The old Man Utd Thread

Great second goal, however, Berbatov's lazyness is really starting to piss me off. He's supposed to be a striker, yet he's been spending most of the game slumbering around the centre circle. What the fuck is he doing there? And when the ball comes to him and he passes it on to someone else he seems to come to a complete halt and just......watches.

He acts like he's been tranquilized, at times.

I thought Wellbeck looked pretty exciting at times in the first half, going on a couple of decent runs whenever he got hold of the ball. And to be fair to him, no one really did much in the second half to make me think they're capable of playing in a Utd shirt.

The mind boggles. If you don't understand Berbatov style now you never ever will. He's not lazy and gets through as much work as your average striker. Next to Tevez he may look like he isn't doing much but Tevez is something else when it comes to closing down. The crazy Argie that he is!

Anyway, happy with the result, the second half was piss poor mind but the first had some cracking football from us at times and I was impressed with Fabio and Welbeck's contribution in the first half. Nice to get a glimpse of Tosic too.

You guys were pretty happy to sit back and a lot of our players were knackered so it wasn't exactly pretty. Did anyone actually have a shot on target in that half?

I think maybe Spurs had one shot that got a huge deflection and fell easily into Foster's arms. But that was about it.

We looked so dangerous in the first half when we were a goal behind, but as soon as we took the lead we seemed to be happy to sit back and hold on to it. I know Spurs really didn't demand it, but I wish we could start killing teams off again.

Eh! Wellbeck's been fantastic when he's played. He was a proper handful tonight and was playing out of position. In a few years when he's bulked up he's gonna be very special.

Wellbeck, Fabio, Rafael, Evans, Cathcart, Gibson, Chester, Possebon... We're entering a new era of Fergie's Fledglings. I can't see Ferguson leaving in the two years he said he would when he's got all these youngsters on the verge of the first team.

Half of them will never make the first team regularly and be sold on in due course, see youngsters like Pique, Rossi, Eagles and countless others...from what I've seen of Gibson he'll never make it unless he dramatically improves. Rafael will probably make it once he improves the defensive side of his game. I'm confident Evans will do well and Wellbeck hasn't been bad.

I think the Da Silva's are the best young players I've seen from any team for a long long time. They just look so bloody good, and baring in mind they didn't play for almost a year before they joined Utd.

Evans has been fantastic in the absence of Rio and Fergie as nothing but high praise so I think its a certainty that he's going to have a career at Utd. Welbeck hasn't done too bad either when he's had a chance. Today in the first half I thought he played very well. It'll be more difficult for him to make it because of the position he plays but I'm sure he's got the ability to succeed for Utd.

He's the only out-and-out striker we've got.

Not really, Rooney is playing more and more as an out an out striker since the arrival of Berbatov. Anyway, my point was that Strikers have it hard compared to anywhere else as they have the most difficult job - scoring goals. So while he as the ability he'll have an harder job making a name for himself in the Utd team.

Well he is a right winger naturally

He's played as a striker for the reserves since I can remember. So not too sure he is a winger tbh.

"Cristiano Ronaldo was withdrawn after 71 minutes against Spurs and after the game Ferguson admitted the Portuguese winger was a doubt prior to the match.

"We had to get the doctor in to see Cristiano," said the Scot.

"He had a bit of a bug and I think it showed today, I don't think he was anywhere near ready.

"But he showed the appetite to play and it's always good to have him on the pitch, opponents are always aware of him. He should be better by Tuesday."

Nope, but he didn't have the best preparation for the season, it makes such a huge difference. I don't think he's done as bad as most people think, but if you compare him to last season then he's underachieving. He's never ever going to replicate what he did last year, it was a one off so try not to judge him on that. He's still got 10 goals this year which for a winger is more than acceptable. He's not at his best, but I'm confident he'll find his form when it matters - the second half of the season!

Have patience and we'll get to see the Ronaldo we all know and love to watch.

Trigg, the lack of pre-season is not an excuse any more, he's had more than enough games to get himself fit again. And I'm sorry, but I've watched him intently every single game so far (I would, he's my favourite player) and, quite frankly, he's been gash for the most part. I don't understand where such a dip in form comes from after 3 solid seasons. I'm not asking for 40 goals, but he doesn't do what Cristiano Ronaldo did in the last few seasons. He doesn't get the ball and run with it past 1 or 2 players, he doesn't even attempt it most of the time. He can't seem to get a decent cross in from the wing, and in the odd occasion he does try and go for goal himself he usually gets tackled and ends up in a heap on the ground for ages.

Basically, he's looking like a very average winger, and that's not acceptable from the Best Player in the World. And we ARE in the second half of the season, he needs to get it sorted asap.

It pains me to say this because I stick up for Cristiano more than anyone in the world usually, but those are the facts I'm faced with game after game and it's becoming really frustrating to watch.

I think you're way off. A lack of pre-season isn't an excuse, he's had niggling injuries throughout too and maybe just maybe 3 seasons of solid football as taken its toll. Thats the facts of the matter and if you don't take that into account it's unfair.

Anyway, you clearly think he's turned into an average player overnight and for no good reason. Personally I don't think he's been average at all, but hey its a fact according to yourself so maybe I'm wrong.

We're entering the second half of the season now and I'm sure he'll find his form, along with the the rest if the team for that matter. You have to remember as well that the team as a whole haven't really set the world alight this season. Not just Ronaldo, everyone.

If he's your fave player I think you're been incredibly harsh on him.
