Rafael is injured, hence him not being in the squad, and Evans missed training today so is unlikely to play tomorrow. So unless Eckersley plays tomorrow, which I really doubt, then we're probably looking at Fletcher at right back and O'Shea in the middle, which might mean Giggs and Park play in the centre with Carrick tomorrow, or....oh I don't know. What a mess.

Can Fabio play at right-back? Then put Rio and O'Shea in the middle. DUN

In defensive positions we probably have more depth than anyone right now, it's crazy bad luck that we have to start thinking about bringing youth players in for a Champions League knockout game.

I don't know if Fabio can play right back but he's only played one game for us and I don't know playing a predominantly left-footed player on the right in his second game for us is a very good solution against Inter Milan. Whatever Fergie comes up with, it's going to be a compromise. I'd be tempted to go fuck it, let's go all-out attack and make sure we get an away goal because we're probably going to concede but that's just a crazy fantasy.

Can't see any reason why not. He's naturally right footed anyway.

Put Scholes in central defense. That way he can take out Ibrahimovic with a mistimed tackle and get sent off, and then its squeaky bum time till the whistle.

On a more serious note, Giggs to start seems sensible, with Park on after the hour or Fletcher, depending on if we are ahead or behind.

Wankers.

Robbers raided the home of Premier League footballer Darren Fletcher hours after he flew to Italy with Manchester United. The gang broke into Fletcher's family home in up-market Bowdon, Greater Manchester, around 9pm last night.

They threatened a woman at the house then went throughout the property, raiding rooms and snatching property, according to police. Fletcher, 25, lives at the house with girlfriend Hayley Grice and their twin boys. It is not yet known if the woman threatened was the player's girlfriend or if weapons were used, but there were no reports of injuries.

The £50,000-a-week Old Trafford star becomes the latest in a long line of wealthy Premier League stars who have been burgled by crime gangs while away from home playing football. The Scotland international midfielder only flew out to Italy yesterday with the Manchester United squad for tonight's crucial Champions League match with Inter Milan.

A woman at the property first alerted police to the raid with a 999 call following the raid, around 9pm. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said several offenders had entered the property and stolen items. It was not yet known how many robbers were involved or what exactly has been taken.

Police raced to the scene but the gang had fled by the time officers arrived. The spokesman for GMP said scenes of crime officers had been called to the house and inquiries are continuing.

Last time I spoke to my dad, he told me he'd been to the Fulham game, and that Scholes actually put it a couple of really good tackles. Can anyone back this up?

We should stick Fabio at right back but not tell anyone. Inter will just presume Rafael is playing.

Heh. Yeah, I don't think he should have any problems playing at right-back, we'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

I am bricking it about tonight's game ;) the whole central defense situation has made me a loss less confident than I would have been if Vidic were playing. Damned luck...hopefully we'll get a goal or two, that's essential.

I'm nervous as well. It's such a pisser Vidic got sent off in a not very important competition. I really don't know what to expect tonight. I normally hate watching us play away in europe because of how Rooney is nearly always shunted to the left and everyone looks vaguely uncomfortable at the different roles they're asked to play, like Barcelona away last year. I think an away goal is vital with our defence the way it is.

Evans and O'Shea to start, Rooney on the bench!

edit:

TEAMS Inter Milan v Man Utd

Inter Milan: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Santon, Rivas, Chivu, Cambiasso, Muntari, Zanetti, Stankovic, Adriano, Ibrahimovic. Subs to follow.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Fletcher, Ronaldo, Berbatov. Subs to follow.

Rooney's only just come back from injury and he played the full game on Saturday; maybe Fergie is worried that in a game which will be all about work rate he'll flag later on? My guess is that he'll come on for Park at about 65-70 minutes as an impact player. I reckon the line-ups gonna be a 4-5-1 with Giggs, Fletcher, Carrick in the middle, Park and Ronaldo on the wings and Berbatov playing as a lone striker.

I think he'll be really handy to bring on from the bench around the 65 minute mark, when their defence is starting to tire and we need that extra burst of pace and strength. Hopefully we'll still be in the game by then.
