The old Man Utd Thread

This game is pretty much going as well as it could've gone. The pathetic first half was necessary to give the second maximum banter value. We've scored a goal that was probably (marginally) offside and City should've had a penalty. Meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but petty old me is very much enjoying this.

Liverpool fans must be loving this.

Torn between thinking an away goal is there for the taking and worried about what the reaction might be.

Amazing turnaround by your lot. Attack City and they’re not quite the team every pundit faps over.

this!!! this is the case with every pep team! the teams that beat his are the ones that actually attack him in stead of trying to defend against it!

That is indeed true! He really put the performance in, really it was 3 assists. But it seemed to come from letting pogba off the leash by actually having the 3 man mid we have been saying should have played all season!

Quote

"[Alexis Sanchez] always tells me when you pass me the ball, 'Just make the run, I see you.'" he told Thierry Henry on Sky Sports.

"I give the credit to Michael Carrick, because after the game every game he shows me the video and says to make those runs. He's someone who's helped me a lot, every time after training he says: 'Come, look at this run, you can kill because nobody can stop you.'

"It's hard to make this run in a two, because you have to stay and you have to control. When we have three players, I know Matic will stay behind, and you have more freedom to go in front."

Did not expect this.....

See what happens when we fucking go for it.

Same happened at Old Trafford too. We sat back and conceded. Once we were behind we went on the offensive and Rashford scored. Then we sat back again...

What do people want the first 11 to look like? What should be the absolutes every week?

                                        de gea
valencia/darmian  bailly   smalling/jones  shaw/young
                                  matic/blind
                   herrera                         pogba
                                       mata/sanchez
     rashford/lukaku                         martial/lingard

guide: bold is starter. bold orange is absolutes - players you really want to start every week that the team is built around. Unless they're injured or in really bad form. Pochettino doesn't take out Alli does he? Lets him get the game time and experience.

formation is probably poo. Valencia and Shaw are wingers so provide width, and i think Mata should play every game, but not out wide. Pogba has two mids behind him.

Formation and starters are all a bit poo if I'm honest :P.

I mean, I like Shaw but there's just no way he should be starting every week. Not to mention he's probably out the door come the end of the season.

You've also seemingly dropped our top goalscorer too, what gives?

I think the system you saw in the second half against Man City is what I'd like to see. A system we've played at various times this season but never with the attacking players playing that far forward. They often play more like traditional wingers and not wide forwards if that makes sense. Sanchez had a stinker in the first half, move 15/20 yards further forward and gets a bit of freedom and is involved in 3 goals. Same with Pogba & Herrera. Not so much a tactical thing but a mindset. Shackles were off and it made a hell of a difference.

Thats what I'd like to see in terms of system/tactically. As for starters I think De Gea, Pogba and Lukaku are the ones for I'd start every week, the rest can fight it out. Defence and midfield will need additions too come the end of the season.

Should be an interesting one.
