The old Man Utd Thread

Team played well and looked like a team again, with good games from the whole lot of them.

Yet all people want to do is talk about Ronaldo leaving. Even though absolutely nothing has changed. To quote the manager, it's pathetic.

Seriously, Rooney ran his heart out and had a perfect performance for what he was told to do. Discipline, effort and a threat going forward. No surprise though, he's the only one whose looked and played like a Manchester player of late, Macheda aside. Playing him there was worthy of mention and praise, especially after I blamed the manager for last week.

Carrick and particularly Anderson were impressive, Ronaldo scored a peach and looked constantly threatening. Hell, he even closed the keeper down and won a corner. Back 4 was steady and assured and back to how it's been for 90% of the season, goalkeeper looked more comfortable one flap aside. Giggs linked well and later on did well as the striker, similar sort of job from Berbatov.

Loads in there to build on, yet it's about Ronaldo and some imaginary look on the managers face :/

We played so much better than last week, we actually all looked like a team who wanted to win.

Disagree. There was no issue with the desire or fight last week, the issue was nervy play, exacberated by the midfield being unable to pass, hold the ball or offer any sort of protection to an already injured/ makeshift/ edgy backline.

Rio's presence and marshalling of the back-line was invaluable yesterday I felt, we looked like the team around Christmas when we wasn't conceeding goals.

Carrick got caught a few times, but on the whole, a decent performance I felt and what a goal from Ronnie too!

Ando put in a good service as well I thought, be interesting to see the type of player he emerges into in a couple seasons.

I tell you what though, Scholes is absolutely terrible at the moment. He can't seem to keep the ball and he passes it to the opposition far too often. He was shite when he came on last night.

Agree with everything here.

As good as he is at what he does, if the figures being quoted are anywhere near realistic, then it would be just stupid not to cash in and bring in one or two players who can be just as effective, like Ribery for instance.
I was just about to ask what people would think if it was a case of Ronnie out Ribery in. Might have to fight Barca for him though.

I've been thinking this for a while now, watching Ribery, he very much seems like our kind of player. I realy don't think he'll come here though if Barca go in for him. Maybe we could sell Ronaldo to Barca instead? ^_^

Would be great to get one over on Real.

But hes ours at the moment, so as long as he keeprs playing like he wants to be here then i'm happy.

There's plenty of other clubs in sunnier, more fashionable locations than Manchester that might want him, though.

If the special one manages to keep his job in spite of only securing Serie A, I could see Ronaldo going there. They exchanged a couple of chatty words after the CL games, which looked a little friendlier than I'd have expected.

Agree that he'd maybe not want to head for Real given they're looking slightly under-par by their standards.

As long as he does the business from now until we've won the quintuple, i'll be happy to thank him and wave him off.

Not sure if Inter could afford the price tag, especially with Limited success in the CL. There are pretty much only two clubs who can afford him, Real and Man City and lets be honest he would only move to one of those.

If Ronaldo were to leave then Ribery would be a great replacement but until the former happens i'm not going to worry about it.

After last nights performance and the boost it will give i'm a far more confident of winning the league. Liverpool are rapidly running out of games to overtake us and have a difficult game with Arsenal this weekend. There is still time for us to cock it all up of course but the chances of doing so do seem to be dwindling.

You write for the Sun per chance?

Although Liverpool are lucky to be playing Arsenal 3 days after they face Chelsea in the FA Cup. And after Liverpool have had the weekend off.

But that's not what I came in here to talk about. What I came in here to talk about is Looking for Eric, which is clearly going to be amazing.

Was just about to post that. Wasn't Sir Alex just saying it's funny that Benitez talks about him before matches, now he's doing the same. Much as I got a pop out of what he's said, it's a bit hypocritical.

I expect their game plan will be Cahill playing off Fellaini, the hoof up to Fellaini providing opportunities for a quick break. On the defence, two flat banks of four and the aforementioned two players chasing at the front. Should be pretty difficult to break them down, they will be capable of soaking up a lot of what we give them and on the break they'll be a threat. Saha will come on late if they're struggling, regardless of his fitness I would think. They could bring on some kid instead but I doubt it.

Yes, it is ridiculous that Ferguson made his "I didn't know I was so important, I thought they were playing Chelsea etc" comments and then says this.

Unconfirmed starting line-up:

Foster. Fabio and Rafael play together at last! Alongside Rio and Vidic.

Wellbeck on the right, Gibson and Anderson in the middle, Park on the left. Tevez and Macheda up front.
