Anyone who still thinks we need to replace Ole is an idiot.

Yeah, exactly. If Jose was still in charge, the narrative would be all about a Mourinho masterclass or something. Ole has a habit of masterminding these famous victories against the best teams, but people still keep saying he's out of his depth.

His signings, particularly Fernandes, have transformed this team, as well.

Edit - corrected bad spelling/ignorance.

Really loved this victory. Dogged determined fantastic organisation. Fred was a revelation. James nearly made me dislocate my jaw with his ridiculous greed for shots - could have squared it to Fernandez for a tap in at least twice. But otherwise so much to be excited about. Ole all the way!

i think the main thing is, Ole has a clear idea of what he wants, he wants to bring in the best, to go with homegrown, essentially, what he was part of.

He is identifying the right players, of the right age, and making the club make the effort to actually bring them in!

Lets be honest, Klopp, has had 4 years or so, and steadily improved the team each season, we need to give Ole that kind of time

But, a big part of the run we have been on is Matic coming back to form, which shows really ,that we should be targeting a DM in the summer as a long  term replacement!

Hmm. Let's assume that our uptick in form since signing Fernandes continues, and that we qualify for the Champions League (in 4th or 5th). Won't this still have been a pretty miserable season, points-wise? Just because we're not playing as badly as earlier in the season, and the teams around us are dropping points too, doesn't mean there shouldn't be a question mark over Ole's record overall. Chelsea and Spurs won't have another season as bad as this one (Arsenal might). Wolves or Sheffield United could kick on. We can't really afford to have another season like this.

I'm not saying we desperately need a new manager. But if an outstanding candidate becomes available and wants the job, we should be open to it.

So, every time Chelsea win United draw or lose, except when winning means doing the double over a Man City side managed by Guardiola that's one of the best premier league teams ever. Of course! Never in doubt!

Freaky how inept the big sides are at creating chances against Man United, they look like they just don't try. Is why I just never think there's a defensive problem that needs to be rectified by focussing recruitment in that area as opposed to attacking midfield. That's a few goals scored sort of scruffily at the near post in a shot the keeper should save. These games just go United's way.

I forgot about the best thing with Ole. He's actually clearing out the dead wood!

Young, Valencia, Lukaku, Smalling, Rojo and Sanchez!

I'd be shocked if Lingard, Pereira and Jones are still here at the start of next season too.

He deserves a knighthood just for this.

They won't be, because he's already frozen them out of the squad. We are definitely moving in the right direction.

@spork Fred's upturn in form has been pretty insane. City were after him too, and I think we can all see why now, but would he have reached this level more quickly under different coaching? He barely played for the longest time, almost as if Ole didn't think he was "his" player, and was forced to include him due to injuries (similar to what's happened with Matic), and he seemed to gradually find his feet simply through playing games consistently. I'm not convinced that it was all part of some grand plan, so why give him credit?

I won't simply accept that Ole was hamstrung until we signed Fernandes. The coach has to adjust their approach to get the best out of their players, not the other way around. Liverpool have a pretty functional midfield, so their creativity comes from the flanks, for instance. I don't think the group of players he has had at his disposal are fundamentally much worse than Chelsea's or Leicester's, yet we're trailing them.

Happy to give him credit for bringing the likes of James, Greenwood and Williams through, and we have been pretty good defensively too. These are positive things but, taken together with Ole's overall record, his position surely isn't untouchable. I feel there will be coaches available in the summer who can improve things - probably only a handful mind - particularly with regards to how we press and how we attack.

re: Lingard, I wouldn't want us to let him go this summer, when off-field issues are so obviously affecting him, and he's been subject to abuse. We can have a pretty toxic fanbase at times and I wouldn't want to see them thrown this particular bone. Let him stick around for another season at least, as a squad player. I think letting him leave under a cloud could be a bit shit for morale. Of course Conte could always swoop in for him, I'd be fine with that.

I was just about to say that. He deserves to be hoofed for that. He’s seen what an absolute prick he’s been with United, so to hire him shows a total lack of respect for the club.

I imagine it's because he knows he's off in the summer and knows Raiola with get him top dollar.
