...how many clear cut chances were Villa afforded despite their superior play at times?

I think Villa shot themselves in the foot in that respect by making bad descisions when in promising positions in the final third - Young being a particular offender.

There was also that outrageous offside call in your favour, too. The one where Young (I think) would've been one-on-one with van Der Sar.

Once you get your first-choice central pairing back, you'll be alright, though. :P

There was two instances I think where Young and Gabby skinned Gaz and we're both clearly onside, but the assistant ref flagged incorrectly.

I'm thinking having Berbatov out for a couple weeks might work as a blessing in disguise, since we attack at pace when he's not in the side.

I'm thinking Nani isn't progressing as anyone would have liked - I get the feeling its possible he could be on his way at the end of the season?

Give him a chance, he hasn't been here for two years yet and played a total of about 75 games (roughly speaking).

Some players take longer to develop. Look at Fletcher, he was very average for a long time yet we gave him a chance and he's come through to be one of the most important midfielders for us in the last 12 months. He's clearly got the ability to succeed, its just a case of harnessing that ability.

He wasn't particularly poor yesterday I didn't think either, he looked like he might create something and he threw some half decent crosses/freekicks in. Unfortunately for him he was on the pitch when the teams confidence and belief were shot to pieces, I like him as a player, I really do - as frustrating as he can be at times.

Bleeders; Having Berbatov is anything but a blessing, disguised or otherwise. We attack with pace regardless if he plays or not, as the player he replaces is Tevez and he's neither fast at running or at releasing the ball.

I think I just find Nani to be very very frustrating, he's exceptionally wasteful

He can be wasteful, but wingers by their very nature usually are.

He's not figured a lot this season so it's been difficult for him, he was great last year though and as shown us glimpses of what he's capable of.

The wings at present seem a bit short, we've got Ronaldo, Nani and Park as 'established' wingers (given Giggs' more central role of late). It just feels a bit lightweight - Park is great but isn't really the kind of player to produce something sublime and game winning, and Nani is unpredictable. I'm really looking forward to Hargreaves coming back next season as I thought he was tremendous when he played on the right side for us

I agree, although I do rate Park very highly. I think he's often a threat (although he does at times lack a bit of composure when it matters) when played on the left with Evra. Park ability to run for ever often give Evra a lot more license to get forward. Really balances the team when Park plays me thinks.

I am looking forward to Hargreaves coming back though, hopefully he'll be able to come back stronger.

Anderson got sold to AC Milan for £50 million on FM 2007

I've kept him in my team. I sold Anderson to West Ham for £25 million.

At one point I had this midfield line up

Nani - Messi - Aquilani - Ronaldo.

Got Messi for 38 million due to a release clause. Sold him back to Barca the following season for £70 million and got rid of Ronaldo for £70 million as well. Only sold Ronaldo since I had a regen who was just as good as him.

Footie would be amazing if it was like FM. ;)

I know, despite having a great mid season he's gone back to being completely shite. DUmp him, get Foster in there.

I hope Foster has a good run, I think he's showed massive promise. Lets have another 'supposed next England keeper' that goes to waste and turns out to be a damp squib - hello Gary Walsh

Whats to waste? Hes got a good 15 years ahead of him, if hes better then VDS then he should play, but it looks like the big dutchmen has still got something to give, or else Fergie wouldn't play him. Foster has plenty of time, and he knows it.

Now that hes fit, he perminatntly #2 goalie again. I look forward to him hopefully becoming a world class goal keeper for us and England, god knows we need one.

I doubt he will, he was only ever suppossed to be Foster's interim replacement while he went on loan. He maintained #2 spot recently only by virtue of the fact Foster has had ongoing fitness and back problems. Hopefully if Foster remais fit he will start to share the #1 spot with VDS next season untill he retires, but I imagine SAF will decide to premote him as and when hes ready. Put it this way, I doubt we are going to be looking for a #1 keeper in the transfer market for a few years yet touch wood.

I'm very keen for Foster to take over, as much as from wanting a good England keeper in a stable role as anything else, but I think VDS has still got a lot to give, and you can't buy experience like his. I know who i'd rather have in a Champions League final shoot out (ironically even though Foster won the last final for us that way).

Theres no rush for the club, just for the World Cup I suspect. It may be a few years early for him. But if he keeps working hard theres no reason he can't keep both roles for 10-15 years down the line, as is his youth.

We really have had some good goals from our youngsters this year, haven't we? As well as Macheda's, we had proper crackers from Rafael and Welbeck. Factor in the likes of Fabio and Evans and just imagine what it'll be like when this lot really come of age.
Just been looking at the goal of the season feature on The Site. Some real crackers.

Happily enough the my picks of the best ones all come from our teenage reserves: Wellbeck, Rafael and Macheda!

Macheda vs Aston Villa

I love how Macheda goes to his family in the stands after he scores. :D Amazing goal.

:)

I know who i'd rather have in a Champions League final shoot out

John O'Shea!

I think they're all fair comparisons, especially Nani/Richardson. Bundles of potential but just not going to get the games to show it, and frustrating when they do play. Speaking of Richardson, i really like him at Sunderland and think Capello should give him a look.

All Ronaldo did for the first two years at ManU was give the ball away/get tackled. That didn't work out too badly did it!?

With Ronaldo you always got the feeling that he was nearly brilliant. I just don't get that vibe off Nani. Remember we've got Tošić currently training with the squad as well.

Nani is the new Richardson

Tevez is the new Smith

Neville is the new Blanc

I reserve the right to withdraw these comments at a later date.

Nani is a much better footballer Richardson, Tevez is a much better footballer than Smith and I wouldn't right of Neville just yet!

Ronaldo is only about 9 months older than Nani though, I've heard a feel people saying Nani is only young and will learn, there seems to be some misconception that he's like 19-20

He is only 22 though and only been at Manchester United for just short of two years.

Bare in mind no player is the same in the way they develop as a footballer, some peak early and some peak late. I'm still confident that Nani can become a very good player for Utd - its just a case of having patience. He's got all the attributes to make it at the top level, the thing he's lacking is maturity and consistency which will undoubtedly come with age and playing time. The latter something which he's lacked this year for one reason or another.

Fletcher was the same (for me anyway), even I wrote him off in years gone by when he didn't seem to be progressing as a player at all, it looked like hit a brick wall in terms of progressing as a footballer, you could tell he had something to his game but didn't really show all that often. Look it him now though, he's been fantastic for us in the last 18 months or so and had some stand out performances in the big games in recent seasons.

Give the lad a chance.

Ah give him a break, hes not going to explode and kill half the team if we don't off-load him quick-sharp.

Our club is lucky enough of having the luxury of giving players time to improve.

Young people come in because Fergie and the scouts see raw potential, very few players come in a the finished article.

If he was wasn't useful, he wouldn't be here, Richardson, Smith and Blanc were all shipped out eventually (well, Blanc died of old age or something ) and he still may be, but have any of us realy seen enough of him this season to totally write him off?

What seems to be his biggest flaw to me as i've mentioned before is the fact that he doesn't seem to understant how to play for the team, more just himself. He needs to buddy up to Giggs, show him how to be a team player with all the skills.

This is something that may improve with age, hopefully.
