The old Man Utd Thread

Unfortunately Terry is also back.

I wouldn't call it unfortunate at all for the time being. The Stretford End has been waiting a long time to formally thank Terry for Moscow. It might not be so sweet at the end of the match, but I'm sure he'll get the best reception ever received for a player on the away side at Old Trafford.

Looks like Benitez spouted off again after Liverpools 0-0 draw with Stoke.

Feeling the pressure Rafa?

Pretty much committing managerial suicide under the pressure. "He is talking too much about Liverpool. He has to think about his own team, the problems they have and all the things they are doing." Amazing. He managed to describe himself if you swap Liverpool for Sir Alex in that sentence. The subtext of Benitez's continued nervous ravings is 'please stop playing mind games with my players, they're not strong enough to cope with the added pressure'.

Well apparently he was a United fan growing up. :)

Why is Giggs playing in central midfield (I assume) while Anderson and Carrick are on the bench? There are times when Giggs has done well in the centre, but considering that Chelsea are quite a strong physical team, it seems like a really odd choice to me.

Agreed, does seem strange. I don't think the physicality will be any more of a disadvantage but if Carrick is fit then he's a lot more dangerous. I assume Ferdinand is still injured and I had a feeling Neville would get the nod today.

I know, what a strange selection. With Rio out and Neville and Evans playing, we could really have done with a bit more defensively minded midfielder in there over Park.

Great first half at both ends. Probably just about deserved the goal after a few good attempts. To give Fergie his credit Giggs has done really well, he obviously knew that Chelsea would fill the middle of the park negating Carrick's passing a little whereas Giggs has the speed and control to be able to get past players.

Did giggs touch the ball for the corner then leave it for rooney? Thats genius :P

stupid linesmen.

Rooney went over with the ball, put it in the corner spot then rolled it back out. The Chelsea defenders saw Giggs running over and backed off thinkig he was going to take the corner, but it had technically already been taken.

Rooney definitely said something to the linesman when he first went over, so it should have stood really.

This game is over. Well done United. It sounds like Giggs has had as good a game as he's ever had.

Scolari seems weak tactically. He does not seem to have a plan B. Mourinho's Chelsea always had pace on the wings if a quick break was needed, and the ability to kill the play when neccesary. Now their shape doesn't seem as reactive, supposedly by releasing the full backs they're more attacking, but they're still can't stretch teams. Especially with teams that occupy the fullbacks with other duties. He doesn't seem to get the same commitment from his players either, or inspire the same confidence.

Cracking result and great performance overall. Giggs and Park were particularly outstanding in both attack and defense. Evryone else played really well too, hopefully Evra isn't out for long (or at all) as he was superb.

Pretty much. I think all the players that people were worried about Ferguson selecting on the previous few pages had good games but in particular Park and Giggs.

:P at Chelsea.

Fully deserved win by United. People say that they would rather have points on the board than games in hand but when those games are against Fulham and Wigan, I'd rather have the games in hand.

Although apparently Wigan have won 6 of their last 7 games, so it's not quite a guaranteed 3 points.

Still, fantastic result today, hopefully it will be a real boost for us.

Evans was class. That disallowed goal was class (well, the first of two disallowed goals). The officials were dreadful today but it didn't affect the result, so Benitez can add that to his dossier. The next time the bedraggled Spaniard pulls a bit of paper out of his pocket will be to take someone's order.

That corner was brilliant, has the llinesman not seen that before then? Its happened a few times now.

Just lucky we got the 2nd one in.

Giggs was ace today, Vida and Evans too.

Realy hope Pat isn't too badly injured... and Rio too!

Ferguson's quote regarding Rafa's speech was something like "Benitez seems to be quite an angry man, I think he's deranged." :P Don't take on the master of Mind Games. Fantastic result and performance, I certainly wouldn't have started Giggs but he had a great game. Chelsea are fucked now hopefully and it will kickstart our season.

He said disturbed, not deranged.

Brilliant performance today, about time we started playing like a team again. Ronaldo was probably our poorest performer, he still doesn't seem quite with it. Giggs, Vidic and Evra were all outstanding. This should kickstart the season for us.
