The old Man Utd Thread

Well, he changed things up last night pretty effectively. He brought Lukaku on and he immediately scored the first goal. It was a very smart substitution, because Lacelles had been using his strength against Rashford, something that wasn't going to work so well against big Rom. Lukaku was also very clever, following in like that. Their keeper had struggled to hold on to a couple of Rashford's free kicks earlier in the match, and it was crying out for someone to anticipate that and follow one in. Lukaku was sprinting in before the ball even reached the keeper.

As for top four, that looked completely gone before Ole was appointed. I don't think you can get to the end of the season, see us not in there and say, "that's not good enough." If he gets us into that position from where Mourinho left us it would be a minor miracle!

You're absolutely right that there will be tougher tests, and we'll have to see how he does in those. Obviously we can't expect to win all of them, but let's see how we compete against the top five, and PSG of course, with Ole in charge.

His biggest challenge might be convincing De Gea and Martial to stay. They don't particularly care about how much fun the football is - they want to win things, and they will need to be convinced that the club and manager share their ambition.

Incredibly smart substitution to bring on your £80m striker when you need a goal. And for Lukaku to follow in a free kick looking for a rebound as hes been coached to do since he was 8 years old. Truly two of the great thinkers of our time.

Nah but you do look a lot better tbf. Spurs are next are they? Would be great to see you take some points off them.

The Man U board were very clever to sack Mourinho when they did. The following games after the Liverpool match were easily winnable, the fact they have done it with such ease and scoring plenty of goals is down to Ole though.  I do love the fact he has such a strong Manc accent!

I'm not quite on the giving Ole the job next season bandwagon just yet, but if Mou was still in charge there is no way we would have got 12 points from those 4 games and we definitely wouldn't have scored as many goals or played anywhere near as well as we did. We would have setup defensively, played central midfielders as centre backs and hoped that a long ball to Fellaini might lead to a late winning goal. The players would then get thrown under the bus in the post match interviews.

Well we're winning!

I know! We’re practically unrecognisable from not even a month ago. I know we’re going to have a lot of sterner tests to come, but Ole and the crew have done a brilliant job turning them around. If Mourinho was to be believed, that just wouldn’t have been possible with the donkeys we’ve got.

I feel sorry for whoever gets that horrible bastard next.

Seem's Benfica had a lucky escape as he turned them down.

line up for today ...glad to see hes stuck with that front 3

Yeah me too. It's necessary to me to prioritize certain players and establish some kind of strong 11 rather than it seeming like names picked out of a hat every week.

Lukaku was always better as a sub anyway, with his direct running power against tired legs, for West Brom definitely. It's a long time since then but he's not improved much. At his still young age and with transfers inflating over the last few years it might be a similar fee if he were to be sold.
