The old Man Utd Thread

That was a performance that will go down as one for the ages in our club’s history.

10 first team players out. Academy lads on the pitch. Fred has his best game in a United shirt. McTominay too. Surely any doubt about Ole’s tactical acumen cannot be questioned now. Every decision he made tonight has been the right one. Bailly needed hooking. And was. He was getting roasted down that side, but Dalot helped tighten things up when he came on.

Great seeing Mason get his debut and Victor had another solid showing at CB.

Hopefully my heart rate will settle down soon.

I didn't get ti see the 2nd half. As at a gig, and, as the band finished playing my fav track, which they hadn't played on the tour, I check my phone... To see pen... Then just had to wait for sky sports to update lol. Think I will be finding this game to download when I get home tomorrow!

I’m still on such a high from last night. Just had to re-watch the first goal and gawp in awe at how easily Rom shrugs off that tackle before he goes round the keeper. Neymar would’ve hit the deck in an

instant.

Reminded me of this from last week, probably my favourite Big Rom shrug off of all time:

Scott Mctominay eh?

When Mourinho brought him into the first team he seemed okay, not not exactly very good at anything in particular. I think he mostly played in the Herrera role and then also at centre back where he had an absolute nightmare for various obvious reasons.

Mou then threw him under the bus in some post match comments and then that was that. Written off by everyone as one of those youth players who just aren't good enough.

Ole kept him around the first team, I assumed because he didn't want to just crush any confidence he had left by relegating him back into the youth team setup straight away.

He then turned up on the team sheet for the first time in ages against Liverpool, pretty much only because Matic got injured. I think we all dreaded what was going to happen but he totally bossed it. Decent performances against Palace and Southampton and then last night where he was absolutely brilliant.

I know it's only been 4 games but I don't think Matic will be walking right back into the first team once he's over his injury like he would have even just a few weeks ago. If Scott can keep this level up for the rest of the season then he will make a very strong case for being our first choice DM going into next season

Yeah Scott looked so mature last night, and he was the perfect amount of aggressive. And to be fair to Fred, so was he. I’ve struggled see the point of him until last night, but was thoroughly impressed.

Of course he’s got the job. It literally can’t have gone any better. Even his one loss just made the win on aggregate even sweeter. Why aren’t they announcing it? Only reason I can see is they’re scared of jinxing it.

maybe they still have to negotiate the deal. Or... there's no point announcing it before the end of the season? If they contrived to lose every game between now and then I suppose people would change their minds.

I'm looking forward to Rashford showing how much better than Mbappe he is.

:) took a while...no but the complacency and arrogance of Psg showed, they're so used to having it easy, one of those late one on ones should have been ruthlessly converted. Before the game i thought; if Lukaku scores a hat trick and United win he'll be a United legend forever, then i spent the last 25 minutes hoping for just one chance. It seemed so inconceivable i thought i saw Rashford's penalty go over the bar. It was Kane-like, powered through the ball.

I think that was the best European night since John Terry slipped on his arse to land Man United the Champions League trophy. I love big games against top European teams and it's great we get to go again after years of nothing. Ole seized that game in a way no previous of the 3 managers seized any of their big European games. I really hate managers complaining about things out of their control like injuries and Ole was positive throughout. There's no fear there at all.

I thought Fred was good but I'd like more players to have distinguished features like long blond locks or a bushy beard or bright red hair so it makes it easier to see whos who.

Full credit to Lukaku, before this he scored 3 goals in two games with his weaker foot, showing great alertness and precision. He seems to love playing with Rashford, think he said it was a pleasure or an honour to play with him in the interview last night. Can Martial, Rashford, Lukaku play in a 3?

No point giving Ole a contract right now. He's not going anywhere anyway and no need upsetting any rhythm with contract talks.

and lets face it, he was clearly holding his arm in a position to make his body bigger to block the shot. lets not pretend otherwise. this IS psg afterall, was probably taking conduct lessons from Neymar.

Yeah. And people forget the fact that with VAR there are no could have, should have, would have. The ref saw it from multiple angles and made the call.

watched the 2nd half before, not bad at all. but lets cut to it, that hand ball...he knew exactly what he was doing, he was looking at it, decided to jump with his arm out,  it was clear his arm was in the way, and the clear give away, was his reaction, he knew he'd been caught! if it was a genuine accident he would have been speaking to the ref, but he wasnt.

although, as somebody pointed out ,he also should have been off in the first game!

anyway, arsenal on sunday then? i reckon, we may have a chance!
