The old Man Utd Thread

What’s the feeling amongst you guys in regards to Ole?  Is he everyone’s first choice for the job now, even if Pochettino is available?

What is the realistic level of expectation with the squad you have now, top four or can you actually compete for the title if you have a proper stable start to the season?

Based on his work so far (and the rest of the coaching team) I think it would be crazy to not sign him up. The squad is not good enough yet to challenge for the title but with a few improvements I think we’d be ready to push.

Ole is so fucking charming, and clearly has a wonderful footballing brain. I think in modern management, you are the figurehead, so a lot of it is about setting the right tone, and also maintaining your credibility among the staff and players. He is fantastic in that regard, and it doesn't really matter if a lot of the ideas and the actual coaching is coming from somewhere else in his team (so it would be important to keep Phelan, McKenna and Carrick around too), as long as it is consistent with the general ethos he is trying to promote. I think he should get an interview at least. Mourinho has gone but a lot more needed fixing at the club than just the manger, he could be the ideal guy to oversee that transition. Poch would obviously be brilliant at that too - his record is exactly that, he's built for the future and improved the sporting culture at every club he's managed. But because he has been so successful at Spurs, and is now very experienced in all the competitions we play in, he may suffer from heightened and unrealistic expectations. If we didn't start winning stuff immediately then I'm sure that, in some people's eyes at least, that wouldn't be seen as good enough. Also worth remembering that he's probably Real Madrid's top choice for their next manager too. Plus there's every chance that he's still absolutely fixated on building a legacy at Spurs, and will just use the interest from other clubs as leverage to get Levy to agree wage bumps for players etc.

Part of me worries about things going bad and Ole leaving under a cloud. But it's already gone so much better than we could've all possibly hoped. If the owners back him in the summer and we get all the important players on new contracts, I don't see him shiteing things up.

You'd rather your local rival out do your Treble (the best achievement an English club has to date), something they can hold over you forever over us having one more title? Wow, that's just mental.

It might be the only title we win for another 30 years, but you'll never beat that Quadruple.

Then when they do what you did to us over the next 20 years, you'll never be able to use that Treble as a mark of excellence over them.

Why is it mental? You clearly have no idea how the rest of the country see Liverpool fans!

I can't believe they've crocked Rashford. I spotted it as soon as it happened - it was Henderson, completely cynical and a deliberate attempt to hurt an opponent.

Fucking hell, Herrera too. That one's a hamstring.

What a shame, it buggers up our season.
