Do i want a DLP? ya damn right i do! we need an "outball" somebody that sits in front of  the defenders an is always available to recycle and start new moves, thats what we are lacking.

For today then, well, this will be good wont it, might get a lot of running from the front 3 though!

i don’t understand this..

Fred and McTominay and Matic can mop up but not start moves?

Fred is more of a passing midfielder than McTominay but neither of them particularly are. In intense games when they press and hurry they excel. Ask them to hold the ball and pass and they can’t. During the Carrick years i basically blamed him for not being the midfielder he naturally is. I wanted him to be more mobile and flexible, take more shots, be more combative - essentially run around more. I wanted a Vidal not a Busquets. Carrick could slide forward passes through small gaps as well as close defensive gaps but who was he passing to? Who would a dm at united pass to? Straight to the forwards?

Vidal is underated at Barcelona, a lot of people mention that because he doesn’t get his due for his work rate and un Barcelona like manner. But he’s the kind of player United should have been looking at years ago, as is Rakitic even if he’s adapted a bit. They run a lot, do the dirty work but can pass.

Still seems like the same viewpoints as years ago, this..they never replaced Scholes. Keane was the combative player like Vidal but he could pass as well. Might as well forget about Pogba now. With Arsenal improving that’s another team in there for 4th. Not like that objective isn’t boring to mention and actually futile by now, but you’ve got to aim for something. Chelsea will hit a winning streak again.

i ...think...we may actually be wanting the same thing...maybe...

Regarding Carrick, "we wanted a Gatuso, but got a Pirlo" right now, we need a Pirlo!

with regard to Matic, I'd rather we played James Garner instead of matic as hes immobile, then runs off up the pitch, leaving the space he should be in empty!

Loik mate, you talk absolute shite. Why are you talking about Barcelona?

Fred and Matic can not control the tempo of a game and are positionally suspect. Fred consistently gives the ball away when he's faced by a high-press. We need a calming influence to sit deep and start moves and also protect the defence. Think Fernandhinino or Fabhino.

The problem is, who do we buy? Who is realistically available?

Regarding the game tonight, Greenwood was awful. Someone needs to tell him to stay central. Infuriating.

I have a bad feeling about tonight. The last time we played City I was optimistic but our terrible performance against Arsenal has filled me with all sorts of doubt.

I'm also utterly depressed because it doesn't seem like were going to make any signings this months and we desperately need more depth in our squad. Were not going to improve in any way unless we get more signings. If Rashford or Martial picks up an injury then we are screwed, and with all the games coming up thats a real possibility. I think its clear that the board doesn't back Ole because if they did we would have signed players in January. United are terrible at transfers.

Not sure you can say we are terrible at transfers AND that it's clear that the board doesn't back Ole because if they did we would be signing players in January. So even if Woodward does back Ole the likely hood of anyone coming in this month is low anyway because we are terrible at transfers. Plus Martial is already injured and we are already screwed in that we only have 2, maybe 3 "first team" "central midfielders" with Matic, Fred and Pereira.

But ultimately who knows what's actually going on behind the scenes? There have been some rumours from half decent journalists posted on the Utd subreddit about players we are possibly interested in. Maybe we'll get one or two, maybe we won't! I'd like to think we are waiting on the ideal player who will fit the system Ole wants to play to become available rather than buying someone along the lines of Di Maria just because.

And in better news, Lingard has signed up with super twatty agent Mino Raiola and the latest is that he's been offered to Milan. So swings and roundabouts!

I can’t see anything other than a heavy defeat tonight. Pep now knows we’ve only got one tactic, so that will be totally cut out, leaving us with no other options.

That team doesn’t help either. Fucking Calamity Jones. <_<

Now is the time for Ole to show he’s not a one trick pony with his tactics.

Men against boys.

God, I hate Fred so much. 2 or 3 times he's had the ball in the middle of park and there's been runners on either side and he chose the simple sideways pass. Can he use his right foot?

Lindelof has no authority in the air at all. His header that led to their 2nd goal was awful. Vidic would have sent ball half-way down field.

Can we just forget about the 2nd leg?

Ashley Young has been offered a contract extension to try and stop him moving to Inter Milan. What timeline is this?

Think it's already been pretty much confirmed he is off to Inter at the end of the season when his contract runs out. There was also some talk that they might even pay to buy him this month.

I'm all for getting rid of him, but our squad is so poor at the moment that we sort of still need him.

I like how they keep selling players and not replacing them. Give it a couple of seasons and the Glazers and their cronies will be lining up against the opposition.

It's worth a punt looking at the current lot.
