The old Man Utd Thread

I’m not saying it’s 100% the manager’s fault, but he’s the figurehead. Any problems should go through him and he should deal with them in the best way he can. Instead of doing that though, he’s the one causing the problems. No wonder that’s causing some players to act a bit off.

As a group of individuals, they’re all going to have slightly different personalities and they’ll all react to this unrest in different ways. Some will get their heads down and continue to play in the hope it all blows over, while others will make a stand and face it head on. Mourinho shouldn’t be putting them in that position, he should be nurturing and reassuring them. Instead he’s singling them out and humiliating them in a sorry attempt to deflect the shit away from himself.

He’s acting like a child and his selfish actions in the name of his bank balance are having a devastating effect in all areas of the club. I’m not saying that getting rid of him will solve all our problems, but the sooner he’s sacked, the better.

I bet you’d see a marked improvement in all those players  who you think don’t care if they were treated with a bit more respect.

I'm pretty sure the players care.  Pogba in particular just seems like an immature and quite emotionally-lead guy, but he does seem to love football, and desperately wants to win.  I'm also certain that the manager wants to win, if he didn't he wouldn't have had the success he's had over the years.  I doubt he's deliberately trying to get sacked.

However, they're pulling in different directions, there seem to be conflicting views on what it will take for the team to improve.  Both players and managers are getting a lot wrong, and the atmosphere around the club is utterly toxic.  There are massive problems there, from the owners down.  The owners are leeches, the general manager is an investment banker who is for some reason making football decisions, the manager is creating problems left right and centre with his attitude, and a lot of the players are petulant manchildren.  It's all fucked, and the season is already a write-off as far as the league is concerned.

Damage limitation might be the aim now.  Can we hold on to our best players before Mourinho drives them out the club?  Can we find the right man or men (we now need a director of football set-up in my opinion, so that we don't have Woodward making decisions on transfers) to take over when we inevitably get shot of Mourninho?  He's lost the dressing room, and there's no way back from there, so perhaps now is already the time.  Whatever happens, don't expect the glory days to return any time soon.

Hoping I wake up to his sacking in the morning.

His 'lucrative' payoff must surely be less than the negative monetary effect he's having on the United brand? Not to mention the lost revenue if we don't qualify for CL next season. (If it's not too late to finish top four with a new manager).

At this point we may a well get rid of Jose, put Mckenna (who did wonders giving the youth teams a quick attacking identity) in charge along with Carrick for the rest of the season. Bring in a DoF once they've found the right person during the season to stabalize things for the future.

If Mckenna and Carrick can turn things around a bit and get us playing better football this season then give them a longer contract. Their familiarity with the youth squads will also see more of our young players getting chances in the first team.

Just a shame it will apparently cost 12-25 million to sack the current manager

We were utter fools to bring in Mourinho anyway. It's like marrying someone who beat up their past five partners but thinking you can be the one who changes them. He does this at literally every single club he joins and will continue to do so until he retires, it's just the person he is. But we thought he could win us a league trophy so who cares about the damage he would inevitably do in the run-up to his departure. Short term thinking at its finest, and we didn't even get the league trophy.

At this point I don't even care if the the results wouldn't improve that much with a new manager. The days of us being an unstoppable force are long dead now, we all know that. Just get his miserable toxicity away from the club before he drives players away.

How well did Fergie do to retire when he did. Preserve his legacy and respect.

Mourinho is so fucking miserable it’s painful. No one wants to play for him or even come sign for him. He’s lost a lot of respect in the last few years.

Ill admit I loved it when he signed and thought better times were coming but it’s just not worked. Time to get Poch in.

Jose is shot. Half of them aren’t playing for him. He’s lost all respect. He doesn’t seem to know the players strengths or even attempt to play to them. It’s so weird.

Who should we be looking at replacing him with though? I can’t say Zidane excites me really. I’d rather see someone in the Klopp/Pep vein. Simeone maybe? I’ve not looked into it, but we need someone progressive. Someone who can get the best out of our current players but build for the future. The exact opposite of what we currently have.

I don't think Simeone will be our target to replace Jose. I think they're quite similar and we hopefully bring in someone like Sarri. A manager who lets the players run free. You can see our players are struck with fear whenever they get the ball.

I'd like to see Jardim. I don't think Zidane and another 300 million is what we really need.

Rumours about tonight that Jose will be sacked this weekend after the Newcastle game. Broken by the same journalist who said we would be sacking Moyes and LVG just before we did.

@JPLwill be delighted!

I know it’s not ideal to sack your manager and it’ll leave us directionless until things are sorted, but I honestly don’t think Mourinho could put things right if he stayed. He doesn’t even look or act like he wants to. As far as I can see he’s the root of these problems and he’s dragging us further down with every appearance he makes. He’s either slating individual players, acting like a childish brat with the media or sending us out against the opposition with questionable tactics. There just isn’t any way back for him, so even though it will probably cause us some problems in the short term, in the long term it’s for the best.

I just hope that the board have got a proper plan in place. As you mentioned up thread I think they should draft in the youth team coaches to steady the ship until they’ve got a clear direction of how to move things forwards. We abolsutely can’t have another Mourinho situation. It has to be carefully considered and beneficial for the future of the club.
