The old Man Utd Thread

Phil Dowd is a fucking disgrace. That was never dissent. Agressive, maybe, but he certainly threw the ball back so the free kick could be retaken. If the ball had been controlled and not gone straight past everyone, nothing would have happened. Completely ridiculous. The manner in which he was speaking to Ronaldo, Rooney and the others, red in the face bellowing in their ears as angrily as he could was disgusting. Fergie will receive a lifetime touchline ban if he speaks to the press after that joke.

Well, there is that. Taking the piss out of Ronaldo for showing the studmarks left on his leg isn't really a referee's place in the middle of a match, no matter how popular it might make him with Ronaldo haters.

It shows how piss poor the big 4 have been this season when we can not play particularly well, implode 2 games in a row and still be 4 points clear.

I'd be lying if I said I expected recent performances but I was always worried about how much we were relying on our defence to get us through endless 1-0s. Hopefully this break will do us good.

I had a feeling Fulham would shock us in the cup match, they've been good all season especially at home, but the manner of the loss is pretty annoying, two stupid sendings offs, there are going to be some broken hair appliances around the cottage tonight.

We're still in a strong position, we have the points and we have a game in hand. If Villa can do a bif favour and win or hold the Scousers we'll be good to go. Lets just hope Liverpool beating us last week will be the highlight of their year as we clean up.

In a way, things are finally getting interesting. Man U dominating everything is kind of boring. MotD is never going to be the same now.

I quite like this. Sooner or later, Man U are going to spring back frothing from the proverbial muzzle. Too much quality to not recover. Laugh it up now, cos some teams are going to get royally raped in the coming weeks once they're back on the rampage.

2 ways the scouse can go today... either they are super inspired by the utd win and go on to beat villa comfortably, or they are uncomfortable with not being the underdog and being expected to win and only manage a draw...

thats how i see it anyway

O'Neill may contest it so fingers crossed:

VILLA may consider appealing against the controversial sending off which threatens to end Brad Friedel’s proud Premier League record.

The former Liverpool keeper’s run of 182 consecutive top-flight games will come to a halt if yesterday’s Anfield red card is not rescinded.

Martin O’Neill believes Friedel was trying to avoid rather than upend Fernando Torres during the penalty incident midway through the second half. And Villa may pursue a wrongful dismissal claim to overturn referee Martin Atkinson’s decision to prevent Friedel missing Villa’s match at Manchester United.

If the veteran goalkeeper does serve a one-match ban Villa may be forced to ask the FA for special dispensation to recall Stuart Taylor from his loan at Cardiff.

Taylor would be required to act as an understudy to Brad Guzan at Old Trafford.

“I’ve seen the sending off again from a better angle than the one that I viewed it from in the first place,” said O’Neill.

“And from Brad’s viewpoint I don’t think he’s gone out and made a deliberate attempt to upend him.

“In fact quite the opposite. When Torres has touched the ball on Brad has realised that he’s not going to get it and he actually makes himself smaller. The fact is the referee has interpreted it as a penalty and obviously has added the sending off on top of that.”

Rooney lost it, before and after the red card. End of story, same old story. He's an amazing talent but also a complete liability.

He's an amazing talent but also a complete liability.

I wouldn't go that far, his worth to the team completely outweighs any damage his hot-headedness does, why else do you think the fans, players and especially Fergie puts up with it?

And in fairness (though I may be deluded) but having watched him every week he has improved over the last few years a lot, and I think whether or not you like SAF in general a lot of the credit has to go to him and Rooney himself of course.

Saturday is unfortunately an example of his bad side. :)

There aren't many players who have Rooney's drive and competativieness and aren't a little prone to going over the edge temper wise, every good club needs players that want to win as much as he does, no matter what, and I wouldn't swap Rooney for anyone else, warts and all.

I guess there are exceptions to this which prove the two factors aren't mutually exclusive, at United we have Giggs for example. But I can't think of many more good, consistant examples at any club in the modern game..

Brad Friedel has won his appeal to have the red card received against Liverpool rescinded.

Friedel was red-carded by Martin Atkinson after he felled Fernando Torres, although replays backed up the American’s suggestion that he physically could not have avoided contact with the Liverpool striker.

