The old Man Utd Thread

Nah, just hassled and harried and eventually made some mistakes - it happens.

This is true.

I feel for Vidic , he's a solid player and today was a bad day for him and a great day for his opponents. We should all expect a ribbing from the Liverpool fans considering the scoreline.

The title should still be ours, and despite this blip, we've shown why we're worthy champions and the best team in England on the season as a whole.

Although from what I gathered from the radio commentary and an ultra stuttery internet stream, his assertion that we were "the better team" sounds fairly delusional.

Certainly not the better team on the day because of the inept defending, but it wasn't always the shambolic display it will now be recorded as and Liverpool weren't all that special apart from capitalising to the full on sloppy errors either. When Ronaldo put away the penalty it was a merited lead and a nice and easy afternoon lay ahead until Vidic made that crucial error. In the second half the team just had a 'fuck it, we've already won the league and they'll drop points against Villa in the next match so we can't be arsed' mentality - as did all those fans that left the ground, quite shamefully.

I'm all the more excited about the Champions League draw now. Today sets up that overdue grudge match in Europe perfectly and is pretty much the way a script for a legendary quintuple season should be written. No one would have wanted the league written off in March, we need a bit more drama for that Official Season Review Blu-ray. Not that I'd want to make a habit of losing 4-1 to bitter rivals for the sake of drama.

Why the hell didn't Fletcher play? He's great in games like this. He seems to play in a couple of games, maybe early-ish champions league and cup ones, play brilliantly, but then not get picked. Pfft.

We got beat, pretty emphatically, dunno what SAF is going on about when he says we were the better team, we weren't. It's crazy how much the momentum of team matters in football, we had stuttered a bit recently, and Liverpool were buzzing. Hopefully this will get Liverpool's hopes up, only for them to be smashed by some silly draw or something. The league isn't quite over... but the odds are still overwhelmingly in our favour.

Why is Fergie hiding and not giving post-match interviews? Does he only want to come out when he has an excuse to blame the ref?

he still isnt talking to the BBC with regards to the allegations against Sam Allerdyce and Harry Redknapp in that Panorama programme a while back

That doesn't explain no Sky Sports interview. The players didn't give them either

No Sky Sports interview due to SAF claiming it was unfair of them to insist on a Sat lunchtime KO for the game, given that it unfairly disadvantage them compared to Liverpool (24 hours more training/rest time since their CL game mid-week), esp since both aren't playing midweek.

Can't see 24 hours would have made that much difference. Fair play to the scousers, but hopefully we'll not enter complete meltdown and still secure the title, which I firmly believe greatly outweighs all the other competitions we're in.

Rafa can be king of europe all he likes - his team can't do it over a full season yet and he should keep quiet and remember that.

Liverpool may be more likely to be challenging for the title next year as there'll be no Stoke to play against.

Don't count on it. Stoke have got a very interesting run-in. Lots of games against their relegation rivals, many of which are home matches.

Anyone but Villareal. I could do without watching another 0-0 draw.

Maybe Liverpool, although if it weren't in Rome I'd say it would make for a great final (albeit an utterly unbearably tense one).

I'd rather have Liverpool now than in the final truth be told, I think loosing to them in a one off final is more likely than than over two legs when they still have a league to chase (ish).

Given the two team's form over the last few years its amazing they haven't met yet.

Barcelona in the final would be an amazing game to watch for me. :P

Class draw we got Porto but we are at home first. If we get through we play either Arsenal or Villareal but again at home first.

couldnt have ask for a better draw.

chelsea/liverpool v bayern/barcelona on the other side

Apart from having to play the second leg away in both ties, that is undeniably a dream route to the final. I really don't see any of those teams posing a problem. Arsenal will always stand a chance, but I don't rate that current side at all. They should have been out in the last round.

Mind you, as we'd be considered the 'away' team in the final, if Liverpool made it there they won't be wearing those grey shirts again and the United players will be able to see them. A Man U vs. Liverpool final will be a monumental occasion when both sets of fans join forces to kick the shit out of some Ultras. And that will be the end of that chapter (of European football for Premiership sides).

Arsenal do have approximately half their best players injured at the moment, though, and they should all be back for any potential semi-final...

I'd still fancy us to beat them, though.

Easiest draw though, so it's not all bad.

I'd love a United v Liverpool final now.

So, if we beat Porto do we face Arsenal or Villareal in the semis?

Not very, Althletio and Porto were very poor in the last round.

This is pretty much a bye to at least the semis *touch wood.

No reason why it couldn't be Liverpool in the final, they have as good a chance as any, although I have a feeling about Chelsea this year, and Bayern are big dark horses, however, most of their strikers are injured at the moment, I bet they regret returning Landon Donovan back to sender!

How good is the current Porto side realistically?

Well, I'm certain they could trouble any team on their day. They have some top players like Lucho Gonzalez and in particular Lisandro who are always dangerous, and Hulk has been scoring a lot lately. But if Utd are in the mood then Porto's defense isn't what it used to be. I wouldn't assume it will be a walk in the park for Utd anyhow.

But I'm probably just being hopeful, I don't want Porto to get smashed  a one goal margin would be nice, thanks.
