The old Man Utd Thread

Wow. Even with the current run of form, there’s not been a moment or feeling like this since Sir Alex retired. Job interview complete. I think it was a penalty but not one you expect the ref to give under those circumstances even with VAR.

I think it's going to be difficult when VAR exists, to not give it when it hits the arm if it's up at all. The rules need clarifying.

What a fucking penalty. Buffon goes the right way so he has to hit it hard and high. Huge weight on his shoulders and he's carried it brilliantly.

What a fucking amazing baffling insane game that was. Played poorly, mistakes everywhere, utterly dominated by PSG's passing play, genuinely felt like we could concede four of five goals, and then... and then we win the game 3-1 thanks to some outrageous good fortune and a terrible decision by the referee. Which begs the question... has Ole sold his soul to the devil? Is he some kind of Christ figure who will go on to solve Brexit and hand over the pee-pee tape to Mueller to sink Trump? Is this some kind of Man U fan fever dream and I'm actually in a coma? It doesn't make any sense. But I like it. I really really like it.

I think that's a bit harsh to say we played poorly. I've not seen many better defensive performances than those put in by Smalling and Young tonight. We were dominated in terms of possession, but didn't give up a lot of chances. Yeah, we were definitely lucky, but also kind of brilliant.

it wasnt a terrible decision by the referee. he wasnt clear on the decision, he callede for VAR assistence, and made the right call. these refs know the rules of the game more than any of us on our armchairs. he and other refs have said its a penalty

PSG dominated the ball, but didn't actually create that many more clear chances I don't think? It was posession vs counter attack, with neither team really implementing their respective tactic that well tbh (our defence was great, bar the start, but we were probably fortunate to score three goals). Luck was involved, I'm not denying that, but it's also not like this was some freak result. Think it just comes down this - we held our nerve better than PSG.

I mean, if Ole did this with a full first team I'd still need to sit down and pinch myself a bit and maybe have a shot of whiskey to stop my heart bursting out of my chest. But to do it with Fred in midfield with two boys who look young enough to be turned away from certain roller-coasters is just full on 'I ate a bag of mushrooms and now I can choose which dimension I live in' bat shit amazing. Fuck you Charles. Ole to be the new heir to the throne.

TBF if you take the tie as a whole, I'm right there with you. First leg we were chasing shadows for much of the game, despite PSG quite obviously not giving us their best. With the subs Ole really looked like he didn't know how to guide the team through a big game. Clearly he is a quick learner, what an absolutely insane turnaround.

Smalling and Young were brilliant. So was Shaw. Defensively they are remarkably solid right now and it's a fantastic foundation. But in possession we were poor. We never looked in control. The amount of wayward passes, and outright kamikazee passes was mad - as well as making countless chances PSG were also given a hand full of chances to kill the game. But they didn't take them. OH WELL!

Yes they did. They created loads. Hit the post. Shit tonne of crosses into the box. Corners. Neat through balls. BUT WHO CARES NO TIME FOR LOSERS.

Rashford is so immense. After playing 90mins on that ankle against Liverpool I thought he'd be done for the season but look at him soar.

Love the fact we have two youth players being part of tonight as well as loads of former players in the stands. The Premiership is so mercenary these days. It's so rare to have players loyal to a club for life and really hunger for the top trophies. It's nights like tonight that will produce the next legends.