The presence of a covering Nigel Reo-Coker also made the dismissal dubious, and Aston Villa confirmed on their website that their appeal has been upheld.

“An FA panel today accepted Brad Friedel’s appeal over his dismissal at Anfield on Sunday,” a statement on Villa’s official website read.

Ironically, the decision is a massive boost to Liverpool, with Friedel now able to play against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Villa goalkeeper will also be able to build on his record of 182 consecutive appearances in the top flight.

I'm glad for him, it would have been realy unfair if that would be the thing to break his amazing streak.

Shame for us though, hes an ace keeper.

I thought it was harsh at first, but seeing it from the reversed angle it definately looks as if he deliberately fell into Torres, I'm surprised it's been overturned.

Can't imagine a time or place where it would ever be appropriate to post that - not even in the United thread.

I think it's great that we're even vaguely reigniting meaningful rivalries during this run-in (you may disagree that we’re even a threat, I know!), but please let’s not go this far because it will turn ugly.

Just rediscovered this document saved on my comp from defeat after the anfield match, probably appropriate to post now

Why scousers are the enemy...

Remember ALL of Anfield singing munich songs

Remember the Kop doing aeroplanes

Remember the Munich 58 banner on the Kop

Remember scousers slashing straight members and scarfers home AND away

Remember Main Road 85 & what was at stake

Remember that we stopped them doing the "Impossible" Treble

Remember ALL those flags mocking Munich at Heysel in '85

Remember 39 dead Italians and how they tried to blame everyone but themselves

Remember the bastards throwing CS Gas at our players at Anfield

Remember that utter UTTER cunt Kenney Dalglish

Remember Anfield 1992 & how you felt after Rush scored

Remember 3-3 in 1994 & how it felt like a defeat

Remember the cunt spitting on Eric as he went to lift The FA Cup

Remember Robbie Fowler and his four (now five) finger salute every time he scores against us

Remember that giant FC Bayern München flag at Anfield in 1999

Remember Paul Ince (and all of Anfield) thinking he had denied us the Title

Remember losing Five on the trot against them 2000-2002

Remember The BBC hailing the plastic treble as some sort of achievement

Remember them breaking the silence in honour of Georgie Best

Remember rick parry bleating on about the NY honours and Paisley & all that other shite, the fucking wanker!

Remember scousers complaining on 5Live that Sir Matt only got knighted because he survived the disaster

Remember Smiths ambulance & cups of shit at anfield

Remember how you felt on 25 May 2005

This post is a disgrace and the fact you keep it saved shows you to be a complete moron. It's 2009 and although not all Liverpool supporters are angels the majority have moved on from actions and songs regarding the Munich disaster etc. It's just the same as me regarding the average Man Utd fan is no longer singing Hillsborough songs.

You are a prize tool.

Its history... both munich and hillsborough songs can be heard at any utd-pool game

By a minority and surely less & less people every year are getting involved in this nonsense? I still can't believe you posted what you did.

I personally dislike that school of thought. It's hypocritical (96 wasn't enough songs), short sighted (I wasn't old enough to remember it but I was told Heysel really was there but for the grace of god, go I and it really could have been any English team), forgetful (mocks them for a flag yet we sing Liverpool every single game) and just thoroughly small time. Worst of all it revels in death.

It'd be miles more positive to remember that whilst the past two weeks have been shite, it's not the first time it's happened. 96-97, two weeks worth of results... Newcastle away, 5-0 loss, Southampton away 6-3 loss, Chelsea at home 2-1 loss, Fenerbace at home 1-0 loss. Two thumpings, the loss of a 2 year unbeaten home record and the first ever loss at home in Europe. How did that season end?

Look at this way; Scousers now have hope and belief it could be their year? It's bad enough that should we win the league they'll lose that proud 18 record; worse still with the League Cup win if we win the league they'll no longer be the most successful domestic English side. Just to rub it in, they really, really thought they had a chance of stopping it happening.

The whole reveling in death thing really is horrid, goes way beyond rivalry to just outright cuntishness. City showed they could rise above it, even if it was only for one game... I just wish some of our fans could
