That disallowed goal seems incredibly harsh.  It's technically correct as the laws of the game stand, but it's kind of ridiculous.  It hit his hand, but he knew nothing about it.

Harsh on Neto too. That two in three goals this season ruled out very harshly. At Anfield and old Trafford too.

You can't argue with it being disallowed under the current laws, but if you ask me the laws are wrong.

I’ve been reading this on Twitter for the last 5 days. It won’t happen.

I am over in Lisbon at the moment and everyone here is convinced it’s happening this time. They probably don’t fully understand Ed’s incompetence though.

The current excuse is that Fernandes wants to play his last game for Lisbon against Benfica tomorrow, and then they will conclude the deal.

It's nonsense. Nothing has happened for a week, and we're looking to get a midfielder in on loan. The deal is clearly off.

Just looking at the Manchester Evening News site for some transfer news and they had this graphic up. It made me realise that we're not too far away from having a solid first team. Replace Lindelof and Fred with a couple of better players and I think that'd be pretty solid. I know Pogba will be off as soon as he can and I'm never convinced by Martial's attitude, but what do you lot think?

Then we need to have replacements of equal quality for all of them. We've still got a long way to go.

Depends what your aim is? Apart from the fact you’re basically planning to replace the whole midfield, i’d say James and Williams haven’t proven they’re ready to start week in week out for a champions league club.

Well, I just mean it’s starting to look like a team that could work and not the dysfunctional bunch of random players we’ve been having to put up with for the last however many years. Slow down with the Champions League stuff as well, that’s still a long way off! As I said, we’d still be extremely light and if any of those players lose form or get injured, then we’re screwed, but it’s a start and that’s the most optimistic I’ve been for a long time.

Woodward is pretty much guaranteed to fuck this transfer up though. I have zero faith in him getting it through.

Weakening the squad, removing a veteran, loved in the dressing room, for the sake of a few quid saved. Glazernomics 101.

We would have all been delighted we had sold him at any other point in the last few years and I imagine if we went and looked back at when his 1 year contract extension was announced we were probably all a bit annoyed and wondering what the club is playing at.

With the emergence of Williams we are arguably stronger at LB then we have been for years so Young is even less essential than he was before. We tried to keep hold of him with the recent news that he turned down another 1 year extension but he wants to move on so he can play more. Sure he does have big Salah shaped pockets but if it turned out he did want to stay and signed the contract extension we offered I can imagine we'd be pretty miffed about what's going on.

Young going also probably means Ethan Laird will get some game time and he's thought of as the bigger LB prospect compared to Williams.

To be fair, it does seem like a move he wants, so I can’t really complain about him going. The problem I have though is that we are so quick to sell, but painfully slow to buy and even though he’s past his best, it creates another hole in the squad that needs sorting. They must have known about it for a while, so we should have had a replacement lined up. According to Ole they’re not even looking to replace him.

He's basically already been replaced by Williams though. He might only be 19 and he might have only played in 15 games (I think?) but I've seen enough to want to give him a chance without buying a new LB who will push him down the pecking order.

If Ethan Laird does get a chance and takes it like Williams has then we'll have 2 decent young prospects and tubby Shaw fighting for the LB position.

Yeah I get that, but I still think we need cover. As much as I want the youth to come through, what happens if they’re injured, just look at McTominay and Pogba. It still feels like they’re stripping the club of players, while telling us they’re rebuilding.

I do love your positivity the spork, so don’t mind me too much!

The bigger question is what on earth is Conte up to at Inter? First Lukaku, then Sanchez, now Young. It's like when I would start a game on Football Manager with two managers, one to manage the team I actually want to manage, and the other one to buy all the shit players from the other team.

So apparently young is going to inter, for £1.3mil! We would also be saving over £2mil in wages by him going!

For a player who is out of contract at the end of the season and 34, that's not bad!

Young deserves a testimonial match.
