Papers today, saying both pogba has agreed a 350thou a week deal with barca, or that he wants that to stay... Not surprising after Woodward gave that much to sanchez!?!

How do we go about getting a new chairman, as he is part of the problem, and no he's no Gill!

what ever happened to illegal approaches to clubs? is this sort of shit not outlawed? i know all clubs do it, but surely if a club says "x player isn for sale" then club Y shouldnt be fucking around unsettling x player for a move ?

To be fair we've been doing that to other clubs for years, haven't we?

I'm resigned to Pogba and Martial leaving. Mourinho tends to get shot of unsettled players rather than forcing them to stay. It might not be this window for Pogba, but this time next year he won't be at Old Trafford.  If they do go, we'll basically be down to just Rashford, Sanchez, and Mata in terms of players with any semblance of flair. Two of those never play (despite the evidence that they should be playing every week) and the other one only plays because it would be crazy to pay him £380k a week to sit on the bench.

Pogba will probably do really well at Barcelona. If I was him I'd want that move to happen too.

This is the most downbeat feeling at the start of a season I've ever known, and I've supported United for 35 years. It's probably not as bad as it seems from the outside looking in, but it really looks like a shambles at the moment. I wonder to what extent Mourinho's behaviour is unsettling the team. It could be a rough season. On the other hand, a good win against Leicester would make the whole atmosphere completely different. We've seen in the past that pre-season doesn't mean much, big signings don't necessarily fix anything, and teams can recover from losing star players.

We should hang on a few months before getting the pitchforks out the shed, I suppose.

I don't think Mourinho will be at Old Trafford next season, so if Pogba does stay this season then I'd hope he's encouraged to stay by the new manager.

Not that i think Mourinho enjoyed football before but he's been more down since his father died last year.

With Wenger I'd look at the incoming season and think Arsenal will not finish above any team who have a currently better manager. I think all the top teams have better managers, just whether the table at the end shows that as the quality of football does.

i wonder if he just REALLY fucking personally hates the press? you see him with smiles on his face in training and when not plonked in front of the cameras but turns into a right miserable cunt when he has to press conference

I had no idea his father died. That's a shame

I'd hate doing press conferences as a manager as well. Must be so tedious. Some managers really embrace it though, Bielsa will spend hours taking every question and giving detailed answers, i think Villas Boas and Rodgers have given lengthy football explanations in the past. I'm sure i remember someone on football weekly describe some of Rodgers conferences as like being given an education. Yet football reports never contain any of this insight.

Mourinho is supposed to be really different in private. Will we ever see it? I guess there's the odd interview.

He can't hate every journalist surely. He's always been so spiky and defensive.

This sounds so cold and sarcastic.  ..i can't tell.. He died 27th June 2017. I can't remember how miserable Mourinho was in his first season in comparison to how miserable he's become. For someone whose dream it was to manage Man United and apparently weeped when he heard Moyes got the job, you wouldn't know it.

WHO IS THIS MAN WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN

2011. okay.

Any thoughts on today? Is our transfer window done or is there more to come?

I can see us getting either Alderweilddbdfh or Maguire at the last minute and maybe even a second player as a panic buy.

Doesn't look like anyone really wants Rojo and rumours of Martial seem to have cooled down a bit since he's got back to training but I guess you never know!

Alternatively absolutely nothing will happen and we'll be starting the season with Darmian and Shaw as our full backs with Smalling and Lindelof in the middle.

"Everton are reportedly hoping to sign Marcos Rojo from Manchester United for £22m before the transfer window closes, according to The Telegraph." lets wait and see eh! lol

would at least open up space in the first team for timmy and axel!...unless they get loaned out

They've already left on loan.

Not signing anyone else is not the end of the world. You can see why we didn't get anyone in. Macguire wasn't the finished article type of player Mourinho wanted to lead the defence, Boateng has a poor injury record and looked absolutely awful at the World Cup. We'd have been paying a lot of wages for someone who could have been injured or nowhere near good enough. Alderweireld also has a poor injury record, and we'd have held to ransom by Spurs. He's the guy I would have gone for personally, but perhaps there are other factors. Hopefully it's not just that he wasn't glamorous enough for Woodward. Mina isn't particularly good, and paying massive agent fees for him would have been stupid. Godin was never going to happen - apparently he was using us to get a better contract.

The squad is slightly stronger than last year. We've lost Carrick and Blind, neither of whome did anything last year, and gained Fred who appears to be a very good player, and Diogo Dalot, who provides cover at full back, although I know absolutely nothing about him. We also seem to have a revitalised Luke Shaw, and Sanchez, who will surely be a lot better this season, plus Pereira, who looks a class act in midfield and could be like a new signing if he's given a chance.

The defence is a problem, of course. Smalling, Jones, Rojo, and Lindelof have shown no signs that they are good enough, and Bailly is always injured. We haven't got a lot of cover at full back either, which makes the decision to loan out Forsu-Mensa a strange one. The crap defence puts pressure on the rest of the team to play too defensively, which leads to the kind of over-cautious performances we keep seeing.

It's a big season for several players. Sanchez has to step up. Rashford needs to be a first team regular and show what he can do. Pogba needs to be a lot better than he was a lot of the time last season - he needs to be allowed to play, and he needs to improve his attitude as well. Shaw needs to get himself into the team and do enough to stay there. He's got the quality, he needs to show it. And above all, Mourinho needs to either get his shit together or fuck off before he does any more damage.  For fucks sake for all the talk of strengthening on the pitch, he's the weak link. We could have done with strengthening there arguably more than at centre back. One problem this window is the struggle between him and Woodward over signings. He wants Mourinho players - strong, efficient, unimaginative killer robots to grind our way up the league. Woodward wants marketable galacticos. I would imagine that Mourinho is frustrated with other people at the club making football decisions. I doubt he ever wanted Macguire, for example. In a way Woodward is undermining the football side of things by the way he's doing things. On the other hand you feel that an ideal Mourinho window would have involved Martial and Pogba leaving, and several 29-year-old Mourinho players coming in to replace them. He can't manage flair players. He wants to stifle them, sacrifice that flair on the alter of better, higher-percentage decisions on the pitch. He might be right - he has a far more successful football brain than any of us.

God only knows what's going to happen tonight. We'll probably win 5-0 after all this angst.  :D
