He's definetely coming. Just a matter of when. Apparently according to some Instagram stories, today Leicester players have been recording in their kits for Sky Sports when they do the formation thing.

Quite the day to not be there!

Someone on the BBC page just suggested that United and Real Madrid should do a swap deal - Bale for Sanchez.

I'm not sure what combination of drugs and hypnosis we would need to get them to agree to that!

As much as swap deals never happen, that doesn’t actually  sound a bad idea for either club. Both get rid of an albatross and both get a player who might come good. It is pretty fair.

I'm not sure Real would be daft enough to think that Sanchez might come good. Plus the fans would hate him because he played for Barcelona.

Also, United might not be keen on paying a guy 500k a week who's injured more often than he's fit. We'd have to give De Gea another raise for a start.

Fuck me, Dybala, really? They're letting one of the most skillful attacking midfielders in the world go in his peak years for Lukaku? Dybala kind of blows hot and cold and maybe not strong mentally, so completely wrong for the Van Gaal and Mourinho years when every other star signing fell apart within months. But..now, who knows. Dybala, really? We're getting Dybala? This is like when Arsenal got Ozil in terms of talent, age, status. That didn't really work out in the end, but this completely changes the season ahead. If true. Man United are getting Dybala, really?

It's seriously impressive to have Pogba and Dybala in the same team. Not a chance any pundit can crow on about Man United's first 11 being weak, though there's still the 'not enough leaders' tired angle and that the back four consists of players who've hung around for 7 years. It seems like Dybala can't flourish alongside other attacking players, they both take up the same positions. He can't play with Messi and Ronaldo's arrival hasn't worked for him.

If he arrives at 25 years of age he'd need to be prioritized and have the attack built around him. Still saying that about Pogba.

There's little chance Dybala and Sanchez can play together, but what if he remembered how to play, United should be explosive to watch. Sanchez was linked with a move to Juventus years ago when at Arsenal, they should throw him in to to land Dybala. Even pay half of Sanchez's wages for a year at Juventus. Yes...swap him along with Lukaku and pay Sanchez's wages.

Jose Mourinho is eyeing a return to management and says he is ‘full of fire’ as he looks to restore his reputation as one of the finest managers in world football. Mourinho has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in December following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford in which he faced criticism for his style of play.

“I have some time to think, to rethink, to analyse and what I feel is exactly that 'Ze' (Mourinho's nickname as a boy) is full of fire!

“My friends tell me 'enjoy your time, enjoy your July, enjoy your August, enjoy what you never had'. Honestly, I can't enjoy. I am not happy enough to enjoy,” he told Sky Sports News.

“I miss my football, I have the fire, I have a compromise with myself, with people that love me, with so many fans that I have around the world, so many people that I inspired.”

Mourinho is, however, willing to remain patient to ensure he joins the right club having turned down numerous job offers since leaving United.

He added: “The 'Mourinhistas' want me where I belong, so, for me now, it's not a question of [saying], 'okay I have this offer and I'm going to take it'. I have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity and the right opportunity is one that is at the same size and the same level that I am as a manager.”

It's most likely complete horseshit. However, if it was true, I'm not sure it would be a great idea for us. Dybala is a great player, but can only play as a very advanced number 10, behind a striker. We'd be forced to either just play two in midfield, like a 4-2-4, or pull the wide men back. We couldn't play the 4-3-3 with a quick front three that we are all assuming we want to play. The main reason Juve are willing to let him go is that he doesn't fit into the 4-3-3 they are playing now.

This is what I said about Dybala a couple of days ago.

Can you really see that signing being a success?  Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, I love to watch him play.  However we would have to throw out every plan we have in order to accommodate him.  Several of our better players would become completely redundant as we'd have to change system.  Pogba would have to play deep, you couldn't really have as attacking a wide-man as Martial or Rashford, there would be no place for Lingard.  We'd probably revert to that terrible diamond formation we finished the season playing, the one where we lost eight out of the last ten or something.  On top of this, Dybala is a weird character.  He has huge talent, but as soon as one thing goes against him he disappears from games.  He seems to have a very weak mentality.  I can't see him coping with the unique challenges of the Premier League, where he will have to cope with the pace of games and the tactical incompetence of the players around him.  At City he would probably be okay.  At a club that is more soap opera than footballing machine?  Problems.

I'll still be excited if it actually happens of course, but it has DISASTER written all over it.

