compilation of Berbatov's goals while at Spurs the other day and he's in good positions in the box and getting onto crosses and passes in and around the box.

I'm confident he'll find his place within the team, he's just too good of a player for him not too.

He's started 31 games and made 13 appearances from the bench. Compare that to Rooneys 32 (9) and Berbatovs 31 (4). He's had plenty of games really, he just hasn't played very well this season unfortunately. Which is why people question if he's worth the reported £20M-£30M fee.

I think Anderson suffered from having a busy season last year and then playing in the Olympics too. He has had a few niggling injuries too. As you say though, his energy has been a real bonus to the midfield in the last few games. He had a lot more freedom yesterday than I saw in the previous couple of games and he really seemed to benefit from it. Yeah, the odd pass goes astray but when you see the pass that lead to the first goal it really doesn't matter!

Totally agree, my comment wasn't meant to be harsh, although it does come across that way.

They aren't the games that are going to keep him wanting to stay at the club are they? I think hes obviously unhappy at not starting important games. On the other hand, i guess there is a reason for that.

I like Berbatov, but if he is worth £30 million then Tevez is any day. Tevez is worth five Berbatovs. IMO

Maybe not, but then he's not a better player either Rooney or Berbatov. By quite a distance in my humble opinion. He just doesn't have the composure or quality that Rooney and Berbatov have.

He's a lovable character to have in your team, he's one who'll work his balls off from the first minute right until the last minute but you do need more than that to be a striker for Man Utd in my opinion. And this season, in the attacking sense I think he's been poor far too often. He's had plenty of opportunities to stake a claim for a starting place and he just hasn't taken them.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we sealed the deal and he remained a Utd player either, I just think we have the opportunity to get a different kind of striker should we decide not to buy Tevez. Someone who is different to Rooney and Berbatov and in doing so it would balance our attacking options.

Plus we've got Rafael too!

tevez has 23 league appearances and 3 goals - he has been SHIT this year. And if thats because of the uncertainty of the contract then he is a weak minded baby that we dont need. With Welbeck, Cambell, Macieda all rearing to go it does not even matter if he goes.

It does matter to Park and Evra
