The old Man Utd Thread

Stiles was on some crazy card game tonight, I think he was playing cards against goals or something; he certainly wanted to beat Utd's five goals in his own way.

Some great play tonight, Park has his spark, Tevez, Berb, Giggs... Ronaldo, although didn't look in to it for much of the match certainly displayed a some great moves.

When Chelsea set the record for 10 matches without conceding, it's all that was talked about. How come when we got to 10 it was barely mentioned. I bet even with 11 it doesn't receive as much recognition.

Welcome to the southern centric press, how do you think Arsene got his 'Urbane' nickname.

They were the first to put the feat on the map. No-one remembers those who subsequently broke it. Can you name the current 100m world record holder? I didn't think so. Everyone knows who the first fastest man on earth was though.

This shite again. Sure, the southern press all love Chelsea - haven't got a bad word to say about us.

FWIW I read about you equalling the ten game record in at least two papers at the weekend, and the one match report I've read of last night's game, on the beeb site, mentions setting the new record.

Still, let's not get the facts get in the way of a good ol' paranoid whinge, eh.

Thing is, the press do tend to favour the London clubs though. Not that it matters, couldn't give a fuck what they say but they do love the London clubs.

--------

Anyway, cracking game last night and a cracking result marred by the Ref it as to be said. The sending off was a dodgy one although when I first saw it I said red card straight away as it looked like to me he' lunged two footed into Park chest. So if the Ref saw it that way you can understand why he was so quick to give him his marching orders.

The things that were baffling were all the yellow cards, mainly due to WBA losing their cool and telling the Ref how much of a cunt he is. I say baffling on WBA part, surely they know what Styles is like. Bloody hell, we all do!

Thought Giggs, Tevez, Ronaldo and Berbatov played exceptionally well. Ronaldo started off the boil and looked a frustrated figure but he did come into the game as it went on and once he scored we saw glimpses of the Ronaldo of old.

Giggs is just a breath of fresh air at the moment, his performances in the centre midfield are bloody wonderfully. He's got it all in for that role, plus I love his bursting runs from deep. Long may his from continue!

Tevez and Berbatov actually look like a partnership now too, Tevez's confidence is clearly high at the moment and you can tell by the way he's playing. The good thing is we don't have to rush Rooney back now as we've had to do in the past.

If we can keep that kind of performance up now I can't see past us retaining the title, and with luck (as you need it) maybe even the Champions League!

Van der Sar has broken Cech's record for most minutes played without conceding a goal. Considering we've played 8 different combinations in defense in 8 games, I think that's quite impressive. Says a lot for the quality of our squad.

I don't think there's a team in the world with better depth in the centre-back position (Brown, Evans, O'shea and Neville are all very capable there), the addition of the twins makes me less nervous about the full back position too. I do find the confidence of the players, given they are playing in new roles every game, pretty remarkable too.

Indeed, that is his speciallty. You can just see that he hasn't had the time to get to know the players and how to interact with the fast passing style we play when attacking, as well as the physicality of tackles (he spend a lot of time on the gound). But again, I think its just that he needs time to get used to it, i'm overall quite excited about him.

I'm not judging him until next season personally, however I just don't think he's ready for English football yet and from the glimpses I've seen from him he looks technically ready but not physically.

Nani over Tosic for me at this moment in time.

I thought Tosic looked decent, was a wrilling runner and showed a few decent touches. At the end of the day we have got 4 decent proper wingers, which is impressive in itself.

I was really impressed with Berbatov yesterday, he's starting to show the confidence that was a little lacking earlier in the season. Looks like we are starting to score a little more freely at just the right time of the season too. Hopefully we can get a result against Everton on Saturday and Chelsea and Pool will have a messy draw.

The thing that surprised me with Tosic, in the brief amount I have seen him, was that he ran at people and took them on. I got the impression from all the hype about being a dead ball specialist he would be another player in the Beckham mould who just hoofed passes and didn't take anyone on

Beckham was far less passive when he was starting out. He used to dribble and shoot and everything. It was only once he had a solid first team place that play was built around his long ball ability and he started narrowing into a pure-pass player.

He was never a player with many tricks though?

Tricks? He did not need to beat a man as his passing was (is) so precise !

I never said it was a bad thing, read what I said originally - I was saying how I was surprised Tosic wasn't a Beckham-esque player as that's how he was billed

Yeah, and I'm just saying Beckham wasn't a Beckham-esque player when he was still making debuts/occasional subs in a team not geared round his particular talents... and that Tosic is very likely to still become what he is being billed as over the next few years.

Oh dear, it's really worked out well for Rafa since his little rant. LOL

In his defence, he does appear to have been somewhat more successful in firing up Everton after last week's FA Cup match bitch. Tough team to face right now. Or Saturday....

Edit: Oh, Everton have just conceded a last-minute equaliser. As you were, then...

Well at least we had a positive game yesterday, with Rio, Park and Brown returning. Plus there could be a possibility of Evra returning for Saturday, and the fact that we've managed to score more than 1 goal.

Plus, as per edit in previous post, Arsenal's last-minute goal perhaps dulled that theory about Everton anyway ;)