Wouldn't he fit quite nicely into the 4231 we've been playing in pre season? Just behind the main striker in the role Lingard and Mata often played under Ole last season. That's pretty much his best position isn't it? He can also play RW and up front although not as effectively (according to Reddit). He was shifted out wide for Juve once Ronaldo turned up and didn't do as well as previous seasons.

He would also fit into the 442 diamond we played a few times last season as well, especially against Spurs. We had Rashford and Lukaku both upfront but they were both pulling quite wide, giving Lingard plenty of space to attack from a slightly deeper position in the center.

He seems like quite a good fit to me. Course it might not actually happen and he could always go the way most of our other South American signings do, but I'm pretty sure there is a spot pretty much made for him in our recent lineups.

We've been playing more of a 4-3-3 haven't we? Dybala is a second striker, not an attacking midfielder. With our attacking wide players we'd be basically playing 4-2-4. With our dodgy defence and Pogba one of the two in midfield. We'd concede three a game.

Either way, reports that it was "all but confirmed" seem to be somewhat wide of the mark. None of the more reliable outlets have even mentioned the possibility. It's in The Sun, but nowhere else.

I’m not wholly convinced we’ll get Maguire, Fernandes and Dybala. This is Ed, remember.

Maybe one of the above might come in, but we’ll see. Given how long and protracted our transfers have been this Summer, I doubt we’ll get three deals done before the deadline.

I doubt we’ll get any done based on how shit he’s been so far.

We’re not signing anyone else lads, and you all fucking know it.

I think you'll find this is the week! Alternatively maybe next week will be the week.

Deadline day masterclass coming up.

Yeah I think if he finds a team set up to play to his strengths, he'll recapture his Everton / Belgium form. Too good to not be playing every week, definitely.

United in a good position I think - two clubs that clearly want Lukaku, and us not neccessary thinking it's the end up the world if he stays.

I think getting Fernandes is more important, but figuring out how to fit Dybala into the team would be lovely problem to have imo. Think we could still go for a 4-3-3 if he's given license to cut in when we have the ball - we've pretty much been playing stand-ins in that position for the last few seasons anyway, and now we have Wan-Bissaka it should be less of an issue if we want to be asymmetrical in attack.

Not convinced Maguire improves us. I think I'd be happy with us staying with Smalling and Lindelof as the first choice centre-back partnership - Wan Bissaka's presence should add some stability to the back line anyway. But given how Rojo, Jones and Bailly all have major fitness issues, we probably do just need another body. £80m is a lot for squad depth though, that sort of money and I'd want someone who genuinely kicks us up to a different level. I don't expect Leicester to budge either - Maguire doesn't seem to be agitating for the move, they're in a healthy position and don't need to sell players, and they're trying to build something with Rodgers and will want stability.

I reckon if Dybala happens it will be instead of Fernandez.  I'm genuinely not sure how I feel about that.  We need some reinforcements in deeper central midfield.  Someone to replace Herrera.  McTominay has a lot of potential, but he can't replace both Herrera and Matic.  Who else do we have if we get injuries?

Oh yeah - Fred.  You forget he's still there, don't you?

If we're playing three in midfield, you end up having to play three out of Pogba, Matic, McTominay, and Fred every game.  That's not enough in that position.  Even if Dybala comes, we would still need Fernandez just to be able to rest a couple of them every so often.  If Pogba goes (and I think he will) we'd need another one as well.  How much money do we have?  We've spent nearly £70m already.  That's why I think Pogba will go - get £140m for him and you can almost afford both Fernandez and Milinkovic-Savic.  Of course, you don't get the money up-front, but then you don't pay it up-front either.  We'd still need to sign Maguire anyway.  If we get Dybala in a straight swap deal, that starts to look like a very decent transfer window.

I mean, it won't happen, of course.  That's obvious.  We'll sign no-one and sell Rojo and Pogba.  Lukaku and Sanchez will still be here at the start of next season.  Dan James will break his leg in the second game.  Phil Jones will be out the whole season with Phil Jones disease.  McTominay will play the season at centre-back, before moving to Sunderland and never being seen again.  Lingard and Rashford will post on social media.  Business as usual.

Edit - Forgot about Pereria.  We've got him too, and he's decent enough.

It comes across as yet another signing that’s more about the marquee name than fixing an issue with the squad. Your standard Woodward signing then, and we all know how that’s been working out over the last few years.

Don't get me wrong, I think he’s a great player and could work out, but only if we have all our issues sorted first. Which we absolutely haven’t. You just know that Ed will spend these last few days of the transfer window concentrating on this deal and nothing else will happen.
