The old Man Utd Thread

Cant complain it was a red card all day long.

We dominated the 2nd half without really creating any clear cut chances. Tevez has two half chances but he proves yet again hes not worth a huge sum of money after his control let him down.

Now we have to make sure we that game in hand.

You can loose three in a row and still win the league. Thanks to Liverpool's inability to finish off crap teams.

Disciple you are the worst poster on this forum, get out of our thread if you dont have nothing constructive to say.

You were rubbish but you'll still win the league?

Next time I'll think better of making a precious little thread for you :( xxx

You're going to lose the league to a rubbish team Disciple. If only you could beat teams like Stoke, it'd have made for a decent end to the season.

I cannot disagree!

Fucking gutted, although just like when we lost to Arsenal I wouldn't be surprised if we go unbeaten (winning most) until the end of the season. Got an easier game than Liverpool next weekend so hopefully we'll extend our lead again!

Grow some balls. You think we get to go a whole season without getting a weekend's worth of ribbing? Where would be the fun in that? I had a bad feeling that this past week would be a bad one with three games in three different competitions. It turned out that the two most important matches were won (the most important of all unconvincingly), so if you're gonna lose against Liverpool, it's best to do it in a competition that's already won. Unlike the Champions League, whose fun and games are still to come. They had more to play for today, now against all the odds it will be us with something to prove the next time we meet. Very timely that we should finally get a much needed week's rest now too.

Vidic went from being a major player of the season contender to chump in a single match. I could have put in a better performance than he did today. Not that it's anything for me to boast about. At least I'm from the Roy Keane 'if you're gonna get sent off, don't let it be for being shit' school of thinking.

I thought Park played well, certainly compared to some of the other players. One of the most frustrating things is that the peformance was pretty consistent with how we've played for large parts of the season, Liverpool just had a better strike force and defense than we usually come up against. On the upside we are still 4 points clear with a game in hand and I fully expect us to win the league, it's just bloody frustrating.

I'm not sure about that, each goal ( though there were 4 of them) was a freak occurence that came against the run of play.

lol. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds when you concede 4 goals? Especially when the goal Man Utd did score was a from a fairly soft penalty (although it was definitly a penalty). Apart from that you didn't have a clear cut chance all game. Whereas we had the chance Gerrard missed and a one or two others to make it more. Plus we beat you at anfield, and we just beat Real Madrid 4-0 this week.

Can you really say we don't have a better strike force and defense than you usually come up against? You sound silly.

Well that was a disappointing game, but when we have built much of our season around consistent defensive performances it was never going to be a good day when Vidic, Evra and VDS are pretty poor. Carrick was entirely ineffectual for large parts, Tevez fluffed a couple of chances, Ronaldo was non existent apart from banging some ridiculous long range efforts. Rooney, Park and to an extent Anderson (although he was nowhere near as good as the same fixture last year) were our brightest players

I agree with pretty much everything. It's odd to say this in a season in which we could still win everything but I think we've flattered to deceive for much of the season in terms of performances, it's just that we usually play teams much obviously weaker than us.

Going on recent displays I think Carrick needs a rest.

Centre midfield has been a problem all season. Having so much quality there seems to have been a hinderance in some respects as few players (bar maybe Carrick) are getting a run in the team. It's really frustrating as it's the same squad that few people would argue played the best football in the league (and at times Europe) last season. Hopefully we'll score 4 past Fulham next week and Liverpool will lose/draw to Villa so we can just pretend this was a glitch in the matrix!

Understatement! The Torres goal was of Titus Bramble (at Newcastle) proportions of LOL.

His only real mistake was letting it bounce (which is admittedly a pretty big fucking mistake) - the rest was down to Torres.

As this BBC match report states:

If United thought the setback would break Liverpool's resolve, they were to be sadly mistaken as Torres produced a golden spell that had them in front before the interval.

He levelled after 28 minutes with an example of all the qualities that make him arguably the world's finest striker.

Martin Skrtel's long clearance was speculative at best, but Torres' presence created uncertainty.

Vidic let the ball bounce and Torres showed lightning speed to touch the ball away from the defender and steer a composed finish beyond Van der Sar.

Torres then planted further seeds of doubt in Vidic's mind with an arrogant nutmeg on the defender, followed by respectable penalty claims when he collided with the Serb.

In a perverse kind of way giving the dippers some hope of still winning the league and then snatching it back away from them is kind of funny... but i could have done without the result today :(

Don't think there's that many who believe this result changes anything, to be fair.

It totally baffles me why Ferguson didn't play Fletcher today. I was thinking of what team he might play last night and I had a 4-3-3 with the same defense and then Fletcher,Carrick and Giggs, and Park, Rooney and Tevez. Why he picked Anderson ahead of Fletcher is beyond me, Anderson has not played that many games this season, and hasn't been playing particularly well either.

As it turns out Carrick also had a poor game, and Vidic had a shocker. Ronaldo was unable to get into the game as Liverpool were doubling up on him every time he got the ball, but that's why I'd have left him out and stuck with Rooney, Park and Tevez who I think were our best three players today, and were the only ones seemingly capable of stringing passes together.

Fair play to Liverpool though, they closed us down well and Torres and Gerrard were excellent. And also well done to the referee who got all the big decisions correct and had a very good game.

Yeah... but despite winning the prem 10 times since, i always have that horrible feeling from the 91-92 season :(

guess i'm a natural born pessimist lol

No way.

Not trying to tempt fate, but I really don't believe you'll let this slip from the position you're in.
