The old Man Utd Thread

Working on the assumption that he weighs around 13 stone, that apparently means he's worth about £250,000.  We paid 200 times that for him. Having said that, he's definitely worth it - he's absolutely brilliant.

If you're not watching the match, the fact that I've spent time looking that up rather than paying attention to it might tell you how entertaining it's been so far.

I think our problem is that, regardless of one of them being injured, our strikers just aren’t good enough to be playing at this level. Until we’ve got a decent strike force, we aren’t going anywhere. We also need to massively overhaul the midfield as well, but I’d say our strikers are the most pressing concern at the moment.

Spot on, and now two of them are injured :seanr:

We’ve only got 2! Honestly though, I just can’t see where the goals are going to come from over the course of the season. I know both Rashford and Martial are well liked on here, but they’re nowhere near the quality we need and I can’t even see them getting 30 goals between them.

Matic needs to STOP trying to run forward with the  ball, and be the holding mid and stay put! he doesn't have the ball control to do it or the passing range, and he just keeps losing it, and making mctominey have to sit!

@JPL

Rashford was our only decent attacking player. He consistently made the right runs but the slow, sluggish midfield failed to make the right pass time and time again. I'd love to know how what's happening out there is Rashford's fault. What is your reasoning for saying him and Martial are the problem, and not the midfield?

I’m not specifically talking about this game, I’m not even watching it, it’s something I’ve been thinking about for weeks to be honest. As I said though, I think the midfield is also really weak, but there is some promise there. I can’t see anything from either of our 2 main strikers that make me think they’re anything other than mid table quality, and although that’s where we’re at these days, I wish we were aiming higher. We’ve got no hope with Martial and Rashford up front.

The whole thing is a massive mess though. I just needed to start somewhere!

I disagree. Rashford is a top player. His movement is underrated. There's huge potential there, with two areas he needs to improve - he needs to be more clinical, and he needs to make good decisions more consistently. Martial is a good finisher, and needs to work on his movement if he plays up front. James has been excellent. Greenwood is going to be a star player. Between them they've scored all our goals this season.

The midfield is packed with bang average players. McTominay is not good enough, and never will be. Pereira likewise. Matic is past it and thinks he's better than he is. Mata struggles to effect games these days. Fred doesn't even look like a footballer. I feel sorry for Pogba having to play alongside these stiffs and getting all the blame every week.

Good second goal by West Ham.

Gotta disagree about McTominay ,he is gonna be good! Remember how we all felt about Darren fletcher when he started, look how he turned out. McTominay has been the best midfielder on the pitch of ours for most of the season!

We need an actual holding mid, to then let pogba go and play his game, with somebody high energy, like McTominay, in the mid as well!

But high energy is all he does. He can tackle, but he can't pass, can't run with the ball, doesn't break forward into the box. He offers absolutely nothing going forward. With his height he should at least win the odd header from set pieces but he doesn't even do that.

Pereira has been even more of a disappointment. He spends games hiding from the ball. With his ability, he should be able to create chances, but he very rarely does. Our entire midfield today got schooled by Declan Rice.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

I don’t think we’ll get anywhere near the amount of goals we need from our two main strikers. If the others step up, then that’s great, but there’s too much expectation on their shoulders.

ultimately it’s down to the owners/Woodward though. They knew what we needed, but decided to act like it wasn’t a priority.

Jesus Christ. Rochdale should be in front there.

Not that I’d mind, seeing as I’m from Rochdale and they’re my second team. Maybe I should push them to first, I’m sure I’d have a lot more fun than watching United these days.
