The old Man Utd Thread

Today has to be the day that these players show what the club means to them. Unbelievably, that champions league spot is still up for grabs, so they should be doing everything they can to try and get it.

I have little faith that will happen though and we’ll see another lazy, blasé performance. I hope I’m wrong.

For all of Ole's previous luck, now bringing out the worst in De Gea seems freaky. It's like watching Spider-Man suddenly slip from a wall and ending with him throwing his spidey suit in an alleyway trash can cos he's lost all sense of who he is. De Gea's consistency and brilliance for years has been supernatural, it doesn't feel right to kick him now. Look how sad he looked fumbling that Rudiger shot, dropped to his knees looking forlornly back across goal, palming his hands to the floor in dismay, rueful and dejected like he can't prevent these things from happening. Poor guy. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??!!

i have noticed he is keeping his beard unusually short and tidy though, so..you know, lack of beard power.

We swapped De Geas superpowers for a win against PSG.

Top four looks very, very difficult now. Even if Chelsea lose again, their goal difference is much better, so pretty much if they get another win that's the end of it. Watford at home and Leicester away aren't the easiest of games for them, but I expect they'll get the points they need. Plus we need Arsenal to drop points also (which looks very likely, but it's another thing that's completely out of our control).

We paid for De Gea's mistake (those of you saying sell him, I think that's going a bit far - but he is a liability at the moment and Romero should start the next game), and not turning up in the second half. Shame as I think we were really on top of them in the first.

What is going on with Ole’s team selections? We had a settled team in Jan/Feb, now it’s a different back line every match. Darmian comes in from the cold against City, Bailly gets a game today. It’s little wonder De Gea’s form has gone to pot with the abundance of footballing shite that sits in front of him. There’s not one defender I’d be sad to see go. Ok Shaw can stay. The rest can fuck off.

It's a plethora of different systems too, seemingly all in order to fit Rashford and Lukaku up front as a two.  A 4-4-2 diamond today.  Why?  4-3-3 with the three quickest players in the front positions gave us eight wins on the trot.  Just play that, even if it means Lukaku has to sit on the bench.  He hasn't scored since the PSG game anyway, has he?

I think the second half of your post answers the first.

If you had that bunch of useless cunts to pick your defence from, wouldn’t you keep rotating them in case you accidentally stumbled across something that worked, however unlikely?

I know we can’t realistically replace the 90% of the team that doesn’t deserve to be there in one go, so I want us to go all out for at least 1 central defender, 1 right back/winger, 1 centre mid and 1 striker.

How we’re going to get that lot in one window and no champions league next season is anyone’s guess, but they better show a willingness to put things right, starting the second the transfer window opens.

Do you guys not remember all of the injuries? We lost Lingard, Martial, Herrera, Matic and Rashford got crocked pretty much all at the same time.

Rashford, Martial and Lingard have all looked pants since. This pretty much coincided with our run of bad form.

We went from being the team who did the least amount of running in the league to a more pressing formation. That needs quite a step up in fitness and is seemingly difficult to do mid season. Hence all of the injuries and lots of formation switches.

Hopefully a good pre season and some good transfers in and out and we'll see a lot more consistency next season.

Appreciate that it isn't the same, but his team selections at Cardiff felt half random and half "I'll pick that guy today as he hasn't had a game for a while/looks sad/brought be an apple). You couldn't remotely guess who would play and what formation.

Pray he doesn't start scouting random Scandanavian players who aren't anywhere near good enough for the Prem (or Championship). Although, to be fair, he did sign decent defenders for us.

I'm hoping he feels bad for us being relagated when he was manager and plays Pogba in goal next Saturday (assuming we beat Palace on Saturday).

Sanchez starts...

How many chances has he had? If he doesn’t produce today then that HAS to be the final nail in the coffin, surely.

Happy to see Scotty back in midfield.

My guess is we're putting him in the shop window. Bit of a risk because we need three points. I know Huddersfield are rooted to the bottom of the table and their form is awful but we can't just turn up expecting a win.

@JPL Spurs losing does open up another path to 4th. Everton have been playing well of late (as we know all too well), and they will be without Son and coming off the back of a difficult away game with Ajax. So I could see them winning, possibly. My concern would be that they can't get 7th now, so they have less to play for than Spurs really. Plus we would still need Chelsea or Arsenal to mess up - the former spectacularly so.

Bit of luck that it came to Scotty... and keeper lets it under him... but that'll settle any nerves! Come on, let's try and get a hatful now, end the season on a high.

Huddersfield giving us a lot of space in dangerous areas. Sanchez is making a nuisance of himself. Going to be a long afternoon for them now.
