The old Man Utd Thread

I think it's because they give much more defensively than, say, Nani and Scholes. The assumption being that against Wigan we'll dominate possession, but against Chelsea or someone we're more likely to have to work to get hold of the ball.

Hmm, it's true that their hard work helps keep us tight, hence why I mentioned it's usually tactical affairs they get players in. I'm not sure they contribute less in attack, though. I think Park's delivery is better than Nani, neither are very likely to score but Park is more likely to create a chance. Scholes has some one-off talents, clearly, but Fletcher also contributes in attack, making runs in from deep, he picks a pass well too. I guess I just really rate them, I know many players would be frustrated with such limited opportunities and I think there is always a danger that they will leave. Fletcher in particular has a good ten-year career ahead of him, I doubt he'll want to be a bit-part player for all of that.

Yeah, I do kind of agree with you. Fletcher has been very impressive when he's been given a chance these past couple of seasons, although I still don't think I'd have him in my first choice 11. Admittedly my judgement might be slightly clouded by the fact that I think I'm basically in love with both Anderson and Scholes, though. And I agree with you about Park - I think he's definitely our best option on the left wing at the moment, if only because he's much more consistent than Nani.

I suppose part of it is down to a need to rotate players - we have too many midfielders at the moment, really.

Wasn't easy, we looked a little jaded from last Sunday. But we got the 3 points and that's all that matters. Hope Rooney is ok for Saturday.

Also, Vidic is king. During Rio's absence he's grown and grown game after game. Our player of the season so far, for me.

Didn't he only cost about £8m or so? Anyway, yeah what a cracking player he is, his contributions this season have been as meaningful as any. However, I remember the game against Barca last season when Ferdinand and Brown where playing together, and they seemed unbeatable. Evans and Vidic seem excellent too. We have a wonderful level of cover in the position, to be perfectly honest. It'd be good for Rio if he doesn't get back in right away, though frankly if he returns from injury in last season's form he'd get into any team.

Hopefully Tevez and Evans are OK as we are a bit light in coverat the moment. Obviously Ronaldo could go up front and Neville could cover at the back but it's not ideal. Brown is nearing fitness but he hasn't played in a while. i suppose O'Shea could play at the back and somebody else come in at left back.

I think he's the best player in the Premiership so far this season. He scores decisive goals and is the closest I've ever seen to unbeatable in central defence in the premiership.

One of the most improved players in years to, and Evra. When they were bought i was bit "wtf" but they are fucking brilliant now.

Would anyone be really that bothered if we off loaded Tevez and got Benzema or whoever?

I honestly don't rate him that much, he's definitely not a £30+ million player for me anyway. I know his work rate is good and he's a battler, but he's just not incisive enough. I never feel confident that we'll score when he's on the pitch instead of Rooney.

I guess this is his chance to shine now, so I just hope he does. We need to get to the top of the league and stay there.

I don't think he's incisive enough either. The guardian regularly calls him a rich mans Dirk Kuyt which is a bit unfair but I can see where they're coming from. He's not worth what they're asking for him anyway. I really like him as a person but, and I've been saying this for a while now, I'd rather have someone who offers something a bit different up front.

Tevez at the end of his time at West Ham looked like the real deal though, he looked like a player who could take a team apart - he just hasn't done that on many occasions for us as yet. I remember him playing against West Ham, ironically, last season and absolutely pulling them too bits and scoring that absolute screamer. I think he was scoring more and playing better last season but that could be down to the chances.

It's sad because it's apparent he loves the club, loves the fans and wants to stay.

I dunno. Berbatov gives us something else, his passing is sublime at times, he brings players in excellently. I do think Tevez is fantastic though, they're very different players. Unfortunately for Tevez, Rooney is an excellent player who is very similar. I don't think any of them deserve to warm the bench, but with the arrival of Berbatov, they can't all be first choice. Hopefully they can sort the contract out and then he'll be more settled about his future at the club.

I'd have Tevez over Berbatov. Tevez has been great up til his recent chopping in an (mosatly) out of the team

Has he really, though? His effort and trying tends to cloud peoples judgements. He's been ineffective and wasteful for United and I can't remember a great performance from him in our shirt.

If we can get the Tevez of last season then you'd have an argument for Tevez over Berbatov. At this moment in time though it's a certain no-no. Tevez last season was great at times, but he still frustrated the hell out of me, this season he's taken that frustration to another level. He hold onto the ball far to long, especially at crucial times in attack.

This season he does it even more, I think it to try and make a difference in the games he plays. He's had quite a lot of playing time this season and hasn't really produced a performance of that much note (apart from the game against Blackburn of course) and for that reason only I'd have Berbatov over Tevez for the forseable future. Not to mention how great of a player Berbatov actually is.

I'd like Tevez to stay as I do think he has qualities, however not for the money quoted in the papers. And he'll obviously have to prove he can perform within a squad environment, which he failed to do at the moment.

Looks like Manucho is off to Hull on loan. Glad he's staying in the PL so I can see him play.

Looks like Fabio may be in the squad at the weekend, would be great if he got on the field at some point. It could depend if Evans is out though and presumably Neville would take his place with O'Shea at left back. Will be interesting to see who he plays in midfield, I think Park will play and I wouldn't be surprised if Scholes was dropped for Anderson or Fletcher.

Here's a chant about the Silva brothers off F365;

"Viva da Silva,

Viva da Silva,

Running down the pitch, dont know which is which,

Viva da Silva"

Made me chuckle.
