The old Man Utd Thread

I've got a feeling (hopefully) the table tonight is going to be the way the season finishes.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is, but with the exception of Arsenal grabbing the 4th spot. I know Villa are winning games but they aren't playing particular good football. Also, if I remember rightly I think they went of the boil at the back end of last season too.

The question for me is, does an Arsenal side which had aspirations to win the title have the desire in them to fight Villa for forth place when they've given them a five-point head start? If they do, then Wenger is doing something right with his players.

It was always going to be a two-horse race with Chelsea for the title. Sir Alex accepted that at the beginning of the season and never shook that belief. Chelsea will push strongly all the way now just like they did last year with the not very good Avram Grant in charge. That late win they had against Stoke would have given any side belief.

Excellent result, we were easily the better team and should have had another penalty. Tevez was an absolute monster today, easily his best game this year and looked like the player of last year. With us winning it should put more pressure on Pool/Chelsea to win tomorrow so hopefully that will be an entertaining match.

This is now turning into the best run Sir Alex has had, especially given the context. It's quite something when losing a goal in a match becomes your biggest worry. This is perhaps the season's pivotal three points now it means that whoever wins in tomorrow's match can only enjoy a pyrrhic victory. If it ends in a draw, that's a potential gap of seven points after the home game in hand against Fulham. It's also great to be able to point out dodgy refereeing decisions going against you while not actually having to care about them. Learn from that, Scolari.

Tevez's general play makes me think that contract needs to be signed ASAP, but his finishing makes me lean towards getting Benzema instead. Carrick is well and truly the business now. With Anderson coming along and Hargreaves back next season, there'll be no need for new midfielders, and the defence speaks for itself, so perhaps Sir Alex should be greedy and have his Tevez cake and eat Benzema pudding as well.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and defender Nemanja Vidic have been named Premier League manager and player of the month, respectively. The awards are a testimony to United's perfect start to 2009 which has seen them break the clean sheet record. They first recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford, with Vidic opening the scoring. They then beat Wigan at home before winning by the same scoreline at Bolton to take them to the top of the table.

Vidic grabbed his second goal of the month in United's 5-0 demolition of West Brom at the Hawthorns. They finished the month with a 1-0 home win against Everton, during which the league clean sheet record of 12 successive games was broken. Quite often defenders don't get the plaudits they deserve but Vidic has been solid for us

United have also suffered from an extensive injury list during January that has deprived them of a number of key players including Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra.

This is Ferguson's 22nd Manager of the Month award and Vidic's first monthly player honour.

Really glad for Vidic, as he's been awesome in defence.

Just read this in an interview with Ronaldo on Sky Sports.com

United also won the Premier League last season and Ronaldo's form played a big part in the double success.

The 24-year-old was duly recognised with both the Ballon d'Or and the Fifa World Player of the Year awards.

However, Inter coach, and former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho recently claimed his side's Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a better player.

Ronaldo, though, has refused to be drawn into a war of words, adding: "I respect everyone's opinion. But the trophies that matter are at my house."

ZING!! Love it.
