The old Man Utd Thread

Mata is deadwood. Being a really, really, really nice person doesn't make up for his obvious shortcomings on the pitch.

The club have confirmed the signing of Daniel James. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

I think mata needa to do a Scholes, and drop into midfield, cos he can pass very well!

Disappointed to see we let callum Gribbin go! He looked like he could have been a player!

And James could be good,he is quick, direct, good on the ball! Really, the kinda signing we should be making!

Same here. We need young players that are hungry. We need new blood.

Word on the street is that Wan Bissaka is done. Between him and Dalot that's our right back sorted for the next 10 years.

Can't believe Young and Valencia have held down that position for 4 seasons

Good that James has finally been confirmed, but I’m sick of the gossip columns these days. I know it’s pretty much the same every year, but the stories seem even more blatantly false this time and it just makes the whole thing a joke. I quite enjoy reading about who we’re in for, but what’s the point when so much of it is total nonsense?

You need to follow the utd Reddit. They have a carefully curated tier list which ranks journalists and publications based on their accuracy over previous transfer windows.

Makes ignoring the more bullshit rumours quite easy.

Ah excellent, I’ll give it a look. Cheers.

I honestly think he’s a bad influence on the squad and I’d be happy if they got rid. His attitude is abysmal. They have to seriously get moving in the transfer market though, or else next season is going to be even worse. As difficult as that is to imagine.

By the sounds of it De Ligt, Rabiot and Bruno Fernandes all have contract offers and we should know either way on all three of them over the next few days/week.

AWB is also either done or nearly there depending on who you listen to.

Seems like we are mostly waiting on those and whether Pogba and Lukaku go before pulling the trigger on anything else. Both of those seem to depend on whether Madrid and Inter pay what we want rather than trying to get them on the cheap.

If Pogba or Lukaku go it will then start a big merry go round of transfers between clubs which can then make currently unavailable targets available.

I can understand why everyone is getting impatient, but it's got more to do with a lingering dread that Ed Woodward is going to make a pig's ear of yet another transfer window than any actual problems with the speed that we're doing business. This thread had people getting angry with the lack of signings before the Champions League final had even been played.

While I think we should probably sell Pogba and Lukaku I don't have any confidence that Ed will get anyone in.  Or anyone in who fits an overall strategy.

Hopefully this week will be a big week announcement wise

Don’t you start doubting now. You’ve been the only person I can count on for a bit of optimism so far!

It’s such a big job that needs addressing, which has been known for a long time, so to see Real go out and get whoever they want while we have only managed to get one player in so far, doesn’t fill me with the confidence that Woodward understands what he’s supposed to be doing.

Yeah, I'm not sure I really expressed myself completely clearly there. What I mean is that I'm also very worried about how the transfer window is going, but not so much because it's going slowly, as the feeling that Woodward is a fucking idiot and he's going to fuck it up regardless of how quickly he moves. I wouldn't be worrying about the lack of activity if someone else was in charge.

The problem at the club is too much focus on the commercial side, and not enough on the football side. This is typified by a banker deciding who the club signs. LVG is a mad bastard, but he has given a couple of excellent interviews where he says exactly that, and he's in a position to know. Mourinho hasn't spoken up yet, but he would surely say the same thing, considering the debacle over his attempts to sign a centre back last close season.

Exactly. Woodward combined with us moving so slowly just means we’ll miss out on anyone we want. They shouldn’t be nervously waiting to see which players are going to leave, they should have a plan where they go out and get who we need, then offload the useless fuckers/bad attitude crew afterwards. It’s a joke and the fact all the talk about getting in a DoF hasn’t materialised just compounds how useless they are.
