The old Man Utd Thread

Yeah I/we know, and the point I/we was/were making is that it doesn't have that much to do with goalkeeping. Like VDS holds this record now but nobody could say he deserves it for his own goalkeeping skills. I don't think hes been the best goalkeeper in the league this season, nevermind the best goalkeeper ever or whatever. The record should go to the team.

While theres no stats for it I'd be pretty shocked if we haven't set a record for fewest shots received on target as well.

I dunno, we've had a lot of long range efforts against us when teams can't break us down. They all count.

I think VDS is probably the biggest factor, the defence don't look the same without him if I'm honest which is why I think we've conceded in the cup games with the other keepers playing. As defenders they always compliment VDS about the calming influence his has on the back four. Plus, he's the only ever present in this run I think, with maybe Vidic who in recent times as been immense!

Really good win yesterday, especially against a bogey team. I have to say that seeing Fergie before, (sometimes) during and after the game looks as relaxed as i've ever seen him. It was always going to be difficult to replicate the success or quality of play from last season but this is probably one of the most exciting squads i've seen. So many young players and experienced heads that you can understand why Fergie seems more relaxed than normal.

The defence have been awesome recently and I do wonder if Mike Phelan has had some hand in this, certainly the run started not long after he was announced as Fergie's assistant. He was a decent defender in his time too (so i've been told!). With the amount of changes in the defence during the record run there is clearly something very right with the system and coaching. Here's hoping it continues!

Anyway, Derby at the weekend and i'm hoping, even praying, that we get to see Rafael and Fabio play together for the first time in the first team. We should win really and hopefully we'l get to see Rooney back in action too.

I think I might actually explode if Rafael and Fabio play together

Giggsy is ageless.

I thought he was awful in the first half. I don't know where he found the energy, but even without the goal he eventually rightly earned Man of the Match.

I originally assumed he was keeping the seat warm for a bigger name but the results and the belief in this current squad speak for themselves, and unlike Queiroz his post-match interviews have yet to be cringeworthy when he's filling in for Sir Alex with the BBC.

He's been a part of the setup for quite a while, I think. As a player he was a bit of a Phil Neville/John O'Pie though - utility man to fill whatever gaps there were.

Will our game against Fulham be on Sky, it's the first day after Mr SkyHD comes round so I'm eager to try it out

Football on HD is so much better. I'm not sure how the technical side works, but I'm sure you pick up more sound too. You can hear fans and coaching staff swear.

Not listed to be aired on SKySports on their website

When are Roo and Evra set to come back? I want them for the CL :(

Evra as a chance to play at the weekend I think, if not then the Fulham game. Rooney should be back for the Fulham game.

Its HD, that includes the sound too!

Gutted

Might change though, can't see any games to be aired on that day so they might put it on?

I think that's impossible.

They decide at the start of the season to show X amount of games, they can't just show more now because of their schedule. Won't be on, I'm near certain of that.

Today's posts in the Liverpool thread have kept me entertained for hours

Hey! What about Lionhearts statement from the start of the season?

John Terry: It's United who have peaked, not Chelsea

Not as good as Essien's calculator though :(

Guys, what's the plan after fergie? God forbid we start to become uncompetative in tournaments. I might have to take up being an armchair fan of my favourite Rugby Union team (who is of course whoever is the most successful team at the time).

I realy like what Martin O'Neil has done with Villa in particular in terms of the way they play, and the young (English) talent he is nurturing. He would seem a natural fit I think to our way of playing.

Saying that, Moyes and Bruce have done AMAZING jobs with virtually no resources unlike the relatively well backed Villa. It would be interesting to see what they did in a situation where they had more money to spend.
